safe flight corridors with the UK seemingly close again. but even if they become reality, I believe our situation would still have to improve so we'd actually get an OK

10,000 new cases in Spain yesterday, a snitch under the daily recorde, even during the height of the pandemic. Something's gone wrong, yet it's not refelcted in the deaths, will there be a surge next month? Meanwhile the UK rises again, yet deaths are low and stable.

everywhere I look they say half a year into the pandemic (in europe that is) they've learnt a lot about how to take care of the serious cases. ventilator use, remdesivir and some more therapeutics apparently really help. that and the fact the average age of people having it now being lower seems to be why the death rate is a lot lower than during the first wave.

still though, in a few areas in spain the positivity rate is really high and hospitalisation/ICU rate goes up with that.

Cases through the front door in our hospitals definitely creeping up now, starting to worry a little about what comes next

OK, that's September gone, just transferred my Ryanair flights to next October (21) and paid a whopper for the privilege, will book the hotel nearer the time. If Covid's still around and no vaccine by then we really are up Shitstreet WC1.
If things don't improve by the end of next week, then this October gets binned too.

Somethings wrong with the testing. Multiple sources have published about it already.
PCR tests that come out as positive while in reality it only shows a dead particle of the virus, in most cases not even infectious anymore.
In the Netherlands, way too many people get tested everyday...20k people a week are faking symptoms to get tested...

If the hospital numbers and deaths stay this low all over Europe...governments should change their tactics to not test test test...but to less testing. Only test with real Covid-like symptoms, not with every running nose or cough or because you need to travel next week or have a wedding.

The PCR cycles thing is getting a lot of attention now.

Recommended number is 30. UK Gov has asked it to run at 45 cycles, so it’s no wonder they’re finding so many “positives”
Yeah read that. Although apparently the issue they have is they have multiple providers where some are more sensitive than others, so they going through slow process of trying to identify number of cycles per test product. Let's hope they don't change anything between batches of manufacturing.

Unfortunately there is no quick mass way to test if virus viable or not. (Yet). So gov gonna urge on side of caution.

As said previously, if by end December all still looking fine hospital wise, I'd expect relaxation of rules. Esp in uk with brexit Jan 1st 2021 and wanting to give economy best chance possible.

And on what elrow said above. The UK gov is taking that line saying only symptomatic or people specifically asked should take a test.

Suppose in a way it's a bit like getting some work done on your house. The more bit of wall they peel back to have a look, the more find wrong and needing fixing.

If only knew before hand you'd not ask them to peel back that particular bit of wall ?

Analogy police alert? lol

Some local councils still asking ANYONE to come for a test, whether they have symptoms or not. Offering walk in testing with no prior appointment ?

Plent of local councils stioo asking ANYONE to come for a test, whether they have symptoms or not. Offering walk in testing with no prior appointment ?
Yeah it is all a disorganised mess by this gov. Left hand doesn't even know there is a right hand?‍♂️

Pretty sure the Cummings will be wanting the test cycle stuff asap, as will make numbers look better and claim they've "got covid done" ?
