I had to get this off my chest - my holiday sucked

Hey guys, heres a question - where could i go to experience a place thats like ibiza in the ninties ? ive never been to thailand or bali and have heard these places are great.
I went to Bali and Thailand in '98, and Ibiza in '99. Vibe wise I liked them all, but Ibiza was the most pleasant (IMO) and most expensive (everybody's O).

Compared to more recent times I'd say the music and sound systems are better now. It's marginally safer mostly due to the investment in roads and increased traffic enforcement. In terms of crowd there is a higher percentage of wealthy people who tend to be less practiced at partying but have better quality drugs.

My fave year so far is 2000. Maybe we could start a Millennial Night Fever revival - I know grego'd be up for this!

how ironic (cue buckley with alanis lyrics!) that this morning on my 'pod' i was listening to an essential mix that i'd not heard before from 2000 and thinking, sh!t the music was so much better then, i wish i could be a spangly eyed 18 year old again without a care in the world.

hmmm... 2-3 days ago on bora bora beach several cops were walking by the shore line attaching 'policia locale' blue tape along this bollards! WTF? do they want to seach people before entering the water or something?

Maybe because of the oil spill. I heard it was heading that way.

ok so I just got back from Ibiza, to start off Im an American and we dont really head there to often. Considering we dont hear about Ibiza much unless your in the "scene" plus we have South America " cancun, Cabo, South Padre, Cazumel") blah blah, anyways. I came for a break from Iraq.

I have a mixed emotion about the place. Its not really what I expected in a lot of ways. There where a lot of stuck up people there that had a chip on there shoulder and I cant fugure out why. I mean not to brag but I am a private contractor in Iraq and do make 6 figures a year. This is the first time I have been able to afford to go and was kinda a test dummy for my friends back in Texas and Iraq.

No dont get me wrong the music was great. I highly enjoyed all the electro. I just got into electro really big shortly before I left. I met some great people, scratch that. Some AMAZING people that I look to be lifetime friends. Expensive!!! hell yea, I didnt mind but some of the groups I chilled with didnt have the kind of cash flow I did and couldnt do all that I was doing and so I spotted them so they could have a good time. I was averaging 500 a night with them. I didnt have a problem but I did put a limit on my ATM cards so by the end I was having to chill out a lil.

Like I said I met some amazing people, but I also met some of the rudest inconsiderate picks Ive ever met. I had people screaming baby killer and hated me because 1. Im an American 2. because I work in Iraq. I really didnt expect that due to the fact the British army guys I work with told me Ibiza was full of laid back people.

I came here to relax and ended up having to stay at other hotels with cool people and having a few nights ruined. I didnt come for a fight, I do that everyday here. I recomend going to PINK PANTHERS!!!! that place is great the workers, owner Sue, everyone I met there was great. It seems like everyone walks around like they are somebody special, or like theyve done ****. Im used to Cancun where you walk around get hammered and everyone is getting along and meeting people from everywhere.

I didnt expect people to go into a club you pay 50 Euro for and stand there and try to look cool. I proubly looked like totall ass after a week and a half and still went into the club and danced my ass of and talked to everyone, tried to make the **** sticks cop out a smile. I mean the west end to me is pretty rad. Like the highlander. But what the **** is the fighting about??? Who comes to Ibiza to street fight. I had a guy knock my food out of my hand and scream **** USA in my face because I had it painted on me. Sure he was a lil bitch and I could have stomped his ass into the ground but once he realized that he tried to get all his boys and start ****. I steped up and they backed down.

BUT WHY!!!! why the ****. I invite all of you to come to Dallas Texas write where your from all over you and someone will buy you a drink for visiting, not try to beat your ass. I know this because we have people from overseas come all the time and we like them to enjoy there stay not put them in the hospital and **** there vacation up. I know not all of you are like that and by means I met more good then bad, but having to watch my back on vacation does suck balls. I would have to say I will be going next year with a big group of texans and some of the people I met this year and a big group from Iraq. Im really hopeing it goes smother.

I didnt tell my friends about the bad **** that happened to me just because I want them to meet people like I met. The scotish and welsh really made my trip and a group pf people from England.

Overall I did some great things and really enjoyed it. **** way better than Iraq hahah yea, lots of sand, no ****ing beach. Also I thought the food rocked, prices where high, but **** it.

Its vacation people, dont let the lil things ruin it. Personally I had some crazy **** happen and still left with a smile.

1. How did people know you were American (im assuming you weren't actually talking to these people therefore they wouldn't have heard your accent)

2. How did they know what you did for a living?

I made friends with lots of people in the hotel and just through conversation of where we worked and that I was from Texas. I actually did have conversations with these people before hand or tried to anyways, they kinda blew me off like I wasnt good enoght to talk to them. Most people in the Hotel called me Tex or Texas and they lived under me, so people would yell at me from down below.

Plus for some reason my hotel was like high school and everyone had lil rumors and gossiped about everyone. Over all great trip, had a few people not like me and we have our share of dicks in the states.

The Island and the quality people I met made it worth it. I dont know why these people had something agianst Americans, I sure dont have anything agianst the British people. Infact, Im going to England in November to stay with people I met while there. I think I did scream USA off my balcony when other people would scream there countrys.

