Pubs closed her Last they said for 3weeks and that bullshit, 3 weeks time is a bank holiday here and Halloween so no way will they open on that weekend, another 3 or 4week extension will bring you to December busy time for bars and restaurants Christmas ect.. That won't happen either.. I'm hearing January 6th is the real date that places might open... Hope I'm wrong ?

Why don't we just ban the sale and consumption of alcohol for a period of time.

Back it up with £1000 fines for anyone failing a breathalyser. Police can go door to door knocking and checking.

This will prevent house parties and other lewd behaviour such as casual sex which is causing a spike in cases.

Alcoholics can be provided 'support' in a similar manner to the support the unemployed are getting. Maybe send them an online training course about the harms of alcohol abuse.

This will work right? No complaining its for the greater good.

We can call it a 'Circuit Rewiring' as it might kick some brains into gear as it seems people don't seem to care (or maybe they don't realise) the harm 'fighting a virus' is causing unless it directly effects them.

Meaasge to those who are desperate for the pubs to shut;

Q - what happens if that happened and cases/admissions/deaths continued to rise - as is happening right now - despite next-to-zero increases of all when the bars re-opened in July through to August?
Q - how come there was a sudden spike mid-August in Scotland, and mid-September onwards in England?
Did 5m people all decide to descend on the pub in one week?

Shutting the bars is like putting a plaster over a cut when someone's had a heart attack. You're seen to be doing something...but making the situation worse for the sake of seeing to be doing something.

Note - Sturgeon shuts hospitality in central Scotland today.

Also note, the number of recorded covid deaths in Scotland given today can be counted on the thumb of one hand.

suicide numbers will sadly increase, up 15% last year hate to see what the figures for this year are going to be come December ..shot out economies will only add to further depression

so many factors other than just the virus its self

Just to clarify I don't alcohol should be banned or agree with any of the hospitality restrictions.

I also think the rise in cases is almost entirely down to increased testing and faulty PCR tests.

I'm from central Scotland, I used to be a supporter of the SNP and Sturgeon.

No longer , I will never be voting SNP again. I now think she is

power mad
deluded
trusting advice from the wrong people
maybe being blackmailed
corrupt

At least you get a laugh out of Boris.

Sounds familiar. Think that is the job description for all politicians sadly.

agree mate, it’s also convenient for her to shut the pubs etc with the old firm game on the 17th..

Something like that, a weekend shutdown for a good reason, is OK. Don't think I'm having a go at football, for example if Manchester's Gay Pride weekend was this weekend, it would attract thousands, and would be totally untenable, and if they thought people would descend on the village anyway, they could and should shut it down for the weekend.

By the same token, closing pubs at 10pm on a Wednesday when there's a handful inside, drinkig socially....cretinous.

f*** that for a laugh

Here in Frankfurt, all restaurants and bars will have to close at 10pm from Friday on. :(

Not sure what they are thinking - we had a local explosion of new cases at a shelter for homeless, asylum seekers and East European migrants. Somehow I doubt they frequent restaurants and bars

?
Just seen interviews with scientists on this from both sides. While in theory it makes sense, in practice with test and trace shambles and almost impossibility of properly shielding those at risk (never mind effectively sticking them in a "forever" lockdown) it would be littered with a lot of deaths.

In reality the elderly/vulnerable ain't out partying with students etc, so why hospital admissions on the up up. #shitShow

Only solution:

It's the wrong sort of laugh, sadly. And I'd be amazed if tougher lockdowns in England don't follow swiftly.

I don't know why govts in Europe suddenly decided to close bars and restaurants at 10pm... Did they all decide this in a meeting with a cup of tea and a biscuit?

I doubt any scientists backed up this bright idea

The first two names on that article are Karol Sikora who is an absolute fraud, and Steve Baker who is laughable.

There are arguments for relaxing a lockdown for those deemed not at risk and protecting the vulnerable. But the ones presented so far aren't credible, nor are they reassuring that they would be the best thing for my health and wellbeing. I don't want Covid, I don't want Long Covid, I don't want to risk catching an unknown disease that nobody knows the lasting effects of.

Schools and Universities went back... seems to be what’s drastically increased the cases in my eyes
