Ibiza 2022 impressions

Got back from Ibiza this morning and all I can say is that there is a real buzz and optimism for this season. Looks like a lot of work is being done in the airport to increase capacity, businesses in San Antonio are doing refurbs, new restaurants/bars are being built and the locals (with businesses) are looking forward to a long awaited proper season. Really excited to be back there this year!

Some quick impressions from the weekend:

  • It should have been obvious but it still took me by surprise how "focused" the target group was going to Ibiza on opening weekend as opposed to during summer, starting on the plain. I never had such a focused group of party people on a flight from Stuttgart, it's usually very mixed with families etc. This time, only clubbers. 1 hour into the flight, they said they were out of alcohol to sell. (though whether that was actually the case or more of a protective measure due to the people in the row behind us singing "Willst Du mit mir schlafen?" towards the flight attendants, I'm not sure)
  • Absolutely gorgious weather the whole weekend! Sunny with just the right amount of warmth (at least for my taste...). No need for Air-Con, could just open the balcony for just the right temperature and still glorious basking in the sun at 4 in the afternoon at Ushuaia.
  • Atmosphere starting Friday afternoon already felt electric. Obviously, my own anticipation played a big part in that, but it's still a huge difference walking along the beach during the day, knowing a big club night is ahead (and feeling that from others as well). It was something that was definitely missing the last couple of years.
  • Walking from Dalt Vila around the harbour towards Pacha on Friday night felt like a pilgrimage! Walked there shortly past midnight but already walked with a LOT of people. The line in front of Pacha was already pretty big, as well.
  • It really never gets old to witness and be part of the couple of hours after waking up after a big night out, wishing you were dead, and after a couple of beers, the world is great place again and your ready to rock. Both feeling it yourself and witnessing it with your friends. Of course, the "wishing you werde dead" part unfortunately comes back the next day....
So much for now, will write a review later on, once the dust (and my hangover) have settled.

sooo....

after the big opening bang last weekend, we've had a few quiet days and two days of bad weather too, but right in time for this weekend the sun came back.

more and more places are opening up and the season is getting underway. as you can see, the amount of parties isn't massive right now, but it's actually the right amount of parties for the amount of people on the island. pacha was busy thu/fri/sat and ants opening yesterday was also very busy from what I can tell.

I guess for the next two or three weeks we will really see a few quiet midweek days (tues-thurs) with fri-mon being busier, both talking about numbers as well as amount of parties. I'm skipping dc10 tomorrow because of work but I am 100% certain it'll be much more comfortable compared to the opening last week.

also in the tourist resorts (mainly speaking about pdb and san an) you can see that every day more places are opening up. it's a process which I think will continue until almost the end of may, by then I expect everything will be back open.

it's just really, really good to see ibiza back in action. it's gonna be a really long summer since we've started so early, but we're all very excited and positive for a very good summer season 2022.

Arrived yesterday 😁
First time staying in the bay. Iv only ever walked round here twice and that was around 7 years ago maybe..
There was a lot more bars and shops open than I thought there would be and obviously the bars were busy with the football on last night, wonder how it will be tonight in comparison.

Pics from the flight in, beach in front of The Beach Star hotel and we had cocktails at Kumharas for sunset which has been on my to do list for 10 years and have never got round to it lol

Sun was shining hot yesterday and it was fine at night out in a dress, wee bit cooler late at night but not unbearable in a dress.

Brilliant first day/night. Hopefully these pics upload alright since it said they were too big lol

*Edit - they seem to have uploaded upside down or on their side but they’ll do 😂

Those Cocktails look great 👍

Following on from the first day post ^^

2nd day got up at sunrise, walked from the bay round to San Antonio along the coastline. I don’t ever remember the sea being so clear.. maybe it’s just when I have always been later into the season it’s usually got the odd stormy day which kicks up a lot of the sand or whatever in the sea?..

But the sea was clear as clear could be! And it wasn’t too cold for a swim 😁 weather stayed sunny and warm for the 4 days ☀️

Stopped at Es Pueto for a drink, I had a mojito which was lovely.

Stopped at the highlander next for two mojitos which again were good.

We didn’t do much that night just stayed at the hotel (Vibra Riviera) and played cards at the pool bar.

3rd day got up early to go to the new CrossFit gym that’s opened in San Antonio and it was great 💪 managed to get a tea/coffee from the Melbourne street stand at the bottom of the west end at 7am as the hotel breakfast didn’t start till 8am.

That night we had Mint lounge booked and dinner was great as always. We saw dolphins before the sunset!! 🤩
Walked back down the west end to let the parents see it in full swing which was an experience for them haha

Last day walked along the coastline from the hotel to Port Des Torrent.. had never been there before and that beach is stunning 👌 went to Ibiza town that night ☺️

Be back September!! 😁

Love that walk (with drink stops obvs) from the bay to San an

20.5c
This is the site I use
Hoping next month it reaches 24c so this softie can dive in...
Made it to Ibiza today. Here at Cala San Vicente it's nowhere near 20.5C. Feels more like 18..19C. But it's perfect for a hot day like today.

I’ll give you that it’s not like in the middle of August but it’s perfect for a nice dip, once in you get used to it pretty quick, besides cold water it’s very good for your health.

A lot depends on the location, a sheltered shallow bay (eg Talamanca, Figuretas) can warm up quite considerably by mid-afternoon whereas those exposed beaches (like Salinas or San An) can't. Seaweed has it's uses...can trap the sun's rays and warm up the water around it!

I've even surprised myself by swimming in the shallow bays at Figuretas in early June.

The water at Cala San Vicente warmed up a tiny bit on the afternoon yesterday. At Salinas today, the water feels like +22C. Seems there are a little more algae than usual at Salinas.
