I totally get people not wanting to go 100% BUT how long are you gunna put it off for? Honestly, who’s to say everything will be back normal next year? I’ve said it before but this time last year we were all on about summer 2021 and look whats happened.

One thing that’s changed about me personally since all this kicked off is i’ve become very much of the mindset of f*** it lets do it (ok maybe not ANYthing) but life's too short. Let’s go to the Island:cool:

Returned home on Monday after 16 days in Ibiza (we kept extending!) and I honestly believe it was one of our favourite trips to the island - think it was trip 18!

Despite the clubs not being open, there is still a magical feeling and amazing vibe on the island. Also plenty of legal, free parties if you do a bit of research.

We saw Fatboy Slim, Roisin Murphy, Theo Kottis, Jon Sa Trinxa (for probably his last Ibiza set this summer), Alfredo plus lots of other excellent, Ibiza-based DJs - S/A/M, DJ Dribbler, Andy Wilson, Jo Mils, The Brothers Grim… Ibiza has so many excellent local DJs - often better than the big names.

We managed to get into all the restaurants we wanted to. At worst, we booked the day before - not weeks before. Even places like Bambuddha (which we ended up not going to) had on the day availability. Same with beaches. The only negative was the car hire issues & taxis but we were on the fence about hiring a car anyway (considering it’s August and busy) and the taxi situation improved.

I found people to be really friendly and positive this year. We chatted to more people than before (sober chats!) and it was nice to see an older crowd on the island. Less posers too!

It felt like the Ibiza of old at times and I’m very glad we went.

Deffo the attitude if you can. For me, I will still take my family if I can make reasonable allowances for any issues. So, for example, we went away at the start of the school holidays, knowing that if we got stuck, I could work from abroad and the kids wouldn't miss any school.

If I was young, without kids, I'd just go

nice one clara. and sorry we didn't get to see each other! :(

Also worth adding that there are lots of good last minute ‘bargains’ for hotels and villas this summer. Everywhere we stayed (Es Vive, Pikes, Wiki Woo - yes, really!) we got a suite / junior suite / deluxe sea view room for a lot less than the usual price. Which made the trip (my belated 40th) really special.

We only booked for Pikes as we were able to get availability the month before, which is pretty rare for August. It wasn’t cheap, but we got a fantastic Junior Suite (Room 24 party pad!) for cheaper than usual for 4 nights. Think rooms at Pikes for August are usually all booked up months in advance.

Out of curiosity, we looked at villas for late August / September and there are big reductions, likely due to COVID cancellations. Some amazing villas with a pool for less than half price.

So, if you’re considering going to Ibiza this summer and can do so - just go!

I think i said it earlier in this thread, but I can't see how I can travel abroad while there's still a realistic (albeit) small threat of getting stuck in another country for 10 days. That would not go down well with my employer, as it stands. I'm sure it must be in the back of other people's minds too! That may well also stop me next year. :( Otherwise I can't wait to return.

yeah nice review Clara. Feeling the positive energy.

did you get the sense that there is any one venue/bar everyone is gravitating to (esp where things are more laidback) or is it just luck?

Ordinarily I would have a focal point on each trip but this year I'm not too sure how to play it. I will obviously be getting in touch with a few people on/off the forum but not holding my hopes up musicwise

Thanks! Pikes felt really special and loved seeing all the DJs there, plus Sa Trinxa, the W Hotel (especially Alfredo & friends), S/A/M’s weekly residency at Chiringuito in Es Cavallet.

I’ve also never seen Ibiza Town so buzzy (& busy with everyone eating & drinking at once, due to the 1am curfew).

Paradise Lost, La Bodega, Simbiosis were our favourites there.

I've said it before, but currently ibiza town and the port feels like in the olden days (20 years ago or more). one of the very few nice 'consequences' of the pandemic.

Definitely agree. The only negative was that the restaurants just within Dalt Vila (La Torreta, La Oliva, etc) were VERY busy with little social distancing with people walking past.

Any specific bar recommendations for Ibiza Town this year? Apart from a few dinners never spent an evening in the bars around there

What day is the weekly residency at El Chiringuito? Thinking of adding it to the itinerary

tirapalla or the new montesol rooftop bar for rooftop vibes
any of the bars around plaza de parque for good value drinks
base bar or 1235 for fancy cocktails with view to the port and yachts (they are on the frontline)
paradise lost for good music & drinks

I’m of the opposite mindset. I’ve worked all the way through this pandemic infact the only time i was off was over xmas and i caught covid:lol: so worrying about work is the last thing on my mind! Obvs the fact i’ve already had it and im double jabbed helps too of course!

