They just need to enforce the rules that exist no need to lock people in their houses especially in rural areas. But there is no backup in UK and zero respect for authority. Basically, unless the little twats with their mates in the park know they can be given a good kicking by the cops (instead of stealing the cop's bike and taunting him on social media) they won't do as they are told. That's the root of the issue. I don't think the Spanish model is right and I wouldn't have abided by such rules personally if someone had tried to impose that regime on me as a "sensible" citizen - would have made a mission of getting away with getting round the rules, so that's not the right way either !!

the Spanish regime seemed excessively harsh at the time but their future is much brighter than ours as it stands. people don’t tend to risk going to see their mates for a party when the potential fine is €600 rather than 60 quid...

In the main Brits are a nation of lower than average intelligence. It’s not their/our fault, it’s simply that the inequality in education attainment means so many people are born into disadvantage and lack the ability to think independently. Unfortunately when there’s a national crisis like this the average Brit just doesn’t understand the point of the rules and the basics of scientific reasoning is completely alien.

The media really doesn’t help either, today it was non stop VE Day, which really isn’t in the context of what’s going on, important in the slightest. My view is instead of easing the UK lockdown, it needs to be increased. A clear message of something like one trip out per day. Otherwise, it’s just going to drag on longer while other European countries improve quicker.

We also have an issue with enforcement. I recently saw a protest sign (on the web... I don't attend protest events) calling the governor of California "boy" or some kind of disrespectful taunt. It said "suck it" and then called him "f*** boy" or some juvenile thing.

Anyway, we have free speech and I feel like in this case it's a burden. I wish someone would smack the smirk off that guy and cart him off to be re-educated. :D

Seems like we in the UK might be allowed to travel as long as we are in confinement for two weeks after we return (press speculation). Seeing as we are gonna be confined anyway, what's to lose? And how can they check up on you, ring in the middle of the night? Send the boys round??

I think endless addiction to social media and the drivel punted out on it is much much more to blame for stupidity than the general level of education. I cannot agree than the average Brit is more stupid than the average citizen of most other European countries, sadly, there is just a very selfish, generally disrespectful and ageist culture here.

After 6 weeks of non-stop Coronavirus bombardment including endless dumbed down "interviews" on the mainstream news I think this is perhaps the most ridiculous thing I have read all week. Sorry. Utter nonsense. In fact, a perfect demonstration of how obsessed with their own "problems" younger generations have become. History is not wiped off the slate of relevance because we happen to be experiencing Coronavirus at this current point in time to the extent that one single day of remembrance is too much. Actually almost speechless !!!

It depends what you mean by their future being much brighter than ours. Consider the incoming economic impact and the relative effects they are likely to experience. All this will likely equalize in a few months' time in terms of freedom of life going forward, in the overall scheme of things it's not a long time.

Going on today not far from me, people just aren't getting it?‍♂️
You'd think with the 4th highest rate of infection in the country and being twice as likely to die of coronavirus compared to the rest of the country-the good people of Boro would get it.

Gotta be honest my wife and I were slightly disappointed last night that our road seemed to be one of the only ones in the area without a social distancing VE Street party. On reflection I'm happy we didn't because as the night wore on there's no way people werent closer and sharing facilities in houses.

Was happening up and down the country. Even the bbc news was live from a party where the street was heaving with people none of this ‘social distancing’ at all

Whats the point in this half arsed lockdown?

I know yeah, its a shame seen a lot of people online throwing shade at Grove Hill but there is still a lot of down to earth people on the estate its just shame the majority spoil it for others. Woodville Av is like the wild wild west aha but still there was some neighbours that didn't take part and the police wont respond to calls for there that's a given

funny thing is in the middle of that Makina street party was a massive car sized banner saying NHS (shakes head)

One of the most stupid replies I've ever seen on this forum, give your head a wobble you complete idiot.

Kent Kid - So you think that c. 40% of all 16 year olds in the UK failing to get 5 A-C GCSEs is a successful education system?

Inequality in British education:

Consider the inequity in that too, i.e. the postcode school lottery.

I’m not arguing Brits are in anyway less able to learn, it’s simply we are one (the most inequitable country) in Europe. Sadly when students leave school without decent educations they grow up into a population that have shown a lack of judgement when given guidance on how to behave. Just go to any London park and you’ll see that in action.

Bit depressing reading this thread this morning guys. Is it really that bad out there? Maybe I'm lucky where I am, but I can count the strangers I've seen flouting lockdown on one hand.

I hope this isn't another instance of our anger being directed at the wrong people? It's clear to me our delightful press has doubled efforts in recently weeks to get up to their old tricks and convince people that it's the general public and not our government that are at fault

Front page: END LOCKDOWN NOW
Pages 4-10: LOOK AT THESE IDIOTS BREAKING RULES

Couldn't make it up

They've always printed this shit. They're just printing even more now because nobody is buying them at the moment

As for those videos you see on social media... my hypocrisy senses aren't just tingling, I've gone into toxic shock.

"Look at all these people outside" taken by somebody outside!!

Nothing more than click bait poison designed to make you angry and thus control you. Seems like it's working. If that upsets you, I suggest to not go looking for this content.

There is a strong front of holier than thou creeping in. Everybody should just stick in their own lane and not worry about why Jane & Jack Doe are out. Or speculate who they might live with. It doesn't serve any good purpose

If you're looking for somebody to point the finger at, blame your government, who still aren't so much as advising new arrivals to self-isolate upon entry to our country, let alone making it compulsory. Blame your government, whose officials are flagrantly ignoring their own protocol. Blame your government, for genuinely trying to implement herd immunity as the strategy before pulling a massive U-turn. Blame your government for mixed messages. Blame your government for the PPE debacle. Blame your government for allowing Cheltenham Festival to go ahead and to allow pandemic-ravished Madrid to fly thousands of supporters into Liverpool

Blame your government.

Joe Average on the street might not be brightest spark, but he's a lamb to the slaughter of the incompetants running the show

You could argue some of the most educated people in the country (our MPs) have caused a lot of the problems with mixed messages and not following their own advice

Sticking in your own lane is fine until you've got to used shared spaces like supermarkets etc. One person not giving a shit can spread it to a lot of people and off we go again.

Maybe have timed slots a bit like Spain has but for those wanting to properly observe rules and those that don't. Although in practise that would be bad for supermarket workers.

I think one problem is a lot of dimwits think seeing family in different households is fine.i see a lot of it and them hugging each other on arrival and leaving.?‍♂️

Maybe it's a fault with our evolution, fear only works for a short period after that people get numb to it. Unless of course it affects them directly, but then it's too late.

As if things weren't bad enough, now Orangeface White-eyes has come up with another belter; CV will go away all on it's own, no need for a vaccine.

I want to feel sorry for America/ns, I really do, but you put this moron into power. Whatever came over you??

And, er, the scientific advisors too!! We're not only in the middle of a pandemic, we're in the middle of a shit-show.

Technically he is correct, just the slight omission that millions will die until that point ?

Also scandalous all the redacting the uk government has done on the SAGE docs that have been released.

ibiza thread updated.

another good day for numbers here on the balearics and especially in ibiza with no new cases.

in the morning during our 'sport/walk slot', I took a stroll along playa d'en bossa and, walking along the beach, I passed by ushuaïa. it hit me that today, it would have been the kick-off of the season with ushuaïa, hï and also amnesia having their opening parties...
