Massive party coming out of the "affordable houses" in the village we are all supposed to be supporting the proliferation of tonight. They're mostly young or alcoholics in there. Didn't help that the Parish Council clerk's hubby had a birthday on VE day and they set an example encouraging street partying yesterday. It's just been used as an excuse to let it all go and as usual once the beers get cracked you can forget about social responsibility.

They need to ban outdoor drinking outright if they want to ease restrictions on people being outside more. It doesn't take a genius to link A to B ? I think South Africa got it right banning all alcohol sales throughout the lockdown. Both saves people from themselves and averts the source of a whole load of trouble.
I think there's something to be said for the banning of outdoor drinking (parks etc) but overall ban on alcohol sales would probably lead to more of a revolt on restrictions. This is the one thing they have got right imo, understanding the base, even though they are doing them over....

definitely they have done the right thing by not having an alcohol ban during all this, imagine how absolutely fed up people would be by now if they couldn't unwind in their gardens or whatever with some of their favourite tipples and unlike Spain / Italy the Police here are far too soft to handle any sort of mass public backlash / kick off's

even though drink is leading to some loosing sight of the required distancing measures its still better than the other side of the coin

Just watched this article

Which is what some have mentioned as a solution to international travel/holidays.

However guy running Vienna airport said it's not scalable for the normal 100k+ passengers they normally would have, but good for the very low numbers they have currently. (Test also takes around 3 hours)

Like how the uk gov have leaked the announcement tonight over changes to lockdown to the press in the last few days.

The new phrase "Stay Alert - Control the Virus - Save Lives", what could possibly go wrong!
It’s beyond believe that the UK, which is still a few weeks behind Spain and France is reducing measures. We should be tightening them, as posts above show, some members of the population have failed to understand the guidance. I’d start with upping the fines to say £1k, that would make people think twice and enforce the rules everywhere. The first few weeks of lockdown the police were everywhere, but I’ve barely seen them since.

I think the scientists are probably putting their heads in the hands, but uk gov decided to relax things, get economy going and see what happens.

I don't think we'll have a massive second spike, but get stuck in a staccato type up and down, never really getting new daily cases below 1000. ?‍♂️?

Also predict usa in a few months will hit 200k deaths and then carry on going up.

OK, I'm "Staying Alert".

Now, Boris, what am I looking for, how will I know when I've found it and then what do I do with it?

Just a hint, Boris, the virus is invisible, and can hide away inside people and they don't even know. In the meantime I'll juts pop down to A+E as my head's swollen with continually banging it against a wall.

If there was ever the time for Boris to actually show some leadership it is now, but he won't. Our faux lockdown hasn't worked and the scenes in parks yesterday and across VE day were disgraceful. Instead of easing, use the weekends pictures as a vindication to introduce a hard lock down for 2 weeks. No going out apart from shops or within 1 mile of home, once per day. Increase fines and actually fine people. Close the parks. Cite the wartime spirit, they lasted 6 years I'm asking you to stay home for 2 weeks and have a nighttime curfew. Try and catch up the damage that has been done and we would hopefully be in a better position.

Wonder how many of those flouting the rules have actually lost someone to covid19.

Also around 200k have tested positive for it, if x10 to get rough count of those who've got or had it, still only around 2 million, so around 3% or so.

Even if rounding that up to 5% or even 10%, still a hell of a lot of people still vulnerable to get infected.

Edit; my 29yr old friend has now been sent back home as he is on the up curve now of recovery. He said it is the scariest thing he has ever experienced in his life. And trust me, he's done some pretty stupid things in his life ? (I had to rescue him a few years ago in blizzards when he decided to try and walk home from a night out. Was suffering from hypothermia and completely incoherent ?‍♂️?)

I think that's what they want but cant say so. Economy going and hospitals coping

Yeah I guess. Its unfortunately has to be at some point if we are pragmatic, the thing I'm not happy about is the shambolic way it's been done/announced without decent clear instructions etc.

Eg, how about time zoning like in Spain so those more vulnerable (but not sheltered) can have specific times, and the no shits given mouth breathers can have their time slots ?‍♂️.

Or been clearer details for employers to know what they should do. I mean back in an office, an enclosed space usually with air con is gonna be little point in having every other desk empty for "social distancing". What happens if someone is infected, spreads it to others and some of them die? Breach of health and safety and potential prosecution?

Personally I think if you can wfh the gov will ask you to continue to do so. Most likely through to next year past seasonal flu? (edit: or until vaccine or therapeutics)

Also prof Witty has said a second wave could be far worse for uk if it coincides with winter flu. Let's hope those vaccines in trials work, or at least give some protection.

There is a nagging thought in the back of my mind telling me that I'm forgetting about the economy. You see, I have left the workforce so that I can do some things at school for a rather extended period. Money hasn't been an issue throughout and the financial aid makes it incredibly affordable to do this. But lately I've come to realize that others don't have the same luxury. Their jobs have given out and their money has dried up.

So while for me not much has changed, for them it's detrimental that we reopen the economy. That said, the virus will surely spread and kill off millions of us if this isn't done with the utmost care and attention to detail.

I don't actually mind quarantine/lockdown/stay-at-home. It's given me new resolve to drive less frequently. I hardly go out except for when I get take out - the restaurants are still open for that, and we're encouraged to feed the economy in any ways we can. So I have saved billions on gas. The main difference is that classes (I have two this summer & three coming up in fall) have migrated to an online format. I'm an online kind of person so that hasn't been much of a challenge. I just have to remind myself that for some this is anything but easy. I get so down about the protesters and rhetoric, but I guess they have a reason to be angry. Just not any reason to ignore the social distancing measures.
