It'll likely have a significant impact in USA because Janssen is the next bulk vaccine they are looking to after using vast quantities of the mRNA ones, and to speed up getting everyone "vaccinated" with one instead of two jabs. USA is highly litigious and they are very sensitive to risks of this sort of thing over there.

Reality is, they can't push back Astrazaneca without doing the same for Janssen. It's obvious there will very likely be similar risks of the same condition.
This has little to no impact in USA.

Nice bit of news I had missed, must be some hope for holidays ?

Yes very nice news.
60 GBP...that's 120 GBP for me and my wife. Two way trip so 240 GBP to make the trip to Ibiza and back.
We're from The Netherlands, so let's say it's about 200-300 Euros for me on top of my already booked holiday.

Then in Ibiza if I want to enter a club I need to provide another negative test not older than 72 hours so that makes it another 100-200 Euros about 2 or 3 times depending how long I'm staying and how many parties I want to visit? Even if I only do one event it's already another big amount of money on top of tickets drinks etc.

But hey...at least our governments are not forcing questionable vaccinations on us.

sounds like fear porn to me

Got your likes? Good.

It's harsh reality for all of us, nothing to do with fear porn.
But if you wanna bring back that term:

Today, it became clear the UK variant is NOT more deadly and nearly zero times more contagious than the original Covid-19 strain. Must be a shock to the Dutch government cause the fear for the UK variant was the sole reason our evening curfew was implemented. Guess what? Today's headlines are all about the Brazilian variant...and to create more fear the media states that vaccinations might not work on this strain, boohoo. Now that's fear porn. My reply was about a shady indirect vaccination obligation that is happening all over the world with questionable vaccins.

... and why is that ? Janssen was set to facilitate the supply chain behind the accelerating programme ... now they will have to double-dose instead of single-dose all the people they were going to give it to, as well as supply enough alternative mRNA vaccines to make up the shortfall. I don't see how that can have no impact even if it's just in terms to acting as a brake. Unless USA is hoarding so many vaccines for itself beyond those it requires in real time, to the detriment of other countries who desperately need them, which is very reprehensible. Other countries with large rollout rates are using what they have.

Yeah - twaddle lol. Where do the studies imply the UK variant is not more contagious ? There's no other plausible explanation for what happened after it emerged in UK last year.

We have more than enough Pfizer and Moderna.

We have more than enough Pfizer and Moderna.

In absolute terms (orders) or readily available to meet all the demand there would be if the same number of people came forward at the same time they would have done with Janssen out there ? If the latter then USA is hoarding tens of millions of doses more than it needs. Which is pretty obscene. If the former that is no surprise because most countries have ordered multiples of their populations of several vaccines. When they get them is what's driving whether they can vaccinate or not right now..

Looks around 23m a week from those two.

Not too shabby. (So say around 11m people a week for 2 shots)

Moderna and Pfizer were already shipping 23 million doses a week of their vaccines across the country, a number that has surely risen since. Johnson & Johnson has since added millions more doses per week to the total. It wouldn’t be shocking to learn that the combined weekly production from these three sources will hit 40 million

Settle down. It’s the former. We have enough mRNA to cover all adults by May/June. JNJ was just icing on the cake, although I do think JNJ will come back online in a few days with updated guidance.

My wife went down to the walk-in centre at 4pm, queue was not surprisingly around the block. She queued for 1 and half, got to the door and they said they'd run out. They allowed her to go inside the door whilst they locked it. No one went outside to tell people, including my sister who was further back, that they'd run out - which caused a commotion as there 100's outside.

Mrs got last one and they are not doing the walk-in tomorrow as planned. Feel sorry for volunteers in difficult situation, elated we've got first jab... disappointed for my sister

Yes, for a country of 350 Million people we are about on pace with the UK, hardly hoarding. There is currently political crisis exacerbated by pandemic so the leadership is eager to get beyond this domestically.

Altogether there will be more full doses than people. The excess will be allocated to other countries. Probably, starting with Mexico and Canada.

Speaking of Canada I have not seen @Thomas Cliche in quite a while. I hope he and his young family are ok.

So they intend to start mass-exporting production in June/July ? The all-out attack on the UK for trying to keep going with an accelerated programme beyond the over-50s has to be held up against the USA - there is one country and one country only at which fingers on this front should be pointed as far as I'm concerned. But Brits make a far easier target don't they 🤷‍♂️

Twaddle? Sure.

I already posted an article last week about this from another source going from 70% more contagious to 30% and now to 11% more contagious, but now The Lancet is also concluding that the difference is not noteworthy.
