there is constant traffic aross the water, people flying back and forth, goods being shipped across. I'd say it is only time before there are new outbreaks (I think there already have been in the Canaries). if people in higher risk areas know that the Baleares are exempt from international quarantine rules, won't they simply fly there first before changing flights and actually increase the risk of contagion? My guess is that is what the authorities fear

This is exactly what would happen.

We will officially throw in the towel this week on IBZ 2020. Between the US citizen travel restrictions, masks everywhere and the threat of new shut-downs on the mainland, I dont think I would be able to get in until the end of the year.

I got bailed out by the airline and hotel so I get a (mostly) pre-paid trip in 2021. Currently looking at 3-4 weeks the end of June and early July.

Right now, they can fly e. g. to Germany from Spain, change planes and fly on to the UK. Adding Spanish islands to the equation wouldn't change a thing.

Sorry man. sucks to hear.

The consequence of the FCO advice of course is it warrants anyone’s travel insurance invalid :-(
Yeah, plus the likelihood of airlines cancelling flights as passenger numbers will drop. My job also means self-isolating at home for 2 weeks is nearly impossible so I was hoping that the rumours the Islands might be taken off the list were true, but seems not...

Seems like Ibiza/Balearics now put on the 'essential travel only' list by the FCO, along with the mainland. So it seems the government is tightening rather than loosening restrictions. https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/spain

Due to fly in 3 weeks so feeling a bit gutted at this point.

Has this literally just been updated?
Hopefully now we will get a refund from jet 2 if the advice covers all of Spain

Is this likely to change again this week? I thought talks were still on-going.

Meant to be flying out on Saturday...

Who knows at the moment...I was reading rumours that the Spanish gov't was in negotiation to exempt the islands, but this seems to have gone the opposite way.

We are due out next week and reading what the foreign office spokesman said seems that they don't fancy the idea of various countries trying to negotiate regional variations to FCO advise or quarantine so just sacked the whole thing off ... Whilst I have been firmly on the side of caution for the whole pandemic I felt August might be the best / safest time to get away before a tough autumn / winter at home and feel pretty gutted now ... I really cant see our October trip going ahead now either ?

Just posted this on another page.... If you are booked to go and can do the quarantine on return you should be able to get insurance with battleface.com they cover non essential travel regions and COVID medical expenses

Problem is that airlines will cancel all flights rather than fly against FCO advice so its unlikely you will get there.
