Flights to Ibiza

I don't think any airline makes any money operating Ibiza....Very seasonal with a lot of competition and do the math (180 seats assuming it is full) and you realise most of these flights/planes are getting about 15k round trip. Then remove the air passenger duty from that.... I can tell you that the aircraft costs about 15k to operate there and back. Hardly any checked in luggage either

I would say be careful as what this then creates is an emphasis on capturing passengers at the boarding gate with slightly too big a bag and then charging you to check it in to create ancillary revenue

My brother bag was caught on the return ... Wouldn't fit the baggage gauge due to the plastic feet/wheels stopping it....He was stung €60!!! to check the bag in at the gate.
Fair play to them. Its more a mini suitcase than hand luggage. Anything that you cant bung under your seat isn't hand luggage IMO.

A mini suitcase is hand luggage or also known as 'Carry on'. There is a reason why people like to take hand luggage on board as they like to keep valuable items close to their persons and avoid the stupidly long wait at the other end.

What I was highlighting is that they are very strict trying to get that 60euro to generate ancillary revenue due to the fact the flight makes no money on seat sales..... So Alcohol and charging bags at the gate is where the profit comes from and so a word of warning

Interestingly though that on the flip side what happens on a full flight and with everyone taking hand luggage to avoid the silly baggage fee's and or waiting for 1hr 25mins the other end to collect your bag means everyone pretty much takes the bag on board. What happens is the people getting on last have no room to put their bag in a over head locker. The bag gets tagged for free and put in the hold.

So my brother got charged but if he had got on last then it would have been put in the hold for free.

A wicked web they weave

You have to play the game with Ryanair, it does what it says on the tin.

Those with genuine "hand luggage" will be able to take it on board. If you have a larger suitcase hand luggage then you run the risk of it going in the hold. Its just the way it is, if there isn't the space in the OL's then.....

They have to draw the line on size of case as well for safety reasons.

I have a tatty old leather bag that I have used for putting clothes in etc for short trips. More hassle than they are worth these "hand luggage" with wheels

you only need some t shirts, a spare pair of Clares and a few pairs of Alans

Interesting that Ryanair make £11.40 profit per passenger across all their routes.

Can't believe some of those prices for travelling from mainland UK in August. £28?! Crazy.

Depends what you're going out to do and how much of home/access to work you can leave behind. Camera and gopro kit, laptop, mobile, ecig kit, essential clothes for if your case gets delayed ... some airlines say max 5kg carry-on. Mine's never less than about 10 with all that which can't go in the hold !

Suitcase full of diving stuff and seeing as going to wind up paying may as well shove in maps, proper towel, spare rucksack for walks or bike and fill it up with clothes in case you wind up going somewhere especially "nice" (which never happens in my case :lol::lol:). Throw in some sci-mx and a shaker for emergencies and on a very short trip some snacks etc. too saves wasting time shopping. There's 20kg without even trying   BUT - you can hit the ground running every time for pretty much anything. So sod it I always pay to check a bag in  .. and feel completely self-sufficient from the arrivals hall (if it shows up !)

ive just paid £52 return from Manchester for the amnesia closing party weekend, very late friday -> Monday morning with Ryan air 13th-16th october

carry on I normally take a gym bag so its not a fixed shape and can squeeze into the spaces in the cabin :)

Anyone who doesn't know you thinks you're joking!!!!

Mrs Diamond just landed. Said monarch flight from Manchester was half full.

Thomson flight from Bristol on Monday was Rammo, I got the last seat by phoning the airline on the day of travel as it was sold out online (Birmingham was chock-full no chance) and I just can't handle near 3 hour drives to and from London or Manchester for a 2 night trip.

Wall-to-wall families with children, no doubt mostly headed to AI I guess. We need more regional flights and fewer from London and Manchester. BA is flying from at least 4 London airports with 4 flights a day on some days from LCY. Having to beg for a jump seat at the back of a package holiday flight to go from anywhere close is a bit crazy. Ryanair was nearly £300 one way from Bristol but drive 3 1/2 hours to Leeds and was £30. Fook that !
