The same could be said for just about every trance DJ from back in the day. I think the fairly rapid decline of trance meant that they either had to reinvent themselves or become irrelevant. Many went the EDM route and decided to exchange their credibility for the big bucks.
Fair point, but what came first the decline or the top talent jumping ship?

I’ve followed A&B for years and up to the first acoustic album things were ok and the dj sets were more than passable. But last 3/4 years they’ve been absolutely awful. Had free tickets to their o2 arena show a while back and it was actually sad to see them perform Oceanlab and other classics as two minute pop songs; dreadful stuff.

I still hold a distant dream that a trance night will one day come back to Amnesia with Tiesto, Armin and the rest rolling back the years and djing properly.

The decline started first. But it declined from a massive peak. That peak was in 1999 musically imo and in terms of numbers and interest upto about 2004. Djs had been earning a lot of money and saw this happening and jumped to trouse, techno and edm in order to try and remain relevant after becoming accustomed to their earnings. It definitely accelerated the decline of the trance scene. It wasn’t three or four years ago, we are talking over a decade. Add in the smoking bans, the general decline in clubbing numbers, increasing popularity in festivals and tastes changing and the scene has never recovered. It’s a shame. It will never return as a scene as it was but the sound is always popping up disguised as different genres, the djs just won’t admit it.

If Ushuaia closing is 5th October (same as Amnesia I think) and no sense of them doing Odyssey style with Hi ... What does that mean for Hi closing ? Could it be 12th October?

In the case of A&B, I can believe they had a genuine change of heart -- that around the time their weekly show changed from "Trance Around the World" to "Above & Beyond Group Therapy" it was a conscious decision that they wanted to do something different and to make a different style of music. But yeah, even though I don't think their newer work is rubbish, I'm with you that it doesn't pull me in like their earlier work did.

However, just maybe something like your dream could come true. For sure I don't hold out any hope for Tiësto making trance again. However, even though Armin doesn't make much real trance either, his A State of Trance (ASOT) show and events are still very successful and showcase some great trance artists.... and his show hits episode 1000 next year. If for some reason he doesn't renew his contract at Hï, I could see him bringing back ASOT Ibiza at another venue -- maybe even Amnesia. With a lineup including other legends like Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz, Bryan Kearney, etc., it could be a season of great trance shows like the good old days of Cream.

in an interview appeared on DDI two months ago, rosanno lucidi from i productions (made in italy/flower power/vibra) talked about their future plans...

rosanno lucidi on today's DDI: "we're working on a festival for the month of october here on the island"

It’s the last night of this trip for us... so I think something must be being planned to mark the occasion...
