Oh man. I totally overlooked that we could get into Ireland!

Whats wrong? Just tryin' to share some corona-love... "It aint no fun, if the homies can't have none"

So Ireland is bucking the overall EU ban?

Here on my little islands, we cannot ban US Citizens (as a US territory) but we are requiring a negative covid test within 3 days of travel, presented upon entry.

After Covid-19 is over, I think I'll head to Magaluf to see what's it all about ?

I have been to El Arenal in August and didn't find it that bad (except for the water being too shallow and for sunloungers collected around 7pm - WTF?). No idea where the hordes of loud, bad behaving drunken German tourists were hiding...

In Italy almost all open air clubs are open... Just seen Next week there will be Sven, Bob Sinclar, Jamie Jones in Riccione... Honestly I think it's not safe, let's see...

Rates are way down in Italy. The virus is not very harmful to people in the age range who go to these parties. The risk is if they infect older, at-risk people, but I think you have to let people live a little and if rates start going up again, then you pump the breaks.

here in spain it seems the number of asymptomatic positives and/or people that have it really mild only is getting bigger every week. is that a general trend globally and does it mean the virus is losing a bit of its force? or is it simply because mainly younger people get it currently compared to march/april where it was all the elder people that caught it?

question for @Hurr1cane and any other qualified people in that field.

Probably an “all of the above” type situation. Testing is far better than in the spring, so we are catching people who weren’t able to get a test in the past. Treatment protocols seem to be advancing. Younger people being infected. Vitamin D levels increase due to sun exposure in the summer.

In the US cases are up, but the majority of those cases are people under 50. So a lot more mild symptoms or asymptomatic. Big reason why death rates are down (along with better treatment compared to 2-3 months ago).

They aren't, though. The 7-day rolling average (for the whole of the States) is going up again, considerably so.
Florida had it's worst day for deaths yesterday, for example. Texas, the last three days have been the worst. Of course some states are doing very well, but overall the whole country the figures are looking awful.

an update as to how things look like in spain:

in barcelona, where clubs could open (socially distanced), they have to go two steps back now because of spikes. they don't originate from clubs, but as a result, clubs as well as lots of other places where people meet have to shut again (gyms for example and in bars, the actual bar is a no-go zone again and it's just table service). I repeat in this case it wasn't the nightlife that was responsible for the spikes. aragón (which is next to catalonia) and catalonia are currently the two problem areas in spain, the main problem is from workers active in fruit picking areas - a lot of those people live in very simple (or shall I say poor) conditions and there were lots of infections in those areas. they got detected late (something the catalan government has admitted now) and it's turning into a real issue now as it suddenly has started to hit barcelona again.

down in andalucía there's a small blip that did originate in a nightclub. 5 positives so far and 200 tests done out of 400 people in the club (more are being done now).

balearics are still looking good and I've gotta say that by now I'd rather keep the nightlife shut this summer than to risk losing the tourism season as such. I'm not saying the nightlife couldn't be done in a safe way, but all over europe we're seeing it really doesn't take much to get blips and spikes and if they're not being detected rapidly enough and the authorities act decisively it turns into a huge problem quickly. I don't know about you, but I for one really don't feel like doing another stay at home lockdown again.

Yeah and the fact a lot of hospital admissions (and near capacity) isn't great. Even if, thankfully, people are not dying as much. They still got a horrible time of recovery ?
