Things turning sour in Italy.

Only a matter of time before there's unrest here in the UK. As I've alluded to before, places will have to start opening up to release the pressure, especially the inner-cities where open space isn't available and families are cooped up in small flats; or people will simply break rank and make the situation far worse.
We are gonna need controlled environments to let our steam off in.
In my case, I'd like an evening in the pub, people sat apart with at-table service (so no standing at the bar).
Cricket could start with fans separated (not difficult!).

no it hasn't. please stop it now.

Imperial College said the Spanish government's measures could well have saved up to 16,000 lives

There are many views, opinions and scientific approaches to this pandemic. I respect yours. Please respect mine too. :)

Same goes for my disappointment in the cancellation of festivals and my holidays. People still have the right to be disappointed about that. Im not saying my festivals or vacations are more important than people dying, but im sharing my disappointment with people that understand the importance of those festivals or ibiza trips.

Im pretty confident this 'medicine' the world has applied to this disease has side-effects that are worse than the cure itself. We'll suffer from these measures for years to come.

To be fair the same argument could be made before covid19. It is just many of us dont pay attention to places like Syria or Venezuela (or any number of troubled spots). Life can be brutal and short, but we have forgotten or ignored. My ancesters have trived under worse conditions and I am certian that all of yours have too.

Trouble is now ringing the doorbell... or not. I have many conflicting feelings about current events. Only time will tell.

I agree that logically you could apply the "how can you think about X at a time like this?" argument to any point in history. Maybe it's a reflection of where I'm currently at personally and where I live? maybe things will have cleared up by September and maybe I will make it across the water and then maybe we can then get back to all the important things in life like set times (ez Nobbie) or complaining about inaccurate genre descriptions on Juno or lamenting the state of parking around D'Alt Villa (ie real talk) :)

As long as we work to ensure everyone gets the things they need, I don't see how that can be the case. Do you have no family members in the old/ill/weak category?

unless you are a world-class epidemiologist (with over 500 posts on a Spanish holiday forum) then how can you be confident of anything? what is your area of expertise here?

My area of expertise is on the same level as anyone here.
And judging by what I've read from multiple sources...the side effects of the worldwide lockdowns are gonna be terrible. It's not just economic...it's what happens because of the economy. Suicides, depressions..poverty. It's a proven fact that people that lose their jobs and have to live on welfare will live 10 years shorter than the average person. The measures and the economic crisis that will follow ...will also have a death toll. In my country the telephone number dedicated for children in trouble in their own home has seen a huge increase in calls because of their parents working from home and abusing them. And im not even talking about how sad the elderly people are now. If you'd ask my elderly relatives...they say: Give me my life back with the risk of death. There is always a risk of death with living. But the way we are living now is not living at all.

yes all serious issues that society needs to address - but dwarfed by the alternative of thousands maybe millions of deaths. If you still can't see that, then I give up.

Unrest in the UK? We’ve been on ‘partial lockdown’ for 8 days:lol: people still working, being able to go outdoors for no reason, even some non essential shops are still open for people to go to. Its gunna be months and months (imo) until bars/restaurants start opening back up but i agree with you that they will do with tables being further apart etc

We do not know yet if there will be thousands or millions of death MORE than other years with other influenza or corona type of viruses. The vast majority of people dying...would have died anyway in the coming 5 years because of underlying deceases or age.
We do know that the virus spreads so fast that the Intensive Care units all over the world have insufficient beds and personnel. So that's a problem I can see. But then I still hold the opinion the world has overreacted and we can't turn that back now. This will have a huge impact on the world and I truly doubt if that's worth it. It's ok to disagree, I'm not looking to make my point or something like that.
The world cannot keep this up for months to come. It's damaging the world harder than the virus would have.

These are all good points, everyone.

FYI - I just read a headline that Japan closed its borders to US/UK citizens, so my sushi run tonight is not gonna happen!

Totaly agree with your comments (and we are NOT trying to proove a point).

Thanks for the heads up @Thomas Cliche I'm really curious to see how this works out:

Me too, but if it works pretty well, than I'll be f***ing mad at my gouvernement who took the decision to shot down and kill everything I love (including my job).
