ibiza 2019 observations

observation time

ended up going to paradise opening on wednesday. very busy but bearable - seen DC10 far worse. musically not my cuppa tea overall I have to say, with the exception of ilario alicante who I thought was decent.

yesterday night I went out with some friends that are visiting. first we went to rhadoo at underground. while it was cool musically, it was one of those nights where the venue never got busy enough and thus lacked atmosphere. happens sometimes at underground as we've discussed on here before.

after that we ended up going to music on - one of the friends had never been to pacha before. club was very busy last night, but still bearable - unlike the previous week where the club was at capacity when the martinez brothers were marco's guests. you all know I never was the biggest music on fan, but I have to say I actually like the pacha version more than the amnesia one. I'd never been a big fan of the music on crowd back in amnesia, but last night at pacha I have to say I quite enjoyed it. steve lawler played a decent set and marco definitely plays much funkier as he used to.

I'd love to see rodriguez jr at heart tonight and/or âme live and marcus worgull over at pacha but I think I need a night off!

Nice one @stivi good info ?

Thought Marco C had changed his music up a bit, from what I’ve seen and heard from people.

Saw a clip of him playing that Roberto Surace tune ‘Joys’ crowd were clearly loving it :D

I can’t imagine him playing that one at Amnesia a few year ago ?

had my night off on friday as I said so more observations today

ended up going to black coffee last night - pretty spontaneous night out, got a text from a friend visiting saying he wants to go since he's not been to the venue since it changed from space into hï.

got there just before 1am - theatre was busy already then and was very busy all night, but on a bearable level. showed him and his mates around the club so they got to see all the rooms and outside terraces and obviously also the infamous wild corner aka disco toilet.

caught quite a big chunk of nastia's set before black coffee and it was a big style clash - nastia going full fast paced techno (quite liked it I have to say) and then total break and black coffee playing his usual stuff at a much lower BPM. not a dealbreaker but still thought it was weird.

club room never was full when we went to check and I also never thought it had a proper atmosphere in there last night.

the best was - as so often - the toilets. paul reynolds is the king and best choice for that room and he had it heaving. that was fun. the rest...didn't really convince me tbh.

another night off tonight - giving sven at BM as well as adriatique later at pacha a swerve. then circoloco tomorrow, really liking the line up for that.

In pdb now. On a 36 hour solo visit for the first time due to work and an extended stay. Plane all on time which was nice. Hotel (Sirenis) good. Not particularly busy in the resort but as busy as it was in mid August last year. A lot of Italians, Americans and English here. V quiet around the sankeys area so the dealers aren’t having a great time. Just got back to the room for a shower before Solomun and Adriatique. Hopefully that will hit the progressive spot. Anyway, weather is overcast but mild enough and little wind. it’s nice to finally be somewhere it isn’t raining.

regarding current numbers - I feel the island is really busy right now and if I'm honest quite a bit busier than I'd expected. we'll see how july and august pan out, but june seems to be a really good month so far. I can't prove this just yet with numbers really, just my perception and what I hear around me.

Solomun playing house but big new tunes. Quite proggy so that hit the spot for me. Last 45 minutes of adriatique was superb after meandering along before that. V busy in pacha tonight which bodes well for the season. V mixed in terms of nationality. I lost an hour somewhere so catching up.

Beautiful day in Ibiza. Sun is shining, v warm but nice cooling wind. Solomun + 1 was excellent last night when it got going around 2.15. Not seeing the volume of traffic in pdb that others have reported and it’s quietish in town but that is to b expected at this time of year. Time to hop on the boat to Ibiza town before dc10 and a dose of Carl Craig before an earlyish flight home in the morning.

Carl Craig smashed circoloco. The room was half full for his first half hour and rammed for the rest. He really is a real don. He was all over the place in terms of style but that is obviously part of his appeal. Resplendent in an white Adidas track top, sunnies and fedora, he took us from techno to jazz to techno to house and back to techno again before finishing with music I can’t describe. Perel followed and she was very much in the spacey, melancholic techno vibe, not dissimilar to adriatique and tou, only more floaty. If I had a gripe about circoloco it is that the programming is as all over the place as a Carl Craig set, but not in a good way. And the music in the terrace was bloody awful. Would have been nice to hang in for tou and Peggy but I’ve got a plane to catch and work to do. All I’m all it’s been a great 38 hours. Still not met a Dutchman here and the traffic is flowing freely. Mrs LBS and i will return August after much belly aching about last years experience.

This I will watch.. probably the only dj I would still travel to see as I have many times before and I don't even like Techno, but he has something different.. I said before, give Garnier and Cox or anyone else the same box of records and I'd pick to see Garnier Everytime..

I seen him on Saturday was amazing!
This is a snippet of his first Irish gig at Sir Henry's in Cork June 93.. was a regular there and we didn't Know what to expect as we never heard anything from him before.. minds we're blown that night. Fish go deep recorded the whole thing a 90min and 60min tape was on sale at Fish records and this is the only bit I can find..
This 11mins will give you more goose bumps than any 90mins set you will hear all season in ibiza...?
