I had to get this off my chest - my holiday sucked

however even without our world famous discos i think there's a feeling and atmosphere (like a vibe man) that can't be found anywhere else - certainly not in the mediterranean even though many people say that without the clubs ibiza wopuld be just another med resort. i don't think that's true.....there's something intangible about the place.
practically speaking you don't have to avoid many places to find what per niente is looking for - quiet beaches, polite people, lovely restaurants and country retreats - they're here in abundance and you don't have to look far to find them.

well said there, theres something magical about the place and u just cant put your finger on it....u can feel it in the air...call me mad or whatever but many people feel the same....

You have made a few fair points, but I can't help but think your kind of having an arguement with yourself. :?

If you don't like it so much don't go, it's simple. 8)

well said again..theres just no pleasin some people, dont like it then dont go

At last,

Someone willing to say what they feel - I did the same about 2 or 3 years ago - my gripe was of a similar vibe, prices, arrogant people, bad bar staff etc. However since then I have been back and I have just decided to get used to it!

...however I still see the island as my spiritual home and love it dearly, I just accepted the good with the bad.

agreed...i also had my share of problems but i too just accepted it and just carried on enjoyin regardless.....things only become problems if u let them become problems

Haven't read this whole thread but get the general gist.

Ibiza is what you make it, of course it's going to change over the years, everything evolves. I've noticed lots of changes over the 10 years I've been going to Ibiza (some good some not so good) but you either embrace the changes or turn into one of those whinging moaners going on about 'It wasn't as good back in the day' And when you're saying that maybe it's you that's changed more than Ibiza has changed ;)

There's lots of things I wish were still as how they were in Ibiza but then again there's been lots of new and exciting changes over the years but if you don't like them then no-one is forcing you there.

hit the nail on the head!!!!!:)

so many young people say that. if my father liked the same music as me i'd be extremely worried that one of us was doing something very wrong. likewise if he dressed the same as me or went to the same bars.
it's a generational thing - house music is for young middle class white people (i generalise morbyd) - not 50 somethings. i wouldn't dream of mixing with anyone under 40 these days - someone on this forum asked only today 'what's the quickest cheapest way to get really drunk?' do i want to meet this guy? err no.
different generations, different habits, pastimes and music.

i know this is an old post but i missed it first time round...
i just wanted to know why is it that those of us under 40 are all deemed to not be worthy of your time? why is it that people of different ages cant be friends and socialise together- i have to say that i have quite a few friends who are old enough to be my parents but they are still my mates and we have alot that we can enjoy together.
i would also like to point out that not all of us are looking for the cheapest and fastest ways to get drunk- i understand it may seem that way but i dont want to spend my time with people like that either.
As for music it is possible for us all to listen to music from various genres-one look at my cd collection proves that.

nicci you mentioned the word worthy, not me. i simply have nothing in common with people so much younger than me.

i really think that we all need to challenge the way we think about people of different ages. we arent so different you know.

I have asked the question many times on this forum and never recieved a sensible reply - why oh why do so many people pay a fortune to listen to some twat play records/tapes/cd's whatever. I can understand paying to listen to a "group"/"band" etc live(yet to hear one dead) but recorded music - you must all need your bumps felt........................
As for Ibiza and her people, going back for the thirty something time and visit beaches, bars and restaurants new and old and in the majority recieve good friendly service with good value food and booze - clubs? never been, never want to...............

which remains me of a text i saw the other day.....

DJs and Electronic Music Beware!!!

We might as well warn you.....

Since Las Dalias opened up our MySpace, we have noted a great many DJs & Producers of House, Electro, Lounge, Chillout, etc approaching us to be added as friends...

Now, for those who don't know Las Dalias or Ibiza, we might as well fill in the blank spaces.... Despite Ibiza having been promoted internationally as "Clubland", Las Dalias has always been the "rebel-child" that has transgressed against the mainstream of the island.... For over 50 years, our note of distinction has been to program live music, at times within the boundaries of the fashion of the moment..... But over the past 20 years, the contents of our live shows have had a strong Rock content despite the constant plugging of House Music...

At this moment, as overdriven guitars take the mainstage of the entertainment world, we feel like lucky lottery winners that have been playing the same number for years until Lady Luck has finally smiled in their direction. The time has come and we are ready!

