But then you complained about the rules when they were stricter. We could go back to no pubs, no restaurants etc.
I complained about all the rules from the start.
Also, in the Netherlands we've been going from no bars/restaurants to max 50 people, to max 100 people, back to max 30 people and with a curfew. It's like a yo-yo.

The normal situation is not bars and restaurants with restrictions.
The normal situation is bars, restaurants, clubs, pubs open.
We're being tricked into believing we should be happy we have bars and restaurants with limited capacity until 10 pm.

UK folk - I know in the early COVID rescue packages, any business could take a very low interest loan - over a long period right? A mate of mine took £250k (no idea how this was calculated, whether it was based on % of annual turnover, or requested) for his events business. This see's him through until next Spring apparently for wages, rent, etc.

Some of the comments from the government over creative / arts industry have been disgraceful, but could many of those affected not have taken these government loans to cover the same periods?
I believe so, the loans were open to everyone from what I understand. There were different ones for different sized businesses:

I suspect that the folk who didnt were just reluctant to get themselves into a big debt position with no guarantee of when they would be back to normal. Also, initially, the furlough scheme covered a huge part of their costs (staffing), so potentally didnt feel it was necessary. Now the scheme has ended, the outlook is likely very different.

But the loan could have been repaid right? So you could have taken it, put it away somewhere and then made a call if you really needed it or not.

All about risk profile isn't it. The more people you put in a small area for a longer period, the higher the chances. It is a bit obtuse to think that way. The same way people say 'HAHA CORONAVIRUS CAN'T BE CAUGHT IN PUBS AT 9.59pm BUT CAN AT 10.01pm'

Personally I think the whole giving birth thing has been a farce, I'd have liked to have seen tests be prioritised for those giving birth + their partners, so partners could be there for the whole thing.

She could have given birth in the pub and had 5 people there

Regarding child birth, it isn't that simple unfortunately. (Thankfully) there is a lot of choice for expectant mothers nowadays on where they can chose to give birth, whether they want it to happen at home or at any number of medical settings.

The issue quite literally comes if there is a complication during birth. A lot of birthing centres don't have doctors, only nurses and midwives. So if a problem, however small, occurs then the mother needs to be switched to a medical setting with a doctor. Meaning they would be visiting multiple settings without the time for a test. Which is why the birthing partner must wait until the very last moments of the birth, once the staff present are satisfied that they will be no need to move the mum.

Gov at it again telling people in the music and arts industry to retrain and find a new job. I’m more and more p1ssed off and it doesn’t even concern me (job wise) !!

Genuine question - did you watch the full interview video with Rishi ?

balearics & ibiza update:

definitely looking better now, slowly but steadily we're beating the second wave.
Yep, the numbers look much better now. If the drop in new infections continues the same way, the Balearics will be under the "50 new cases/100.000 people/week" threshold a week from now, and hopefully the German travel warning will be removed.

what kind of heartless jobs worth would actually pull them up on it, id sooner be down the road out of work than stoop to telling a grieving family they can't still with their mother in that situation! empathy and compassion is what a lot of people seem to be missing now.. gone are the days of Thursday nights standing on doorsteps clapping

True, still some interest payable on it though I should think. Plus, if you’ve got a stash of cash, could make it tougher to avail yourself of future support

I guess the thing I am struggling with - is there was obviously grants for self employed, loans for businesses at the start of this. Even recently the Arts got a grant of £1.xBn for venues etc. So whilst it is likely less than anyone would get normally there has been help available. So has it either not been distributed, not been used, or really people want things open again? I just can't figure it out

True, but surely for every one admission, there's one departure further down the line, the vast majority being recovered, a tiny few sadly die? I never see figures saying "324 new discharges today".
Do that for a month and there are no beds left. Actually it would be a lot quicker with Covid cases doubling by the week before interventions were made.
