Brits have a holiday on Monday because of US Memorial Day? Or is it just for people who work in finance since all of the NY bankers will be off?
Just a coincidence as Brits get various random holidays called ‘bank holidays’. Shops are usually open but no banks, post offices or offices. Had to look at what Memorial Day is as not heard of it before. We have Remembrance Day on 11 Nov, but that isn’t a bank holiday.

Talk of another bank holiday this year in October, as usually pubs make a killing on these long weekends, that’s assuming they’ll be able to open in October.

Our bank holiday system is daft, we're overloaded with them in spring and then just have the one until Xmas. Easter should be fixed too, but that would upset the church brigade no doubt!

I'd like the early May one shifted to October - late October when the kids are off, so that would end the holiday season with a boost. Think we should also have another one and add it on to August for a very long end-of-summer weekend. (And Manchester Pride would be four days+!!)

Interesting as a possible reason why some get it worse; covid manages to reduce number of t-cells in a person.

How does this square with the theory that cytokine storms are the big culprit in severe cases? Wouldn't replenishing T-cells, which produce cytokines, prime the pump for another storm....

Perhaps the other parts of the immune system, killer cells, B cells, macrophages?

Maybe, and this is just me guessing as not a biological scientist or that, but low t-cell count could mean the immune system responds, but the virus isn't reduced as it normally would be and keeps going around trying to recruite more of immune response but key players are missing?‍♂️

Actually just found this article

Seems covid19 triggers cytokine storm by releasing the proteins that signal it. The effect is to deplete the immune systems t-cell reservoir so can't flush the virus out your system.

Kinda like taking too much MDMA, run out of seratonin and you're stuffed ?

Edit: this is a more detailed one
