I mean the irony here is that whilst yes Spain has seen a sharp increase in the number of infections over the last 7 days, the number of infections announced today I believe is still less than those announced here in the UK.

I wonder what's so different between Spain and Italy because Italy seems to be quite stagnant - clubbing culture and lack of discipline in places like Catalonia? Bit shit for the tourism industry though because it will probably be the final nail in travel for this year - nobody is going to risk shelling out for a holiday only to possibly find out mid-trip that they'll be expected to quarantine for 2 weeks on return.

yeah this is a blow for us. the balearics and canary islands are SAFE right now, it's stupid if they require quarantine no matter where in spain you were

I suppose theres a slight chance some crafty people would fly from Barcelona to Ibiza or Majorca and back to the UK from there as that may be cheaper than losing 2 weeks pay or income...but I doubt many would and the Canaries are too far away for games like thar anyway.

I still think theres things we don't understand about this virus, in the UK we saw no massive difference from the gatherings for VE Day celebrations, BLM marches, underground raves, reooening of Pubs, and read a BBC News article earlier that said there was only a small uplift in infections from the packed Bournemouth beaches the other week (but cafe's and non essential shops werent open then)

The towns with the biggest rates of infection in UK are those with the highest levels of ethnic minorities, and the government still don't seem clear if thats genetic, or the way they are living and working, or obeying the rules or not obeying the rules.

Im a raver and office worker not a Scientist...but seems there is a missing bit of the knowledge jigsaw somewhere.

Wonder if it's related to face to face conversations and similar close proximity. Especially in clubs or a bar where you will be talking louder than normal.
Protests you tend to be side by side and facing someone's back ?‍♂️

plus alcohol might have something to do with it and people becoming less careful with mask/closeness and surfaces they touch.

Pubs in uk are tables only and must have food iirc, which may lead to different behaviour if just beer only ??‍♂️?‍♂️

Could be a reason, being outside seems another factor, though i'd have thought in Catalonia in July people would be outside almost all day so that makes me doubt myself.

But Melbourne is in winter and they get UK style winters so you'd assume people are mainly indoors, and they are having a spike. Hope the scientists and sociologists crack the answer.

Yup very true. From the bbc story about Catalonia, there is footage of lots of groups really close together drinking in the streets with masks around their necks. But then again kicking out time in the uk you have large groups loitering similarly. The former though is for prolonged periods?‍♂️

I did read something about some people are super spreaders and shed loads of virus compared to others. Might be a part of it. Few years time they'll probably figure out the why.

Wife went out last Friday night in Newcastle and there were several pubs that started the night ok but by a bit later on had people queueing at bars and had given up on social distancing. Like with Portugal the UK government seem unable or unwilling to realise that different geographic areas will have different levels of infection. It would like the entire UK being banned from going abroad because of the lockdown in Leicester.

Indeed. 2 friends were about to fly out to Ibiza in a few days with their families and both have pulled out because of this. One is going to Croatia instead.

You do, that info is regarding non essential travel.
Gutted, I was about to book a family holiday to the canaries! I’d kind of wrote off ibiza for this year but always thought me and the Mrs could sneak a few days in at some point

If you are looking to go in Sept or Oct the spikes maybe better by then, as Spain is going back in phases it will reduce the infection rate and maybe better in a couple of month's

We just got to get thought this second wave and see what happens...

The rules are getting more complicated, so at the moment the UK government advice is that you can travel to Ibiza but you have to quarantine on your return.

Whereas for mainland Spain we are advised only to travel for essential trips and quarantine on return to the UK.

You have to quarantine from when returning from anywhere in Spain.

From the UK gov website;

“The FCO is not advising those already travelling in Spain to leave at this time. Travellers should follow the advice of the local authorities on how best to protect themselves and others, including any measures that they bring in to control the virus. If you are returning from Spain (including from the Balearics and Canaries) on or after 26 July you will be required to quarantine on your return to the UK, but the FCO is not advising you to cut short your visit.”

Damn that's f***ed up for you guys. Ibiza is doing good as far as i can see.

Amsterdam/The Netherlands numbers going up again. Many tourism. Opening up little by little means virus goes up again little by little. No Ibiza/Formentera this year for me i am afraid. Would be the first time in 15 years or so i dont go. Let's see where we are in September......
