Genuinely aff yer barnet mate
And it was in a reply to me who has had the joy of watching the queues of ambulances and the people dying first hand. Who knows how many people normally die in our hospital how many died this last 12 months.

They've proper played me 🤔

Its only reading it back now I realise how bizarre that post was. Wow

 Absolute mentalists coming out with this. Bewildering.

How do we explain the increases in average deaths regardless of reason. Maybe it was all actors and actresses and the data is manipulated to keep us at home.

No it was in a reply about the German politicians using the scientific world to create unrealistic and fearful forecasts to keep the German citizens under pressure to obey the rules. But pulling it out of context is normal here, I know.

Genuinely aff yer barnet mate

Welcome to a discussion from 2 days ago, read the German articles and you'll see who is off their barnet.

4 Ibiza trips cancelled since this began, 2 more booked. I need hope!!!
Consolation, I had Venice cancelled 3 times last year before sneaking in a weekend break between lockdowns last year - I would be quietly confident you'll get to Ibiza this year.

Oh and remember when someone was in here trying to mock Dr Fauci for claiming wearing 2 masks was more effective? Gee, imagine if they only went and dropped the evidence to demonstrate why that's factually correct.

I've seen a few people at work have plastic mesh face guards that not only make it easier to breath with the surgical style masks, but also helps seal them better (which is the main issue with 1 mask for many and explains why 2 masks helps more).

Also just to weigh in on this clamour for lockdown to end ASAP. I get it, I really do. It's been a rotten 12 months, and people are desperate for a way out. Especially moreso in this country when they've repeatedly had clowns on the TV telling us it'll just blow over, there won't be a second wave, there'll be less than 20k dead, that all we have to do is wash our hands and sing happy birthday. Yet in terms of the pandemic and a way out, I would much rather the lockdown was extended until either there was 'herd immunity' through vaccination, or stricter measures for handling outbreaks. As soon as we have vaccinated the priority categories, that doesn't mean we're in the clear, which is what many people seem to think. The worry should then shift to mutations - and to guard against them we need to make sure transmission is kept low and outbreaks are handled swiftly. If we release too soon, we'll be back in lockdown in autumn.

I think what is really needed is data on Brazil and SA variants against the oxford vaccine (other vaccines too) for hospitalization and death.

- they just don't have this yet which is the problem.

If still catch it and a bit cold/flu unwell for a day or two and that's it. Then happy days! Think gov will be like, "play on" 😁

If results in serious disease then, well, f*** 🤦‍♂️

I suspect will prevent severe disease but not 100%. Also think oxford could have new jab that covers the Brazil and SA changes in spike protein by end April. But are under promising. (They said end of Jan was starting work on it)

To get a tweak vaccine approved requires a hundred or so volunteers to get it. Then they measure immune response and make sure it is at right level - so pretty quick compared to first time around which was testing the whole vaccine and delivery method to be safe.
Awesome thread here just posted tonight

There's a good argument for "three more months severe lockdown, then it'll all be over and we can reset our lives". But the problem is...it won't. Gawd I wish that was the case, put everyone into hibernation and then it's over.
But covid isn't working like that, it keeps changing and re-appearing.
I'm probably totally wrong, but hey...can't we find a way of living with it until all the vaccinations are perfect and everyone's had one? Personally i'd rather have complete shutdown and then freedom...but it clearly doesn't work like that.

I keep taking my vitamin D pills, they are supposed to help...and covid doesn't spread in summer liek wot it does in winter - due to being outdoors and also I understand due to us getting Vit D via sunlight which helps fight it off.

Trips to Ibiza should be compulsory paid for by the NHS!!

"Government restrictions are disrupting traditional means of support between friends and family members. Physical distancing and contact reduction are causing severe stress to many people and might increase the risk of suicide. (.....) Further and stronger restrictions on physical and social contact could lead to a further increase in the prevalence of depression. We call on all scientists, public health officials, journalists, and politicians to weigh and consider the collateral damage from government COVID-19 control measures and their negative effect on many short-term and long-term health outcomes. While trying to control COVID-19, all aspects of physical and mental health need to be jointly considered."

Also, in a surprising turn of events yesterday a newly formed alliance of prominents, including Amsterdam OLVG hospital director, the chairman of the Council for Public Health and the mayor of Amsterdam (who had to deal with giving the order to strike down days long of protests just two weeks ago) have put out a manifest saying that the current measures are no longer bearable for youngsters and need to be adjusted. They call out the government and ask them to take responsible risks in easing the measures in the coming weeks.

Another mayor...the mayor of Utrecht showed up in a talkshow last night saying she wants to open restaurants in a pilot phase to create a way out of the lockdown.

So in the beginning of our lockdowns the mayors (unchosen by the people in this country...) were the ones asking the governments for even stricter measures. Now mayors of two major cities are asking the government for room to open up... 🤷‍♂️

From UK perspective, I don't think it's unreasonable to expect gradual loosening of measures from mid-March given where the numbers are heading

Same here. I think loosening based on number was already possible here. But our government claimed the British variant was coming and wanted to lockdown even stricter to prevent it from taking over.

he's deffo wrong on one point - he said all holidays went on last summer....they clearly didn't; I had to "cancel" my two I expected in Ibiza in september as the drawbridge went up. there were millions in the same boat.
Holidays went on mostly everywhere in Europe at some stage over the summer, toward back end of summer you couldn't get to Ibiza but regardless of the technicalities hes not wrong in the sense holidays were still going ahead

I remember at the beginning of all this Covid fiasco, some people got their knickers in a right twist if you called it the ‘Chinese’ virus.

But now it’s the ‘British’ variant.

Outraged, I am. Write a strongly worded letter to someone, I will 😄

I pretty much agree with everything he has said to be honest.
Yeah he does have valid points but seems to tilt it towards "the gov gonna have us in full lockdown till autumn", when in reality it's going to ease restrictions one at a time. Mass gatherings probs won't be allowed except with tight rules (test everyone before and after).

Schools going back is the big unknown and if going by last year Sept+, might screw us over. Bloody kids 😂
