Flights by day:

* Friday 376
* Saturday 396
* Sunday 382
* Today 335

A different matter is how full those flights were, as gutsy mentioned.

I had no idea that was the peak season daily flight schedule. Incredible given the size of the island and airport.

Totally overcrowded and overexploited

same as lots of other destinations in the mediterranean in the month of august. no news there. august is august.

what has changed is that after the non-season last year, a lot of people (me very much included) love to see the island packed for a few weeks. usually the locals have been seeing august as a pain to get through, but I've heard far less complaints this year!

Absolutely neccessary for the Island economics. Think the after season will be good , too. Rest of hope for a little clubbing in October.

My Mum flew out the previous Sunday from Edinburgh with Ryanair. There were about 18 people on her flight.

Came back from a cheeky August week, here are a few impressions (restaurant reviews coming, in the other thread):

- Island was PACKED! especially the old town at night and as to be expected cala bassa/cala comte. cala bassa was a really terrible experience,
and normally I wouldn't go there in August, but I clearly overestimated the pandemic effect on tourism. I never heard so few Brits though, it was
striking. The island was full of Italians, some Spanish and even more French than I ever heard before.

- People are booking restaurant tables and beach clubs like mad. If you want to check out bigger, fancier places like Carnicero, La Maca, Buddha ..
you'll have no chance unless booking weeks before your actual holiday. I would never do that, just not how I imagine holidays should be, so I
sticked to great smaller restaurants (with calling ahead). Also: Go for a very late lunch/early dinner. We just ate snacks on the beach and then
went into beach restaurants like Sa Trinxa, Jockey Club or Chiringay after the big lunch-rush was over. No problem finding a nice table next to the sea at6 pm. And unless you're Italian or Spanish you won't be used to eating at 10pm anyways. Beach clubs there was just no chance in hell, only at the "first come first serve" ones. Many said they're booked until mid September.

- As beautiful as the island is, I found the vibe and atmosphere so different, without the influence of electronic music. Without billboards, promo teams, outdoor events .. it almost was an island just like Mallorca or a Canary island. There was just something missing. Not least the freaks, the outkasts, the weirdos, the ravers - the guys that make Ibiza Ibiza. It was just a loooot of Italian families and middle aged couples.

- With all the stories around about a shortage of staff and bad service: Without exception, at every place and restaurant I went I had impeccable service: quick, friendly, nice, no waiting - perfect!

- I mentioned the rental car scam somewhere else on the forum. Prices are a scandal, paid 70 euros a day for a panda instead of the usual 12-15 euros. I get the sentiment of locals that the government should restrict the number of cars brought to the island, this is all well to say when you have your own car. But if the number of rental cars stays as low as this summer, it's the normal earners and small families who are priced out of being mobile on the island. The rich who are most polluting and obstructing the island with their SUVs and Hummers won't care and still be there.

anyways, had a fantastic time and the shock upon returning home and to autumn is even worse than usual. Also as someone contantly suffering from FOMO when in Ibiza, this year was really relaxing as there simply wasn't anywhere to go from midnigt :) Don't want it to stay like that of course.

how many times have you been to ibiza in peak august before?

have you ever gotten a rental car for the price you said for that period (mid-august)? I very much doubt it.

apart from that, very useful feedback. I personally don't perceive it much different than a nornal august with the exception of the nightlife, less brits and extreme situation re restaurants ‚ beach clubs (which again is a result of no nightlife)

but the level of busy and the level of prices is standard august IMO

General vibe is relaxed. You can dance to your heart's content in the pool! You could probably get away with a spot of isolated dancing by your own bed/table, but it's likely to be shut down if you get too energised/too many of you/goes on too long. Just get in the pool is the solution

My tips are that the food is surprisingly good (both the ceviche and the goats cheese salad were really good). The cocktails can appear poor value for money, because they're so loaded with ice, though, arguably that was needed on a day like yesterday, but better to get a bottle with your minimum spend in any case.

If it's not usually your thing and you identify as "older", then I would suggest to avoid Tuesdays and Fridays and look at Thursdays (IF it stays as WILDCHILD! - so far confirmed until the end of August only) or Saturdays

Any ideas on how O Beach operate? They only have a few of the cheaper beds left next week (Sunset Corner) for the date I am looking at, but quite a lot of availability of the more expensive beds. Reckon I could risk walking up when I'm out there next week and seeing if they'll sort something as there is only 2 of us? Or should I just book what they have and see if they'll move us if there is still spare beds

some interesting points. still really hard to know what to book and what to take a chance on. Holiday roulette. Would I even have to book a table at say Anita's?

as for the car, we managed to get a small car at autos mari 340€ for the week - not sure how that compares with the rest of you?

I believe they have reduced the price of some of their beds any way...We have a poolside arranged and paid 550... Years back it was 800. Same location.

You will find if they want to sell more beds on the day you will be approached and offered one at a discount - this happened to me in May though but considering the lack of numbers still you may get lucky

I usually come in September, yes. But I've been in August as well and I agree it was similar like then. I just hadn't anticipated it that packed this season, in what is still a pandemic. Maybe just surprised.
The comparison with rental car prices was with the September price, yes. But it is also different than before pandemic Augusts, there was also an article about rip-off prices in the diaro a week ago.

Ibiza 2021 from a dj's point of view...

Glad the season is going well all things considered, but I simply can't go without the clubs, the ravers, weirdos and general nite life nonsense.

it's very obviously the missing bit that usually gives ibiza its special spark. you get a little bit here and there this year (compared to last year where you really had absolutely nothing of that), but it'll only fully come back once the clubs may reopen.
