Based on the latest UK stats - about 1/3rd of people getting COVID-19 are hospitalised. (Includes from start of pandemic) which is still quite alarming to me (source https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk/ )

not sure that is correct! Out of the 700 plus people at the North East university that tested positive only 70 odd have shown symptoms. If you look at it like that for the country as a whole it’s more like 33% of the 10% showing symptoms end up in hospital.

with Christmas, Boxingday and New years approaching.. very strange times indeed I wonder if they give a pass for the nights and days

bars shutting at 10 on NYE is going to cook up all kinds of anarchy if that is still the case, be a fair few houses getting grassed in to say the least ?

Should do it like a party at Halloween ?. Close curtains and sit in the dark, pretending no one is in ?

Tl;dr; lingers in air in enclosed spaces that have poor air refreshing, esp if heavier breathing happening (exercise, singing, shouting etc). Basically aerosol in those environments.

Edit: no shit sherlock ?

Saw a mate last night who's girlfriend has just given birth. He wasn't allowed in the room until she was 4cm...sat in the car park outside for 2 hours while she was 3cm. He said the same 2 nurses that were in there at 3cm were in there at 4cm. But the coronavirus knows not to attack once the vagina is dilated 4cm you see, it's not safe at 3cm

All about risk profile isn't it. The more people you put in a small area for a longer period, the higher the chances. It is a bit obtuse to think that way. The same way people say 'HAHA CORONAVIRUS CAN'T BE CAUGHT IN PUBS AT 9.59pm BUT CAN AT 10.01pm'

Personally I think the whole giving birth thing has been a farce, I'd have liked to have seen tests be prioritised for those giving birth + their partners, so partners could be there for the whole thing.

It's about the insanity of the rules.

I would say the risk profile grows when you close pubs at 10 pm.....people going home together to continue the party in even smaller, not professional ventilated rooms.

On giving birth..from 4cm to 10cm can last for hours again..it's complete nonsense.

But then you complained about the rules when they were stricter. We could go back to no pubs, no restaurants etc.

UK folk - I know in the early COVID rescue packages, any business could take a very low interest loan - over a long period right? A mate of mine took £250k (no idea how this was calculated, whether it was based on % of annual turnover, or requested) for his events business. This see's him through until next Spring apparently for wages, rent, etc.

Some of the comments from the government over creative / arts industry have been disgraceful, but could many of those affected not have taken these government loans to cover the same periods?

balearics & ibiza update:

definitely looking better now, slowly but steadily we're beating the second wave.

yesterday we've had no new cases here on ibiza, today it's 19. hospitalization rate is going down too - from 60 in hospital a month ago we're now down to 38 and just 1 in ICU.