Our main cause in life these days, is to aid the revolution and help overthrow the grip that the commerce of repetitive dance music and inocuous electronic chillout have had on the isle of Ibiza for the last 20 years. Loops and samples manipulated by PC mavens are no match in our books for a blaring axe in the hands of an angry teenager or the even sustain of a mahogany flat-top in the hands of a poet. The figure of the "Super-DJ" was created by the industry as an economical maneouvre to cut the expense of the full-fledged machinary of a live act. The notion of "club culture" has been a convenient invention, created to disguise 3-day binges of gurning & sweating fueled by chemicals, very beneficial for the clubs, quite scary for the man on the street... The island's reputation has been tremendously tarnished by the result of this trade, and we are willing to retaliate and do everything in our power to resurrect the legend that Ibiza was before House Music.
This year will be especially extravagant and we, in Las Dalias, will be involved in many events that will once more place Ibiza in the realm of "creative haven" that it was known for.

All DJs & Electronic producers are welcome to befriend us, but be warned.... We do not have any intention of going in the direction of the big commercial clubs, despite being a venue in Ibiza. Our crusade is to substitute Electronic Lounge & Chillout for Acoustic music and Dance for ROCK!!! There are no jobs going for those who are looking for an opportunity to play between their gigs at the Industrial Dance Clubs, nor those who wish us to check their "MySpace curriculum" to see if they can break into the Ibizan Dance scene that is-Thank God!-a dinosaur on the way to extinction ....a handful of DJs already fill the spaces between our live shows, yet they are tuned in with the organic vibe that we are well know for....

We do not wish to offend any sensitivities with this monologue....But to be as naive and yet honest as the cutting edge of a distorted guitar riff....If you can live with that, then...PLEASE BE OUR FRIEND!!

Because he's not just "playing records".

Electronic/dance music doesn't follow the standard convention that "live" music (or even pop music for that matter) follows. DJ's don't play everyones favorite songs (well, sometimes they do) and everyone sings along.

One aspect of seeing bigger name DJ's is simply the amount of access a DJ has to new music. Usually, the bigger name the DJ, the more new music he'll introduce me to. I go to see DJ's play to hear the latest and greatest tracks. Dance music on the whole is a fairly disposable form of music, so when you see a DJ perform, you're most likely hearing music that you've never heard before (if the DJ is doing his job  )

Also, since dance music follows a specific formula (I can explain the formula if you like as well), it's really repetitive played on it's own (unmixed). This is where the DJ comes in. The creative way in which each song is blended into the next is an integral part of dance music. I can almost guarantee that most dance music fans DO NOT listen to unmixed tracks (notice I said tracks, and not SONGS, very rarely are "songs" played in clubs). A lot of the times, the sum of two songs can be more than the sum of their two parts separately. If you'd like specific examples, I'll be happy to show you (I'm not sure you'd understand, but I can try).

Basically, you have to really LIKE dance music to understand it. If you don't like it, you'll never understand. PM me if you'd like to discuss further =)

thanks kingpin. your explanation reminds me of that track

hc-andersen, the king's new clothes.

How curious - rockers criticising others for drug use and conveniently omitting rock's well documented chemical heritage.

Re: why people pay to listen to "some twat" play pre-recorded music, it's because the parties are great and people who go typically have a really good time.

Is that sensible enough an answer?

Thank you Mick whilst searching for my words I scrolled down and saw you said everything I wanted to say and probably alot more succinctly!!!!!!!!!!

i too think space (we love in particualr) is crap now - the old terrace/space set-up was by far better. more intimate and easier to know where u were when hammered - terrace = outside, space = inside. this yr they've dropped the outside stage b**locks but still have the indoor terrace. Music at we love i found too loud - not being old-ish (im 26-getting there) but it was distorted . The expansion of space is a clear indication of selling out. I dont see why people want to buy merchandise with the club names on em cos all i see is extortion where the club logo is.

I also sense it has become more like miami - a pretentious arsey entity as opposed to a happy go lucky one. This was compounded this year when i encountered over 10 americans!!! ive been 4 times (01,03,06,07) and not once has this happened! not that i have anything against yanks, just that its an indication of its commercialism.

Ibiza is still great - think if i was 20 going for the first time i would have had a much better time than this yr,. Think the more u go, the more u become de-sensitised to it. Also, i find the police a bit oppressive now - its great that there doing something about dealing but its still a bit like 'big brother is watching you'. And it kinda spoils the party when you have a cop walking around or a car outside waiting to do a full cavity search (not that ive had the pleasure of such shenanigans :)

Ibiza still rocks and think will always do in one form or the other.

Word.

Re: commercialism, Ibiza and other leisure experiences are governed by the same forces of economics. People pay what they think it's worth. Space Ibiza is shiny and feels expensive.

Re: "oppressive" policing, I agree. Altho every big gig I went to in June was full. Fellow ravers, I admire your determination!

:D:D

Hey guys, heres a question - where could i go to experience a place thats like ibiza in the ninties ? ive never been to thailand or bali and have heard these places are great.