S/A/M plays there every Sunday. Food looks amazing but we just sat on the beach to hear the music as it was full and we didn’t have a reservation. The sea water was so warm and clear though.

Came back from a cheeky August week, here are a few impressions (restaurant reviews coming, in the other thread):

- Island was PACKED! especially the old town at night and as to be expected cala bassa/cala comte. cala bassa was a really terrible experience,
and normally I wouldn't go there in August, but I clearly overestimated the pandemic effect on tourism. I never heard so few Brits though, it was
striking. The island was full of Italians, some Spanish and even more French than I ever heard before.

- People are booking restaurant tables and beach clubs like mad. If you want to check out bigger, fancier places like Carnicero, La Maca, Buddha ..
you'll have no chance unless booking weeks before your actual holiday. I would never do that, just not how I imagine holidays should be, so I
sticked to great smaller restaurants (with calling ahead). Also: Go for a very late lunch/early dinner. We just ate snacks on the beach and then
went into beach restaurants like Sa Trinxa, Jockey Club or Chiringay after the big lunch-rush was over. No problem finding a nice table next to the sea at6 pm. And unless you're Italian or Spanish you won't be used to eating at 10pm anyways. Beach clubs there was just no chance in hell, only at the "first come first serve" ones. Many said they're booked until mid September.

- As beautiful as the island is, I found the vibe and atmosphere so different, without the influence of electronic music. Without billboards, promo teams, outdoor events .. it almost was an island just like Mallorca or a Canary island. There was just something missing. Not least the freaks, the outkasts, the weirdos, the ravers - the guys that make Ibiza Ibiza. It was just a loooot of Italian families and middle aged couples.

- With all the stories around about a shortage of staff and bad service: Without exception, at every place and restaurant I went I had impeccable service: quick, friendly, nice, no waiting - perfect!

- I mentioned the rental car scam somewhere else on the forum. Prices are a scandal, paid 70 euros a day for a panda instead of the usual 12-15 euros. I get the sentiment of locals that the government should restrict the number of cars brought to the island, this is all well to say when you have your own car. But if the number of rental cars stays as low as this summer, it's the normal earners and small families who are priced out of being mobile on the island. The rich who are most polluting and obstructing the island with their SUVs and Hummers won't care and still be there.

anyways, had a fantastic time and the shock upon returning home and to autumn is even worse than usual. Also as someone contantly suffering from FOMO when in Ibiza, this year was really relaxing as there simply wasn't anywhere to go from midnigt :) Don't want it to stay like that of course.
Yeah, pretty much.

We were there 20 July, due to come back 28 July - our flight got cancelled, so we stayed until 31 July.

Flights there and back were both packed.

You have to book for any decent / high end restaurant (although managed to wing Amante which was surprising).

Did two nights in Formentera at the start - it was nice.

Both islands were stupidly busy, and car rental prices were stupidly expensive - and yes, I have been in July / August numerous times. I guess there are more concentrations of people on the beaches, and earlier, due to no clubs... and more people eating.

This is offset by some banging deals on accommodation which were a steal for July / August - looking at September, they are even cheaper.

Minimal English people - both good and bad.

The island is definitely not the same, and it's not as good. It could be anywhere in the Med in August, with some places (e.g. Mykonos) having far more of a vibe.

We were there in July last year, we had a villa - at least it's a bit busier than it was then, but there were less restrictions on some things back when we went (e.g. household mixing at night, etc).

We are thinking of going back for a long weekend in September, but not sure it's worth it, even at the cheap accommodation prices - that would be the main reason we would do it, to try stay somewhere really spectacular that we couldn't afford normally.

The problem is, this is the kind of scene that many on the island have been craving for years - a different kind of tourism.

Anybody wanting to go there for music or a party should really try somewhere else, in my opinion.

For clarity - we had a good time, but there was far less of a shine to it than even last year; the demographic has certainly changed, with fewer characters, tons of families, and more drinking than anything else. I am aware that this is ironic, as we are a family; but I can have the kind of holiday we had anywhere in the Med, specifically Greece. The magic of Ibiza is the music, and that heartbeat is not there.

Anybody that is being put off by the admin of the tests / etc - that bit was seamless / straightforward and barely intruded on our holiday in any way.

Also curious to know this espec in San an. As for the bay is there still plenty of bars open round there?
