I'm feeling completely drained of this year, we are still going to go ahead with our trip (as long as the flight still goes ahead) selfish as it may sound life needs to go on and we will cross that bridge when it comes to it ..totally agree with previous posts how on earth has our country come to the narrative of traveling to Spain to be a threat pot calling the kettle black or what

The government should ask all travellers returning from Spain to 'get tested' when they arrive back in Britain and if their test is negative there is no need to self isolate. Plenty of drive-thru test zones. My sister works in a care home and had a slight cough. She was told to self-isolate for 14 days, but when she got home they told her to get tested and she was clear. She was back at work within 48 hrs.
Surely that’s a better option ain’t it. Wouldn’t bother me about taking a test when I returned instead of quarantining!

In my opinion they'd have been better saying all non essential foreign travel was off the cards until September, when the kids go back to school and travel demand naturally drops off a bit. We'd have then been a lot clearer on 'second waves' the UK tourist industry could have done with the boost also to make up for lack of May and June trade.

Sure that would have annoyed countries that rely on UK tourist income such as Spain and Greece and it would cause the travel industry more pain...but the travel firms won't be having a great day today either after this U-turn, phones will be red hot with people demanding refunds or updates, it may have been better for them to have just kept the staff furloughed.

Absolutely wounded we've just changed our holiday to Pula, over a decade of continuous trips to the white isle and first year it looks like we are going to miss pretty gutted to say the least.

Exited to see Croatia though but over all bit of a low blow Sunday

Wife has agreed if things changed towards end of summer we may do a very last minute flight for a long weekend but we will just have to see how things pan out, such a shit situation for all those that were relying on our toursim on the island this sucks

in the meantime both the balearic local government as well as the central spanish government are trying to get to an agreement with the UK to exclude both the balearic as well as the canary islands from the 14-day quarantine.

the local hoteliers association said that without the UK market (which, let's be frank, if the quarantine rule persists, will be diminished a lot), lots of hotels will be forced to close in the middle of september already. in what's a very tricky and short season, this quarantine rule could genuinely fcuk up this mini summer.

I just don't get why the islands are to be punished for the spike on the mainland, our government is a joke

What Ibiza needs to do is declare immediate independence. The People's Republic of Ibiza and Formentera. Who wants to be president??

agree that it seems harsh on the islands. my guess is the reasoning is that whilst there is free movement within and across Spain, then nowhere is technically safe. FWIW a lot of people who work from home aren't likely to care too much. Certainly it wouldn't be an issue for me personally.

The pisstaking in the U.K. has started already - Mason Collective hosted a ‘social distance’ music event that looks like it descended into a full on rave / dance floor.

And Sam Divine birthday at some pub similar, absolutely rammed in etc.

Personally I’m not fussed up to the people going to these things but why they’re sticking it all over social media I don’t know

I was looking out for videos from the Social Avenue event this weekend, thought it may of gone a simular way, there's 6 weekends of that

To give a balance of perspective- I went to the pub Tropicana event in studio 338 in London. They did a great job at keeping people apart, shepherding people to the toilet etc. Definitely no dancing etc.

It can be done, although IMHO it wasn’t worth the effort on going out if you have to do it with these sort of controls in place, may as well wait until you are allowed to be more free.

there is constant traffic aross the water, people flying back and forth, goods being shipped across. I'd say it is only time before there are new outbreaks (I think there already have been in the Canaries). if people in higher risk areas know that the Baleares are exempt from international quarantine rules, won't they simply fly there first before changing flights and actually increase the risk of contagion? My guess is that is what the authorities fear