People thought it was funny cause people would scream there country or cities name and other poeple from there around the hotel would be like YEEEAAAAAA!! Then I would be like USAAAA!!!! and nobody yelled back, I was the only American out of like 1000 rooms, it was fun. I left with a smile. It takes a lot to bring me down after working in Iraq for all this time.

I simply cannot understand people that go on holiday and fight. I'd like to blame it on alcohol but that's too easy. Deep down, there's something wrong with ruining other people's enjoyment and I guess they have to address that personally. I've worked all year for my holiday, I hope I don't run into the same type of people you did Toldtrueguy.

In August, this is my 7th time on the Island, and last year was the only time I'd seen a fight...and amazingly it was the dance floor in Amnesia.

Have to say this

Whilst I think it deplorable that you were set upon by some British thugs, I do have to wonder why it is a necessity for people (of several nationalities) to constantly broadcast loudly where they originate from.
Standing on your balcony shouting out USA!...USA! or E-N-G-E-R-L-A-N-D often in the early hours after returning from a bar or club, is just showboating, it is a habit too often to be be seen from Brits or Americans all over the world, and also sometimes by Germans and occasionaly to be heard from the odd Italian.

Funny how you never seem to hear Dutch, Swiss, Danish, Swedes doing the same thing....

We have heard the odious strains of USA!...USA! several times in Ibiza, in Mexico, and even on the Greek Islands. There is nothing wrong with being proud of your country, but for gods sake....you are needlessly attracting attention to yourselves....the same goes for the beer belly and union jack shorts brigade of gobby Brits, who do the self same thing singing football songs in the West End after a boozy night out.

I wonder if Americans would be so quick to shout the same things whilst enjoying the Pyramids in Egypt...or while in a market in Morrocco or Tunisia?

I would hazard a guess that they would not do so in such a brash way...

This post is not anti American, as I said the attack on you was deplorable, but people can often make themselves a target for the idiots of the world just by over broadcasting themselves.

hahahaha I guess I kind of see what you mean in a very small way, its Ibiza, its not Eygpt, or somewhere like that. I never yelled off my balcony after coming home from a night of partying, for one I was never there at night. People where yelling to try to find people from there home town. Or at least in Cancun, cabo and places like that, it what we did.

I dont believe there is anything wrong with yelling your countrys name and being pridefull at all. I guess its just different overseas than South America and a few other party places us Americans go. I know in Brasil, we hung a big American flag off our balcony and our friends next to us hung a big Texas flag. I was nice because people knew who we where and it sparked convesration. People would come to our room just to bull****.

I really dont understand the whole soccer (football) team chanting thing. It seems like that started alot of fights. But I never thought tellign everyone I was from America was making myself a target. I was trying to get people to talk to me, maybe theyve never met an American, I know I had never met a Welsh person, and by me yelling U.S.A.! off my balcony got them yelling back and I proubly met some of the coolest people I have ever met from it.

Most people thought it was funny because I was the only American, it was more of a joke. I knew nobody was going to respond to me Yelling Texas! or America! It was actually a joke to the Scotish that I hung out with, that did some Scotish chant everymorning, and was joined by other scotish. Anyways, I guess if thats how Ibiza is, Ill try not to be so pridefull next time I travel to Europe.

I wish it wasnt like that but hell what are you going to do? I know in Cancun 2 years ago when the huge group of English came a put what Im guessing was Soccer team flags and british flags up, nobody in the hotel gave them ****. In fact we partied with them almost everynight cause they had no idea where to go. I think its pretty crazy when you go somewhere thats supposed to such a happy peacefull place and you get harrased for yelling your countries name so people know where your from and repping your country.

Americas is turning out to not be such a bad place after all hahaha Personally I think having a huge amount of pride in your country is a nice thing and I pomise that if you ever wanna rep your country I wont **** with you, in fact Ill buy you a beer, I like to met people that are from around the world. I guess its the overly prideful ass whole American in me haha

haha it was a pretty crazy hotel actually, I wanted to be at a hotel like that, Club Paraiso, really not a bad joint. I didnt come to Ibiza to get away from noise and have a nice relaxing vacation. I come to let lose and go crazy, Im personally a loud and extremly outgoing person. Im load to the point of being annoying but I am just a very "put myself out there kinda person" I met some great people at my hotel, and in Ibiza, like sue said, I went there to meet life long friends, and I believe I did. So some people go there to bitch and fight, thats not my thing. I paid damn good money to go there, if me and the rest of the people wanna scream at each other and across the pool and party hard all night, then holy **** I WILL!! It says in all the reviews for the hotel, you will not get any sleep here, it is extremly load, Dj comes on at 11AM everymorning and it is like he is in your room its so loud. Personally thats what I came for, not to be harrased for being an American, not to have people look down on me because I was yelling USA, while everyone else, and yes EVERY COUNTRY DID IT. I have to say 95% of the people in my hotel where amazing, really quality people and I still talk to a load of them, in fact Im going to visit a lot of the in Nov. in England and Scotland. I went to go crazy and I accomplished that. I spent over 5000 USD while there, I had all the right.
