Surely they would just lock down all over or not at all? In any case, it’s a sad prospect for all

no. check that link further up in the thread where you can see cases in each municipiality. it's really only ibiza town that looks bad. sant joan has almost no cases so why lock it down?

Are many of you still working from home?

Or riding out furlough still?

Facing redundancy?

My missus is back in full time work now (works in a special needs school) although they do one day a week working from home.

My kids are back in school this week too, has been a bit of a malarkey dropping the youngest one off. New systems to enter and exit and strict drop off times etc. I got shouted at by a few teachers (nothing changes eh lol) The systems change every day, and there are a lot of confused looking parents in the mornings lol, but fair play to the teachers they are doing their best to make it all work.

The main thing is the kids and my lass are all very worn out at the end of the day now after having had an easy time of it since March. The peace and tranquility in my house is fcuking immense ?

On a darker note, I just had my final consultation today with my employers (via phone) and in 30 days I’ll be redundant along with the rest of my team.

I also got a nice tax bill in my letterbox from HMRC today too. Cheers you cunts, you never remember my birthday but you’ll chase me to the end of the world for your money.

So yeah it’s been a great day ??

on the general situation here in spain - numbers are creeping up everywhere and sadly this week, the death rate did too. as soon as elderly people get it, the death rate comes right back up :(

I did notice earlier on when I looked at Spains worldometer page that the daily infections were over 8000 a day for the past few days :(

Holy shit!

I can totally relate dude.
I'm lucky enough to keep my job..for now...but have been working at home since march 13 and salary has been cut a little.

Kids are back in school and sports and the rules change weekly lol.

Sucks to hear you might lose your job. Hope things change or you'll find something else soon.
Even if our governments would do a 180 now, recovery of a lot of sectors will take time so the situation is just pure shit.

Is it just me that sees a 8%ish hospitalisation rate in Ibiza and thinks that is high ?
The things that scares me about Ibiza and other places that haven’t yet been hit hard is the fact it could rip through the old and venerable like other places! The place will go into meltdown!
Not to mention the dire consequences for all those involved should that happen. I really hope this is not the case ?!

Do we have any stats on those people such as age etc?

I don't, but it's the same everywhere...the majority of hospitalised people are either elderly and/or people with other previous conditions. my sis in law is a nurse over in palma and in the first wave she said a huge precentage of people who ended up in ICU due to covid were obese. young & healthy are the exception, but it does happen.

does this actually even matter? they are all people.

Of corse they are all people and it doesn’t matter. I was curious for 2 reasons, the first I mentioned earlier, Ibiza hasn’t really had a first wave and I already said I hope now it looks like it may be starting that the elderly and vulnerable don’t get nailed like has happened elsewhere.
The Second reason, a friend of mine knows 8 people there who has tested positive but we’re pretty much all unaware they had it. All these were under 35 yo. I wondered if there were many In that age group that had hit the hospitals yet on the island.

It matters, because government could have decided (or could decide after all) to put measures in place for those that are vulnerable instead of measures for the entire population.

Note: I dont place myself above those that are vulnerable to this virus, but putting the entire world on pause because a relatively small percentage of people are vulnerable is not sustainable in the long term.

However...sucks to hear that the numbers including hospitalization and death rate are going up again. Bad news indeed.

This is my question/complaint in response to the Diario Ibiza numbers from Wednesday. The chart was showing number if Covid cases in Ibiza as % of population.
BUT, resident population is not the number of people here in July &Aug because of tourism and I doubt all cases were “residents”. So “rate” of infection overstated by the people Who arrived with Covid and spread it.

I think the “rate” based on population is really unfair and not reflective of reality.
Humbug.

The vaste majority are residents.

the issue with that is it seems the world (except south east asian countries) isn't really doing well at trying to protect the elderly and vulnerable. personally I'm also fed up with the situation, but the concept of protecting the elderly doesn't seem to work well IMO
