Don’t agree with everything elrowlovers says I have to admit, and you could be right having perspective. Just think people are waiting to jump on him now with every comment he makes thats slightly off the mood at the moment, and teeing him up for a long winded to and throw argument which just gets boring and very negative.

He's cool, he takes the heat off me when I call it Chinese Flu or post links to the Bild etc

I've found my peace with Elrowlover, there is discussion that needs having. As I've said we are barely at the end of the beginning, tough choices lie ahead

On other forums there are people still going 'it's only the flu' etc so I love the sensible conversation here. In fact the forum is one of my staples of the day

if that was one option, which meant the vulnerable are safe self isolating still and economies were saved sooner then I don't see the problem tbh if there's a way not everyone / every country has to suffer then its worth a shot surely

a lot of people will be feeling there is no point to life if they become homeless or have their businesses ran into the ground
The problem is you cant really isolate older people, especially in care homes and hospitals. If its rampant in society they will get it.

Thanks for that bit of support @gutsy @Hally and @AntonioGeordio
I think it's really nice to read that while my words may have sounded blunt before, it's a discussion that needs having indeed :)

And @Tourist to answer your question...being a father of two the ban of events was definitely not the first thing that got my attention in this press conference. I was really happy my kids can go to school again, although it's only for half a week. But yeah since this is the Ibiza forum where we talk about European festivals and events too so it was the first thing I thought about sharing with you all. After all...in the Netherlands we have Awakenings festival and MysteryLand that are really popular with tourists too. And the slap in the face comment...I'm not an organizer myself, but I know a lot of people that are in the industry. It's a really tough time for them and not all will survive this crisis.
Lastly, when I say it's a slap in the face for the organizers ...that doesn't mean I don't understand these measures. Do I prefer festivals or other mass events over new outbreaks and people dying? No. But am I still allowed to feel sad there will no be festival summer at all this year. Yes.

I've just had a friend and colleague admitted, very, very ill. Still pining for my trips to Ibiza

paints a grim picture this article

Hate to say it but wild horses wouldn't get me into a club or indoor venue where a waiter or barman might serve me this Summer even if it was allowed. The gamble and potential consequences would always be in my mind and that wouldn't make for any sort of relaxed enjoyment. I was entered into the Lundy Island Half Marathon here that has been delayed until September and I have asked to defer that until next Summer. Even being on a boat with other people to get there or lining up on a start line with 200 other people is going to be a no-no for me for many months.

I think maybe a softer lockdown has meant voluntary choices to give up parts of life are much easier to accept. Perhaps the harder the lockdown is the stronger the desire to resume risky activities. I know being denied even a decent shop in Africa for months at a time made me go berzerk when I could access one again !!!

I just get a new pair of trainers every year, but then relegate them to my running shoes.

I've most of my clothes and over 200 pairs of trainers, most of which I've never worn, locked up in a house I likely won't see for months. I've still got more than enough and miss very little. It really rams home the folly of material possessions and buying stuff you really don't need !! Can't be arsed with the hasstle of selling it either - valuable stuff attracts fraudsters and thieves. The rest has just lined the pockets of a load of big companies in the main.

Masks seems to be very effective. We need urgently much more Fffp 2 and ffp3 masks for the whole people. That will be a little game changer.
Should be possible to produce much more of them. I have a ffp3 Bought it 1 year ago for car working and so on. Second hand shop , original packed , 2 Euros . No Fake , its original
Didnt know was ffp3 was. Today I know ...

Test the elastic - it degrades and you probably find it snaps when you try to put them on if they are old !! The thing with FFP2/FFP3 is that after about a day of use you need to change the filter or throw them away and buy a new one. I have about 10 FFP3 along with goggles, 3 face shields and a small number of coveralls in case someone in the house gets very sick. But to wear these things everyday for months is a pipedream. Plus they cost about £10 each now - or did until it was basically impossible to buy any from a reliable supplier of genuine products.

However horrible things are, and i do think the situation is slowly but surely improving. I can't help but think how lucky we are this virus didn't hit in the middle of Summer.
Ibiza would literally of become a reservoir for covid, with the worst affected nations among its biggest visitors.
I can't even imagine the logistics of trying to quarantine and get people off the island. No doubt the local residents would have suffered a huge amount of deaths also.
The island and its inhabitants hugely dodged a bullet, purely by luck.

Is this your part of the country mate?

I used to train at Chesil Beach near Weymouth years ago, and then get up to Barnstaple (Chiv) to see my buddys that were based up there. Great part of the country and mega on the piss.

That trail race looks awesome by the way ?‍♂️

Apologies for the thread drift ?

That's a very good point actually, would be a total nightmare if this happened mid summer with the amount of people travelling around Europe!

I know there's never a convenient time to have a pandemic, but might of been less damaging (economy wise) if it started late summer. We could of just buckled down for the winter and watched a few films etc

I'm in South Devon a short run from the coast where the Puretrail 'Race the Tide' event is held. I actually did a double low tide estuary crossing and part of that route on Sunday - it's mint and only 2 people seen about 500m away so really can't complain ? Took the gopro - I'll get round to doing a vid edit one of these days ! Lockdown doesn't really affect much round here apart from getting rid of the tourists ?

I do like running on Exmoor coast and that Lundy race is a bit special - sold out in 20 minutes and a waiting list as long as your arm so I'm mega disappointed about not dong it. They offered September or 25% cancellation fee so I've appealed to them to be reasonable and give me a guaranteed place next year. It's not like they can't fill the place at full price !!!
