In Brighton, very few people are now wearing masks in pubs. We seemed to be the only people wearing them to go inside and to go to the bar. Shocking to see so many people leaning over the bar not wearing a mask, almost in the face of the people serving.
But masks arent required in pubs at all...not even to go to the bar (according to the legislation), unless its a cafe and premises that does take away as well eat in? Ive never seen anyone either going into a pub or moving around a pub with a mask on, plus all of the places I go to have screens at the bar which has that physical barrier between the person serving and the customer

Why are masks required to browse around a shop, or even go in to pick up a takeaway. But not required to sit in? And I mean medically rather than legislation.

I think this is part of the problem

Doesn't help testing is falling appart in uk again. One of the reasons it was bad first time around is we didn't have capability of testing enough and knowing where it's spreading to take action.

Guy I work with lost sense of smell and been trying to book a test for 3 days ?‍♂️

Agreed - colleague at work is now isolating with her 3 kids because one of them has had a bad cough since Friday. School won't let them back without tests for them and she's been unable to get a test since then. She's considering going private at £150 per child just to get it sorted

I suppose because you cannot eat or drink with a mask on, but can shop around or pick up a takeaway with a mask on. So masks are mandated for activities that can be done while wearing a mask, and eating in is not one of them. But the way things are headed, I am afraid sitting in will be a thing of the past once again :(

So to Clara point - you really should be wearing a mask to go up to a bar to order some food and drink. And only really take your mask off once socially distanced back at your table or whatever

Just announced by the president of the Balearics:

New restrictions for Ibiza Town and San An to be announced at the end of the week.

Thats a personal (or moral) view point and not a legally required one (or even a government advice one)

It isn't really personal or moral, it is common sense surely.

Or are you less likely to catch or transmit COVID if you are eating or drinking in, then getting a takeaway? I am really not sure this government 'advice' should replace common sense

To me it doesn't.
If the UK follows the Netherlands....we are not headed back to where we were in march.

Perhaps you misunderstood my point. It wasn't a reflection of the lethality or even the contagion rate, but more to demonstrate the knock on effect this has to life at the very basic level ie. People being in limbo and having to isolate whilst they await results. That backlog is only going to increase

If you can't adequately test and trace, then whilst hospital admissions and death rate might be better than before, how do you manoeuvre out the system you have created for yourself?

You either have to implement stricter measures or start to relax them. Which will they choose???

not in Madrid...

20% hospital beds are covid-related. other non-urgent ops actually getting delayed (source: El Pais)

same here on balearics. the picture might be better in the netherlands, but here, while we're certainly not in the same situation as in march/april, the picture is still not very pretty.

also, just out.... ibiza town and san an will get some form of reduced mobility from next week friday onwards it seems. not a proper lockdown I think, but details to follow

so that's still 12 days away. I wonder if they're basically waiting with it until the last tourists are gone.
