It's now being briefed that we will have very low vaccination numbers throughout April... Original projections seemed to imply 4-5m per week and our highest monthly average so far, something must have changed.

No but it's a bit premature making huge announcements like that, he has a huge platform in terms of party goers and a lot would have booked beds and flights based on that info alone
That's exactly what he wants. The whole pandemic he has shown his impression of what may happen is always wrong, yet so many people seem to hang on his every word. He always speaks with such authority on these things.

Janssen not coming in until late Spring / early Summer along with defensive hoarding of pfizer for 2nd doses after EU threats I would guess. One way or another EU is determined to counter the optics of Britain's successful vaccination programme and slow it down even if their own is in tatters too. Dress it up how you will the underlying sentiment driving it is spite. Let;s be honest if we have to wait until EU catch up with the UK programme we may as well write off having the population vaccinated before the end of Summer

I said it before and I say it again doubt very much that only people vaxxed up will be able to travel....that will be discriminating the people that don't want a vaccine and can't get a vaccine due to no fault of their own especially as vaxs not mandatory

It will be pcr tests as well as vaxxed passports, greece already said that

Annoying that i wasn't able to get the vaccine when offered it a couple of weeks back, probably won't get an offer for months now . Was hoping I wouldn't need to be have to provide a negative test to go on holiday
:shant:

Yip its 12 weeks.

This article puts interesting slant on things.

The EU plants for making AZ vaccine are either way below where should be or not produced any vaccine at all yet.

Wonder if uk drop in supply next month is AZ shipping vaccine from uk to eu to make up for shortfall💁‍♂️

None paywall

So as it looks likely the smear tactics may be blown away very soon once again, EU now threatening to cut off pfizer and moderna supplies to UK until EU vaccination rates catch up amidst their own bumbling incompetence. In reality they would also block Janssen. She has a total bee in her bonnet about not getting their hands on AZ stocks and this is an all out ransom threat,
Agree, that's a shamefully disgraceful performance by the EU. They acted too late, paid too little, negotiated bad contracts - and now are blaming everyone else for their own failure, which will achieve nothing but alienate friendly countries. The EU spent way more money on rescuing its airlines than on establishing a vaccine supply

Meanwhile Ursula von der Leyen still has a job for whatever reason

In Germany (which used to make decisions based on "science") there is now talk of using different vaccines for the 1st and the 2nd shot, despite there having been exactly zero tests with such combinations. Russian/Chinese vaccines still haven't been approved by the EMA, and the perfectly fine AZ vaccine already approved by the EMA cannot be used until... a decision by the EMA :(

Heterologous vaccinations isn’t a new concept. The UK are doing quite a large trial on it at the moment but it’s possible it may illicit an even stronger immune response.

Sure. In fact the Russian Sputnik vaccine follows this approach (it uses different substances for the 1st and the 2nd dose). But if we are pretending to be based on science, there should be a trial first, methinks ;)

UK has never stood in the way of AZ exporting UK stocks to EU. It is a private company. Now that their own bumbling negotiations have left them with a deal they have no real leverage to enforce against AZ they are trying to ransom UK as a country to intervene in a private company's affairs. It is, quite frankly, despicable and the sooner we develop markets outside the EU for as much as we can to be shot of the spiteful petty attitudes over there the better. They really don't realize how much damage they are doing to opinions of even ardent anti-Brexiteers like me. I am now actually glad we left and hope UK never goes back. Good riddance EU.
My Dad was the most anti guy I’ve ever met! He has just declared he was wrong and he couldn’t now be happier we have gone from the EU! I told him I’m going to name him Boris after his U turn!

seriously pathetic from the EU and it really is showing them for what they are! Good riddance! We are better off out! At least my dad and I agree on something now!

Apparently other manufacturers are meeting their commitments on deliveries. Just AZ not doing so.

And AZ is the bulk of many countries vaccination programs.

To be fair, the EU didn't prohibit its member countries from ordering vaccine on their own. Every member country (including the UK if you stayed in the EU) could have avoided the vaccine fiasco by ordering the vaccine itself and establishing its own supply chain.

The current blame and blackmail game is pathetic and I am ashamed of it as an EU citizen, but the vaccine procurement disaster did not have to be even with the incompetent fool heading the EU right now.

AZ problems trace back to carrier virus production shortages in EU-based facilities. Pfizer deliveries are way behind expectations because they ceased production in some European facilities in Q1 in order to scale up facilities for later supply in Q2 onwards. As the first vaccine approved, this is the one which seriously set back progress both in UK and Europe.

The fact AZ had its own issues (in the EU raw materials production process) meant they couldn't deliver as many as they were hoping for as soon as they'd expected - and whilst the taxpayer-funded AZ held to its promise of supplying the 1st 100m doses made in UK to the British people, the mainland European production activity is where the problem actually lies.

We were let down by Pfizer in Q1 and AZ saved us. The EU expected us to sacrifice our own scarce supply to bail out the production choices made by a European company with a strong profit motive scaling up their ambitions.

And since this was posted countries are banning the AZ vaccine. Still gonna take the risk?
Of course, there will be a risk, but the risk/benefit ratio is quite clear.
This guy owns Hirslanden clinics in Switzerland. He must have some top medical advisors/experts.

Meanwhile ... from Guardian feed re Plague Rave Central :

Tanzania's president John Magufuli has died

Tanzania’s vice president Samia Sulhu Hassan on Wednesday announced the death of President John Magufuli on state television, Reuters reports.
Opposition politicians earlier this week said Magufuli was in a serious condition after contracting Covid-19 and had been flown abroad for treatment.

The irony - I wonder how many Tanzanians died as a result of his Covid policies ... a little reminder >>
