I had to get this off my chest - my holiday sucked

Can't tell you how much i loved this thread, thank you to everyone for an entertaining hour or so, i laughed out loud several times! I'm very happy to find so many people with such a passion for the white isle. I'm unashamed of my absolute love and devotion for Ibiza, I admit there are some bad aspects, but for me the highs far outweigh the lows! Per niente, did you go back in '07 or have you given up on the place?

I have to agree with the original point of this message however I am not going to Ibiza because its some sort of chilled out, magical party place. I'm going to get pissed, a tan and laid and have a good time.
If anyone wants an alternative to Ibiza without all the bull**** VIP and stupid prices. The try Buzios in Brasil, its the nearest to the Ibiza vibe i've ever seen, and you can go out and have a great time with 20 quid. All the big clubs are there and you can even go surfing.

I'm oilfield trash working for Halliburton and a "limey", so I have hung around and worked with Texans rednecks and coonasses for the past 20 years. I can fully understand all the trouble you had with the drunks willing to fight you. In the states and espicialy in Texas then that sort of behavoir tends to get you shot quite quickly. Shame its not the same over here really.
Brits are spoonfed in the newspapers all about how evil the US is and how we have been dragged into an unjust war, where in the states its more of a sin to question your position on Iraq and the military. So no doubt after a few beers these boys would be willing to make their stand.
I'm going to Ibiza on July the 13th with a party of 16 hope to see you over there I get you a corona!

You could do both as:

Buzios is full season when Ibiza is off season

HAHAHAHA!!! I understand where you're coming from, but I'm still planning on going. I was orginally going to go to Bali (killer cheap outdoor parties), but airfar is too expensive.

I think any place can be fun depending what kind of outlook you have unless you're dealing with complete twats. In that case..like the last time I was in Ibiza the Chicago "I'm not taking sh*& from anyone" chica in me" pushed some c^&4" that purpously pushed me and gave me dirty look. Through this experience I met some kickass people from Scotland and tore up the island for the duration of my vacation. Once again...it depends on your outlook. :)

my advice is simple: anytime I have ever traveled somewhere new and exciting and have had a magical experience unlike any other, i hesitate to visit again. Visiting the same place will detract from the beauty of the memory and will substitute mediocrity for the unimaginable.

I made that mistake by visiting St. John, USVI too many years in a row; i learned my lesson the hard way and now I am off to Ibiza for the first time (after several seasons of experiencing new places). Im not too sure of what to expect on Ibiza, however, whatever adventures come my way, it will be new, exciting, stimluating, and novel.

Bottom line: travel, and dont rot away on the same god damn island every year.

peace

Can anyone please explain why you are prepared to pay 40 quid to watch a bloke playing records - who needs him, a computer can do that bit and instead of him living in luxury, you can all get in for a fiver.

I actually went to a club in Montreal yrs ago where there was no dj it was pre recorded sets all on computer. The club was sick with a huge discoball thing in the middle coming out of the floor.Noone really cared if there was a dj or not but everyone still had fun partying and enjoying the music. That will never change.I love electronic music!

I think the reason for DJs getting paid so much is for the effort they put into the scene. If one is dedicated to what they do and is really good at it and there is a market for it---)then so be it.Theres nothing wrong with that.Think about all the money they spent buying records/cds Dj equipment and moving on to production equipment. We are talking thousands of dollars to invest in something that may make them earn well NOTHING.Not to mention all the time they put into learning the different technics of playing or making the music.Theres more to DJing then just hitting play. You have to look at the whole picture.I say bless the ones who earned there way to the top getting payed for the time and effort they put into it.Just like any style of music!

At a risk of stirring up a storm in a tea cup.....

Certain nationalities spoiled it a little for me last year.... one word ARROGANCE - you can probably guess the rest....

I do get your points - Especially if it's a group downward spiral moan about everything situation...

I've been to Ibiza with friends that were having a good time initially, then one member of the group had a bad "situation" this resulted in a domino effect as one by one the rest of the group was dragged down by the first unhappy bunny....

It's tough to break, but you have to go back to basics, remind yourself of the things you love about the island and make the the most of the time you are there - ignore the irritations and enjoy yourself... it is a holiday (to quote buckley) FFS.....

