Erick Morillo

Out of interest will it still go to court to ascertain whether the victim gets the justice they believe they are due and should she gain any of his personal wealth as damages/compensation?

I dont think they can pursue criminal charges against a dead person. She can pursue financial damages against any remaining value in his estate.

I'd draw a line under the thread....

Obviously a split of opinions and like anything, you could be here all week...

Great Dj and Producer to some.

An unsavoury character who's a threat to women for others...

Unfortunately we'll probably never know the whole story now........

For us at least on a public forum. Maybe time to move on...

Or we could be just against rapists? So no-on reads here and thinks it's ok?

I don't think one single person on here is on the side of any rapist.

Some people are alluding to fact he hasn't been tried and convicted. As a consequence should presumed innocent until proven guilty.

My own opinion for what it's worth, is the circumstances as a whole certainly seem to lean towards him not having(for him) a desired outcome from the court case. Hence myself at no point posting anything that says R.I.P

Some french contact, living in Miami and very close to Erick Morillo , the same bounded to Luciano, wrote he was there that night and Erick never rape anyone,a rivality between 2 djs?
information or intox?

Take a deep breath and enjoy this funeral playlist ⚰

I hope Erick Morillo will see the light beyond? there are some words called Redemption/forgiveness

Genuine question, how do the "innocent until proven guilty" crew feel about Jimmy Saville?

I don't think it's the "art" per se people are upset about, more the public outpouring of grief and how that has taken precedence over victims of sexual assault, especially given the court hearing was days away. If you want to carry on enjoying his music etc, couldn't you continue to do that in silence? Kind of feels inappropriate at best to elevate his artistic endeavours above the serious allegations at this exact moment

Let's also bear in mind that the "art" in this case - performing DJ sets - helped facilitate his alleged crimes

Would anybody here praise the artistry of Harvey Weinstein when he pops his clogs? Again, I acknowledge he was found guilty by trial

I agree with the overall point, generally.

However, I do think that Weinstein is in different class, as a producer of film (not really "his" art). One of my favorite 90s films "Scream" was produced by him, but I dont think he lent any artistry to the final film. His behavior may have actually hindered it by limiting the type of actresses that would be cast to those willing to service him.

Difficult one but I can separate the ‘artist’ and the person. My peak times for Erick DJing and Subliminal (I even was part of a booking for the brand for a night in the U.K.) were 10-15 years ago. At the time he was one of the biggest names in house music and no one was talking about this stuff. I look back on this time with fond memories.

What has come out in the last 9 months is of course terrible but doesn’t change what I felt 10 years ago if that makes sense.
I can feel good about the good times I enjoyed but sad / angry how he turned out with what we know now.

In all honesty last chance I had to see him was at Tobacco Dock on NYD A few years back and I didn’t even catch him, which says it all

Early to mid 2000s, the word was don't leave any women on their own with him. 'Bit of a ladies man' was code for a handsy pain in the arse.

At least one big DJ showing tears today was the same when I picked him from the airport in Ibiza for a gig. I was gone to the bar for 30 seconds before he propositioned my then girlfriend.

There's a cultural problem that needs addressing, which is why there isn't widespread condemnation in the industry.

Sure no doubt you can find stories about most DJs at some point, but certainly i wasn't aware and don’t remember any talk about it on Dontstayin or whatever at the time!

No, compared the volume of stories about him, from people in the industry, no other DJ comes close. I've pulled back elsewhere because someone I vaguely know and like said his Mum was likely reading, but the general issue needs addressing. Getting battered on drugs and going wherever with anyone, is not consent. And the huge gap between reported rapes and convictions shows that we need to shift the view on probability. Either most women who report getting raped are lying, or most rapists are getting away with it. Which seems more plausible to you?

In that case - the fact the ‘industry’ knew and did little about it for 20 years - and he was still being booked by promoters at the highest level, club owners etc and seemingly his management weren’t managing him properly then everyone involved in the industry is culpable.
