Including my friend in space last year. Spiked with GHB and raped. By men!!

Aren't rapists usually men?

They are usually men, but my friend was a man too!!

I didnt want to tell people about it, but seeing as no one knows me or him then i wanted to warn you all of the very real dangers.

It happened on a Sunday (2nd night!), he came round on the beach near bora bora and went straight to jet who contacted the police. After hours of hospital tests and interviews we were taken back to space by the police who tried to gain access to the club. The management refused, even though my friend spotted one of them while we were outside! I wasnt happy to say the least. The police gave up and drove off. Very very corrupt.

I dont want to put a downer on the place but beware there is a seedy underbelly of corruption. The attitude of the guy at Space was terrible. He was just like, "hey this is a party, no one wants police!" So he refused to let the police arrest a rapist?? I went off it at him and he just smiled in my face for 10 minutes. :?:

Following this my friend went home on the next flight (£600) refusing for any of us to go too. He came home to HIV tests and a 3 month wait, police interviews (they were frustrated and angry with the lack of help from the local police in Ibiza. Gay rape? Not on our island!), pyschiatric treatment and insurance claims. I came home a couple of days later. He spoke to me briefly but wouldn't talk about it. In the following weeks he moved home and changed his phone number. Ive never seen him since.

If there is one piece of advice i would give, its dont leave your drinks unattended or accept a drink from a new friend (he did). Its just not safe!
Sorry to spoil the party. Dont let it stop you going, I'm giving it another go this year. I'll let you know if i managed to enjoy the place again.

My heart goes out to your friend, it really really does. We had a spate of spiking of drinks in Newcastle last year - all in the same bar - a well known chain throught the UK. My friend was at speed dating at this place and she was spiked, luckily she left the place a short while after this happening, she passed out in front of all the bouncers at the door - they called an ambulance and she was dealt with there and then at the scene.

I was totally shocked as I had got guest passes for a lot of colleagues for this event through work and I had to alert the chain to what had happened.

Speed dating tho - can you imagine what could have happened if she hadnt left with a friend when she did...... :?

this could be the last great summer! clamping down hard is alittle late now
for this season! its almost over.. but they have 8 months to work on the clamp for next year. so if their is gonna be a clamping down on the day clubs, drugs, all night partys, partys in general. I think it will be planned for next year and be in full effect by 2006 summer..

SO PEEPS! this could be the last time you see IBIZA as it was!

then again it could all just be propagander and its all talk and nothing will change ;)

I said this last year and wasnt that fussed about going this year. Not sure if I felt that way because the line ups werent anywhere as good or if it was down to some of the pisstaking prices going up even more but I definately think its losing it. (waits for abuse)

That's strange. Police have attended Space in the past, both in uniform and undercover.

Space have a good relationship with the cops, and Guardia Civil aren't likely to take 'No we're having a party' for an answer from anybody.

Nor do the security staff have a habit of smiling.

We invite all shades of opinion here on Spotlight (within reason) but please be very careful when making such serious allegations, especially anonymously.

It is strange, but i assure you its very true. I was there with my friend, the police and the guy from space. To be honest i was in two minds whether to write that post, but after thinking about it i decided it was best to warn people. GHB is very dangerous!

The last i heard the Greater Manchester Police were on the case and not very happy with the lack of co-operation from Ibiza. Im not saying everyone is corrupt, but something wasn't right on that occasion.

Maybe no one could believe that a straight male could be raped by men? It seems unbelievable to me too.

My name is Danny Craigie for the record. I dont think such a matter should be trivialised do you?

THE ORGANISATION WILL CARRY OUT STUDIES ON DRUGS AND ADDICTIONS
Drug Observatory ready before 2006
THE Ministry for Health and Consumer Affairs is finalising the creation of the Balearic Observatory for Drug Dependency and other Addictions, which will be responsible for coordinating the promotion and compiling of studies and research into this theme. The creation of this Observatory has been planned by the Balearic Government and is included in the Drug Dependency Law, which came into force on 10 July (article 41). In fact, as explained by the regional drug coordinator, Bartomeu Jaume, there is already what “we could call the first cementing of this future observatory within the Coordination Centre for Drug Dependency and Addictions in the Ministry for Health and Consumer Affairs”. However, at the moment it is only a single department which collects documentary information concerning drugs and addictions on the islands.
The aim of the Ministry for Health and Consumer Affairs, is to have this Balearic Observatory for Drug Dependency and other Addictions, ready to start working before the end of this year. The Ministry is currently drawing up all the necessary plans and procedures to create the Observatory.
The Balearic Observatory will be located within the Ministry for Health building.
The Balearic government is taking a tougher stance on drugs, following the death of an Irish tourist in Ibiza earlier this month. He is alleged to have died after taking liquid ecstasy. Inspections at clubs have been increased and police have been carrying out more raids in an effort to cut down on trafficking.

majorca daily bulletin

btw, the other day there was an interview (d.d.i. i think) with one of the owners of xueno in formentera and, like the owner of pacha, he also attacked the afterhours saying that they dont have all the problems we have in ibiza with drugs as they dont have afterhours. he added that they have a different kind of clientele and people go clubbing till 6am as very late and by midday everybody is enjoying the beaches, etc..........

btw nr 2, i am not going to comment every time the newspapers talk about a new arrested for drugs because it would be boring but this one made me laugh. some neighbors of via púnica in ibiza town called the police the other night because there was a big fight in one apartment. at the same time the undercovers saw 3 italians running in the same area (a couple trying to catch the other one after a discussion) so they stopped them. then another italian came running screaming "the drugs, the drugs, the police, the police" (what a loser  ). so the undercovers started following the screaming italian who went in direction to that apartment where another italian come out running with a bag with 1.314 E pills, 118 gr of cocaine, 11,5 gr of MDMA, 235 gr of marihuana, 48 gr of hachís and 6 doses of LSD. all the italians have been arrested..........

That's some serious sentencing going down there :!:

man the Ibiza prisons must be just full of Drug dealers ahahahahah
are their ever murders on ibiza?

man I am reading all these drugs bust this year..
but I guess its fair to say they arrest many dealers EVERY YEAR right?
but they only manage to scratch the surface..
2 million people during the summer!
even if they catch 500 dealers which I doubt VERY much they do..
thats NOTHING!! well its something.. but all its really doing is ,, is stopping some people from making some money! its not really making drugs less available.. becuase there is someone else to receive the business and make more money..
LEGALIZE IT!! CONTROL IT!! TAX IT!!! profit from it!!
ITS TIME!!

btw, today theres an article in diario de ibiza about the future of clubbing tourism signed by josé manuel bar (central government delegate to ibiza and formentera):

 http://www.diariodeibiza.es/secciones/noticia.jsp?pIdNoticia=73672

I'm no spanish speaker and so I just did the translate function to get it in pigeon form. But from what i can decipher although it seems pretty short on detail it looks overall pretty fair to us clubbers, esp. bits like...

On the first question, I must say that I have not frankly had access to any study with statistical reliability that makes negatively correlate the increase of the young tourism specifically attracted by the nocturnal leisure with the diminution of the tourism of more familiar character, although yes some publications - even foreign they have already talked about it.

So nothing to panic about yet?