The last paragraph is the key in your post, you can implement the same thought in many life scenarios...... you could wake up in the morning feeling well and happy, ready to go into town for a bite to eat, driving down you get stuck in a traffic jam, helloooo perma rage...... day ruined, possibly......

Its still the same day, your still going to do the same thing you were looking forward to, its just how you deal with whats in front of you!

As DJNC said, chill out, go a stroll, look at other having a good time and shift the dark cloud.

I would rather pay 40 quid any day to see a dj play rather than 5 quid to hear pre-recorded backing tracks.

I'm very much from the old school of going to a club and seeing someone play off 2 decks and a mixer. I don't like the way things are going with all this digital deejaying and layers and layers of effects. You have to ask yourself- how much is being done by the dj and how much the computer?

I don't think there is much interaction between the dj and the crowd these days and am fed up with seeing my fave dj's stuck behind a laptop all night.

People like Sasha and Richie Hawtin have denounced the physical form of deejaying as of late and moved toward software like Serrato, Final Scratch, Ableton etc.

I think it's abit of a cop out and am glad people like Ricardo Villalobos and Mr C still embrace the vinyl and keep the old style alive!

I definitely agree with that m8! it was a wrench for me to move away from vinyl to cd's but vinyl was just far too expensive and hard to get hold of the tunes too! Think I'm a dinosaur I don't like Dj's using laptops....I'm highly sceptical of how much they're doing too!

Agree Jez,

CD has many advantages to vinyl without taking away the traditional way of mixing etc, hence why I bought 2 cdj800's as an addition to my 1210's! I know a few DJ mates who use laptops which even matches the beat for you.......and I suppose there's nothing wrong with that concept but for me it takes the fun out of it.....I won't use a laptop until I have to - just look at DJ's like the Martinez Brother's, they'd be fooked without CDj's to play with!

long live old school mixing

Glad to see some people share my views!

I can remember when i first started going to clubs and all they had was 2 turntables and a 2 channel. Effects units were unheard of and when the CD decks started to get used I remember me and my mates going 'Wow this is the future!'

What you saw was what you heard. There was no way they could fake it because the technology wasn't availabe to them at the time. You heard them mix warts and all- every crackle and bump. Now it's just lazy and you do wonder how much is being done by the pc.

Now youv'e got these little hand held pacemaker things that lets you dj with mp3s on a remote control type thing. It's a bit silly. Prob best suited for parties.

I do wonder what the future holds for djing....

I use a laptop to hold all my tunes and use control vinyl to mix with. This eliminates the boring task of burning cd's and takes up way less space. The software allows you to very easilly loop bits of a tune giving a little more creativity on top of the traditional way of mixing. You can take it as far as you like adding midi controllers n stuff but just cos you see a laptop out it doesnt mean the dj is doing anything overly complicated or the laptop is doing the majority of the work. Producers playing out edited versions of their own tunes live can be a whole different ball game tho

Serato??? I use Serato and I love it. Only trouble is many places don't have turntables anymore so I end up either taking mines ( which is just plain annoying) or using CDJs which I just don't like.

Traktor Scratch. Had a scary moment playing out other day and the screen crashed but tunes kept playing , quickly mixed in a vinyl and restarted! Do they have turntables at Orange Corner Daniel?

Despite all of the faults per niente states I think Ibiza has its merits but you just need to know tjhe place. But I'll agree the clubs are getting very very lazy.

Either go out of season (bliss), or look into what you like and work at finding it. If you are jaded with standard clubs as many are now there's often a host of alternatives from rock bands to jazz and salsa, yet with easy to get to beaches without crowds, inland restaurants and tapas bars that aren't expensive.

If you like the chi chi atmosphere (elephant, blue marlin, azuli beach parties, etc) you pay for it. But eat at Yemanji its cheaper and I think nicer.

If you dont you can dodge all of it>

Thats what I think is good about ibiza you can do more or less what you want when you want and its never far away. If you go to sardinia or greece sicily or corsica mallorca menorca they are all nice places but a good vibe is hard to find let alone much open after 1 am. Have you been to the carribean its shut at 11pm - american time you see, they all eat at 7pm sharp and back hoem to watch telly!!! that is not culture.

Try barcelona.
