Dutch researchers have published an article today (in a good trustworthy newspaper) with new insights and calculations based on antibodies testing with blood donors in the Netherlands and the current death toll here.
The numbers say: the chance to die from Corona under the age of 70 is even smaller than your normal chance of dying under the age of 70. As of April 15th there have been 119 corona-related deaths in the age range of 20 till 69. Over 70% of those deaths had underlying suffering.
For someone under 20 the chance of dying from Corona is 1 in 26.400.

Therefor they are pleading a 60- economy to the government, saying the best way to deal with this now is to basically keep all restrictions such as mostly isolation (semi-lockdown here), social distancing and no acces to certain locations for all people above 60.
For everyone below 60: re-start everything like it was asap. Separate those two groups from each other as long as needed until there is a vaccine.

Tonight the dutch government will give a press conference about the current restrictions.
It is to be expected, based on a leaked advise from the medical crisis team, they will open up primary school again in may, secondary school a month later. Also kids below 18 can go back to sports again.

what about young people who live with old people or who care for old people?

Re masks in public. They are more to protect others from you if you are a carrier, not the other way about (I think people are wearing them as they feel they are protecting themselves).

If you are standing next to a carrier and they are talking without a mask they are producing vapou, your standard mask won't protect you from this.

However if the person talking was wearing a mask most of the large particles produced when they talk will be collected by the mask before it can turn to smaller vapour. Even a scarf or cloth can do this.

I find the underlying health label, worryingly vague. I suffered a while back with low iron, which caused slightly high blood pressure. I’ve never been on meds, but I wonder if the catch all ‘underlying health condition’ would get trotted out? I’ve not come across a definition of what an underlying health condition actually is or isn’t.

it was yesterday when I thought for the first time that we can actually see some light at the end of the tunnel here. but we'll have to be very careful, I fear in some places in europe the measures might get lifted too early and we get a relapse. interesting times ahead.

Even as bad things have been it's clearly getting better really fast now. Clear plateaus in many nations and some are even declining.

ibiza thread updated yet again with the latest numbers.

also, it seems as the end of the lockdown in spain will be done depending on the number of cases in each autonomía. this means canary islands and balearics might 'open up' earlier than madrid and barcelona which are sadly the two areas with most cases. this isn't confirmed yet, but it's something portrayed in the media lately

I'm not so sure on the 'fast'.... it will still take a while until we're in the clear. and as I said, I'm a little worried some places open too early and will then get punished for it again. we'll have to see.

We've hopefully push community cases down to point of no transmission. But remember we started in January with no cases and a few infected people came into our countries from abroad and took us to where we are now.

So unless countries have large testing capacity with contact tracing, a handful of cases can send us back down this path ?‍♂️

I don't get this obsession with "underlying health issues" either. My mate is diabetic and would expect to live a relatively normal life but would also it seems be very vulnerable to the virus, is the suggestion that it's ok to throw such people under a bus so we can all get back to work?

This is the end of the beginning not the beginning of the end. People seem to be very excited about the plateau and decline when in reality we will have to cycle through like this for 18 months or so without a vaccine. Out Trust is planning for a 'new normal' that lasts 2 years. Dont see how any mass events fit into this

If they went down that route, it would be interesting to see how legally they could enforce that. Here in the UK we don't (as a rule) carry ID, so someone like me, if approached, would say I'm 58 even though I'm 60+. Would everyone have to show photo ID to get in a bar?? Would people over 60 be fined, go to prison if they tried or did break the rules? Or would it just be advisory?

Mass events with a limitation of...let's say 3000 people all under the age of 50?
If you separate the young from the old (harsh I know...and maybe really difficult but see the dutch research a few posts back) it will not flood the IC's.

I think the only way is to test 100% of the population.
If having had CV = immunity, then those who have had can mix with those who have never had.
But what about the carriers? How long can they be isolated before CV is out of their system (if it ever is?)

I think bars, restaurants, sport locations, events, clubs, big shopping malls will maybe ask for an ID and not allow people over 60. I know, it sounds weird, but it might be part of our way out of this.

Any idea how long those restrictions would last? Frankly if those places were opened and I was imprisoned inside, I'd be seriously considering if life was worth continuing.
