good luck on that. Bolsonaro has accelerated decimation of the amazon to put more burgers on our trays which people eat cos they're dirt cheap.

I would love to see everything get more green, more ethically conscious, but the problem is it's a middle-class indulgence. there's billions of people who rely on cheap shit to survive. when I was in Hackney there were loads of dodgy chicken diners where you can still get a full meal for £2

weaning people off meat is a big debating point. I personally would rather die than not eat meat, one of the few guaranteed pleasures in life (although the almost carbon-copy synthetic stuff currently getting trialled might be an eventual solution)
Yes good luck...
Yesterday they re-open the take away in a few McDonald's around Paris after 6 weeks of lockdown...
People were queueing for 3 hours to eat that shit.

I'm not so sure on the 'fast'.... it will still take a while until we're in the clear. and as I said, I'm a little worried some places open too early and will then get punished for it again. we'll have to see.

With fast I mean that many nations see declining deaths and new cases. Things are returning to normal in some places that got hit hard before such as China and Korea. Their curves lowered and flatlined and while the virus still exists its not really a big issue any longer. Airlines are starting to increase people ride the subway and such. Korea is very interesting since its not really a closed country at all on the inside.

Most will open gradually. I mean even Italy will start to slowly open things in only two weeks. Nations in the Eastern med are looking into solutions to open tourism for the summer. Thierry Bretton and the EU-commission wants to see things opening up in the summer. They did somewhat on a turnaround regarding this and its because of the curves we see now.

Yeah, things are terrible especially in some nations and parts of Europe but in say 2 months things will look a lot different. Ibiza has a massive advantage with its different venues, creative people and the season which could be delayed even until August and reach until deeply in October.

we shall see - I obviously hope you are right.

Not sure we're seeing this here in the Netherlands on a large scale too but I've read some stuff about his.
Indeed socio-economic, culture, language barrier (i.e. they don't understand the measures). There was a report here about entire neighbourhoods with Turkish-Dutch people that only watch certain Turkish television channels and they were given misleading information about the virus and what to do about it. So perhaps that happens in different cultures too.
On the other hand though...muslims have always practicioned a lot of hygiene rules we now embrace because of Covid, wash hands regularly, take off your shoes etc.
I was talking to my mother about this. We live in area with high population of people from South Asia (mainly Pakistan). When discussing the Thursday night clap for NHS my mother was surprised that none of her neighbours were out, I suggested it may have been because in my experience many of them broadcast television from 'home'. Possibly not getting the same local content.

I've only been to supermarket a day before the lockdown and out of everyone there, people from that community were respecting the social distancing advice and wearing basic PPE more than others.

I'm sure after the virus there will be detailed analysis of area such as this.

Serious question, do you know why the UK government can only confirm 27 NHS staff deaths and the Nursing platform says it's 100?
My heart goes out to the healthcare workers. It looks like the same situation in Italy where healthcare workers were not properly protected when the first wave of hospitalizations hit. There was an investigation earlier about the amount of decease particles infecting you having an impact on how bad the effects are. I can imagine if you are in close proximity of patients like a nurse is you'll get way sicker than walking in someone's airdroplets in the supermarket. Stay safe!
Because the government is using the verified Office of National Statistics’ data, where the media isn’t. ONS data should cross check from death certificates and these take ages, as the require a coroner etc. The profession of the deceased also needs to be checked and this isn’t quick either. Clearly the media is bypassing this. While I have some sympathy with the government wanting to do things properly, they’re far too slow.

(UK) A death isn't officially recorded until it's registered with the local authorities, signed and the "real" death certificate given out. This, at best, takes about four working days, and can be months if a coroner needs an enquiry. So someone dying today (Weds - it IS Weds??) might not be officially recorded until Tuesday next week.
Between those times the hospital or doctors give a certificate out which has to be taken to the registar (usually town hall) to get that final DC.

ibiza thread updated. every day that passes without any newly detected case and without any casualties on our island is a good day. don't get me wrong, I'm completely aware there must be lots of asymptomatic cases that are never being detected, but in the last 24hrs they did nearly 1400 tests on the whole of the balearic islands and we've only got 28 newly detected cases on the archipelago and that gives hope.

In your post on the other thread you mentioned surgical masks going to pharmacies eventually, for the public.
Does anyone know if these masks can be washed/steralised and re-used, or are they all to be disposed after use?
Thinking if it's the latter, then that could be an awful lot of CV hanging around people's bins?

The lowering death rate ( close to 0 ) means that there are not so much unidentified cases.
If it goes like this , there will be 80 Percent of
normal life back in some weeks in ibz.
majorca a little bit longer.
Wish they would do the same strict measures in germany.

that does not mean tourism can start again.

To show accumulated numbers makes less sense than to show the active ones. This is the most urgent one.
Not nice : The slow lowering of the active ones. Seems to last long if you are healed.

You are right and there are guidelines on how to dispose of this waste.
Should be sealed in a plastic bag etc

And hopefully the materials can be recycled. A lot of plastic gloves just blowing around supermarket car parks at the moment. ?

They have opened some beaches to walkers around here (7 miles away or so to the ocean) and I'm skeptical. I feel like it's far too soon.

The leadership in my country is mixed on whether or not to open the economy on shaky ground... It's often partisan, with one party wanting to open and the other wanting to rely on expert analysis.

I feel the pain of not having an economy open for business though. The other day I cut my own hair for the third time since shutdown. My mom had to help me with the long part on top. I'm not sure how to do that by myself.

Clippers, guard off, shortest cut all over. ;) I've not bothered cutting my hair for ages now. When you're not mixing with other people, no real point.
