Yeah he does make good points, the problem I have with him is that he is framing it as all or nothing ; gov lockdown till autumn by when all offered jab. Or open up and get on with it.

But that is a false scenario as from what the gov seem to be saying is some form of social distancing till autumn. For instance seated service and masks while moving around indoors until seated etc, they will take a measure off at a time much more cautiously so not remove and reimpose over and over.

Classic politics summed up in one sentence 😄 👍

However with high transmission in community you have a time bomb. In Bristol area they have found a kent variant with the SA/Brazil mutation included. - bad. If not hit really hard it will out compete the current variants and *everyone* who has been vaccinated or had covid will be liable to re-infection.
When they said they dont expect the SA mutant to be come the dominant strain I scoffed. If the vaccine stops the other strains , it surely will become the dominant strain. What am I missing MrHull?

@MrHullMysterious has made my point better than me. Effectively he's putting us on different sides when in fact we probably both have very similar thoughts on when we should open.
He's doing that by demagoguing and making it seem like it's a case of 'we're stuck in lockdowns forever' v 'you want lock downs and everyone to suffer'. His argument is basically a fallacy as we're not gonna be locked down that long and nobody is calling for that, but the rhetoric he's using makes it sound like if you don't agree then you are against opening up. That's an argument i've only seen one person make and he's a complete mentalist and won't leave the house at all 😂

Yeah that's the thing. If vaccines/had covid doesn't stop you getting the SA variant and passing it on to others, it will spread. Although if less infecious and low rates in community transmission then you can effectively kill it off.

That's why it's important to get daily new cases right down, so likelihood you bump into someone having it or spreading it is really low.

All go off on jollies to Spain and come back infected if it was running rampant there, then we buggered (like the Spanish strain was brought back last summer).

Although I suspect if Spain has high incidence it will not be on the allowed list. That why we need to hope Europe does well to lower incidences too.

Should say that is why natural herd immunity is a very high risk strategy. If you let the virus replicate in tens of millions of people, every replication risks a new mutation. One that defeats the vaccines or previous immunity from infection.

Long term the tend to become more infectious but less severe, but short term can have more infectious and more serious.

Rna viruses/Coronaviruses mutate quite a lot, SARS-2 is little odd in that it doesn't as much as has "error checking" mechanisms in its generics. So that is something.

It's no coincidence the worse mutations have appeared in countries with initially high incidence.

Yeah but Neil Ferguson saying the risk of variant emerging in UK is “at least as great, if not greater” as importing one from abroad means IBIZA IS ON and I won't be told otherwise

It's been announced that the R rate is now below 1, between 0.7 and 0.9. So every single figure is going in the right direction (UK) so they really now have no excuse not to lighten things up and quickly.

Hoping; by mid-March I can attend an outdoor sporting event and go to non-essential shops and have a day out either regionally or further with cafes open for food.
Hoping; by mid-April cimenas and bars will be open.
Hoping; by mid-May they will be opening up those air corridors again, probably firstly to Ireland and Gibraltar and possibly the near continent eg Belgium
Hoping; by mid June we can fly to Spain. And back. With certainty.
Fairly realistic that

Anyone else had their jab and felt completely wrecked after a week? (@Hally)

Feel like a day or 2 after a really bad cold most of this week. Suppose is good as means immune system mounting a big response. Tbf my immune system over reacts big time to anything going around (and not always in a good way), which is why on vun list.💁‍♂️

Most of your post you are saying ’seems to be’

To me he seems to be simply saying what a lot of people are thinking at the minute. It’s striking a chord amongst most peoples thoughts and feeling right now.

Thing is...if someone is 'right-wing'...or has said or done some stuff on other political fields or whatever that is against the stream..
Whatever that person is saying about Covid is not something you can agree with ;) It's an idiot so he must be saying idiot things about Covid too.

👀
You must have a lot of people on ignore, as a lot of us (including me) have said he raises good points. Just he is making it a false narrative of it been all or nothing. 💁‍♂️

No one on ignore here.
Reading back to see if I've missed something, but I was referring to him being called an idiot.
He could be an idiot to some people, politics-wise...but if what he says about the Covid measures appeals to people here (including you apparently) we can just post that and be happy with it. No one should feel the need to post everything with a disclaimer wrapped around it that the person that said A or B might have said something about politics A or B in the past.

Edit: Nevermind, I can have a bad day too and exagarate...reading back it wasn't all that bad.

I certainly agree with whoever that person is! ;-)

I took my mum to the vaccination centre and wore FFP3 mask / used sanitizers etc etc and didn't have the jab. Was under the weather for 4 days after getting back with headaches, blocked nose etc. Bit like going into a doctor's surgery at this time of year I think you are at the biggest risk of picking something up just by going near a medical facility, probably nothing to do with the jab or Covid !

I was wearing a ffp2 mask and sanitised hands in, during and out too.

Enclosed poorly ventilated spaces for ya!

Only think is person who gave me a lift might have had it, but no symptoms and they are avoiding people too.

Hopefully just reaction to vaccine 💁‍♂️

Not as if I'm badly, just bit tired and washed out. - so standard me 😂

Yeah - some of the standard bugs that go around are massively more contageous than Covid, can get in through your eyes etc. in a poorly ventilated space. A stream of people in and out of anywhere that's not constantly ventilated is a recipe for sharing out the viral love !

Might also just have been the effort of actually going there and back after so long in lockdown taking you days to feel right again. We're all having our life force drained in confinement and a very long road ahead to become fully active and functional again !
