I get people are bored but people whinging on about clubs/festivals etc COME ON?

Having hope things will still go ahead isn't a bad thing. I'm still hoping my September trips to Ibiza will go ahead. I've had my Ibiza April trip and the Euros Cancelled already. Which is annoying but I understand the situation.

If people have nothing to look forward to these lockdowns are going to be hell. People are already worrying about their jobs and money etc. When people have nothing to look forward to, watch attitudes change. People will start to get angry about how their life's have been affected.

Any reports on how the Island is coping at present? Im hoping its not following mainland Spains doubling rate of infection.
I just hope they are getting all the resources they need to protect them.
The island inhabitants provide massive revenue in good times and i hope they get the protection they need right now.
Long live Eivissa

my view is that ibiza is coping pretty well so far. we have a total of 85 covid-19 cases on ibiza and formentera together as of yesterday (today's update comes just after 1pm our time usually) and in the last few days the rise of cases has flattened quite a bit. every day I'm hoping to see a 'no new cases!' message, but we might still be a bit away from this.

what's certain though is that on the islands (both the balearics as well as the canary islands) we've been really lucky if you compare it to the mainland. madrid and barcelona have been hit really hard, but luckily on the islands the numbers aren't massive and the lockdown seems to work really well here. I'm sure it's also got to do with the fact that we haven't got any huge cities where thousands of people congregate at one time and also we don't have subways/tubes and also our public buses are usually not as packed as elsewhere. these bits have helped massively I'm sure.

I also believe that especially here on ibiza a lot of people have been very conscious really early that social distancing is the way to go. in our community there are lots of spiritual folk who picked up on that very quickly, but also the more 'facts only' group (that would be more my side) who try to stay informed saw that soon. and whereas in lots of places on the mainland people were still in the bars until mid march, here on ibiza lots of people went into voluntary lockdown even before the government imposed it. the community also called for cutting off flights to the mainland very early. in the end the government did it, but I'm sure we could have kept our corona-cases even lower had the flights been stopped earlier. of course we also have some incorrigibles here that cheat on the rules, but these exist everywhere and here they are in the minority. I wish those people would read the text @Zapclub93 posted further above.

in any case, and that is a personal assessment, it's clear that 2020 will be the year of patience. it is the one virtue we will all have to learn and practice. here in spain the numbers are slowly getting better, but we're a long way to go until we're in the clear. I'm almost certain the lockdown, currently in place until 11th april, will be extended until the end of april. and then, if we're lucky, in may, we might be able to go on walks again. but I think it will take months still until 'social life' as we know it will be back. and so, I've come to terms with the very real possibility that 2020 might turn into a non-clubbing summer. if we get a bit of a season in the second half of the summer that would be great. but I'm currently really not banking on it. we're nearing 10K deaths in spain (we'll probably hit that figure today or tomorrow) due to coronavirus. those numbers speak for themselves IMO. it is a pandemic and the world simply needs to get through this before we can think about festivals, incredible nights in berghain and sunny afterhours on ibiza again. these times will return and the feeling when we can reunite and cherish the community feeling on the dancefloors will be absolutely fantastic, but first, we need to be patient and wait it out.

Wise words

I feel the world has lost it completely with these measures.

no it hasn't. please stop it now.

Imperial College said the Spanish government's measures could well have saved up to 16,000 lives

Showed my Mrs these pictures this morning.

It’s the new Emirates APR001.

They are planning ahead for the mass demand in holidays after this pandemic and have commissioned these new triple deck superjets complete with swimming pool, gymnasium, games room and park.

She snapped back straight away ‘HOW THE HELL WOULD YOU KEEP THE SNOOKER BALLS ON THE TABLE???!!!! AND A BLOODY SWIMMING POOL!!!!!!???’

Yeah, well spotted love. It’s the first of April today :D ?

She didn’t laugh.

It’s going to be a long day in isolation here ?

Thanks Stivi, that sounds pretty positive considering how badly other places have suffered.
The island will no doubt bounce back from this.

I am not a div...just because I am sad about the new normal and how things will change...sad for whats to come ...yes bigger things going on in the world right now than festivals and parties being canceled, but the situation is sad and everyone deals with this in different ways

Festivals and partying is important for many people and a part of their life

This is a big situation that all of us have never been in so we have a right to be sad about what we want!

trust me, I'd rather be busting a groove at cool parties than busting my back to exercise vids but it is what it is

To be fair the same argument could be made before covid19. It is just many of us dont pay attention to places like Syria or Venezuela (or any number of troubled spots). Life can be brutal and short, but we have forgotten or ignored. My ancesters have trived under worse conditions and I am certian that all of yours have too.

Trouble is now ringing the doorbell... or not. I have many conflicting feelings about current events. Only time will tell.

Probably due to the months of preparation that are needed beforehand.

Yes I imagine money has to be spent, but with no guarantees that anything can go ahead yet I doubt insurances will cover anything.

I imagine a lot of events etc are in a similar predicament at the moment.

I was thinking more along the lines of committee meetings, planning etc but yes, money will have to be spent up top and no guarantee of a return or even insurance.
I expect the cancellation of numerous "Pride" events including the big one in London this summer.
Round my neck of the woods we host a very popular food/drink August bank holiday weekend festival, nothing like the scale of Edinburgh but still challenging.

Madrid gay pride postponed for now I imagine will cancel it soon
