The main problem with festivals, holidays, etc is travel restrictions too. France look like they’ll only let Schengen flights in when they start to relax - even BA who still had daily flights to CDG have seen this coming and cancelled them all until end of May.

I had flights to NY booked beginning of May, BA were still operating 2 a day, Sod’s law was one of mine - but they’ve cut that back and cancelled it and now scheduled 1 of it.

Spain we’ve seen their thoughts, so impossible to organise anything like a festival or events if you have no idea who can or can’t come, guest or artist wise

This is really horrible.

Though (I'll say it again) Western farming practices also need to be looked at. If you can feel sorry for dogs and cats in those tiny cages, then why not chickens? Across the board, we need to look at eating less meat and treating animals in the system in a much better way!

If this is true like many have already suspected then the figures could be way way off
Must be true if Karen and Bob on Facebook say it is.

Who is 'they' and why do they want to 'keep us all in a panic'?
In fact don't answer because wev seen enough shite.
*this is not a pop at you

It's crazy the amount of conspiracy bullshit doing the rounds. From blaming 5G to there is no virus its all a hoax.
Kind of gives us a snapshot of how many of the population actually believe what Facebook tells them. Coupled with the amount of people who read the Sun as their source of information on what's going on it world, you can see how it's hard for governments to get through to people how severe this is.
The USA being a prime example at the moment.

No I get where your coming from it is just two randoms on fb, just seems mind blowing why people would make that up.. seems to be normal people going by their profiles who have apparently lost someone, if they are both infact telling some kind of truth then it would back up what people have thought about the stats being inaccurate that's all

Hardly some kind of mad conspiracy on my behalf, just something to think about when people are concentrating purely on statistics

Hate to say it but wild horses wouldn't get me into a club or indoor venue where a waiter or barman might serve me this Summer even if it was allowed. The gamble and potential consequences would always be in my mind and that wouldn't make for any sort of relaxed enjoyment.

While I respect and understand everyone's take on this.....once things return to normal-ish I hope fear will not win and we will all party together to save nightlife, shops, culture etc.

100 NHS staff dead
Serious question, do you know why the UK government can only confirm 27 NHS staff deaths and the Nursing platform says it's 100?
My heart goes out to the healthcare workers. It looks like the same situation in Italy where healthcare workers were not properly protected when the first wave of hospitalizations hit. There was an investigation earlier about the amount of decease particles infecting you having an impact on how bad the effects are. I can imagine if you are in close proximity of patients like a nurse is you'll get way sicker than walking in someone's airdroplets in the supermarket. Stay safe!

I'm on the fence about this. I agree we should get together to get the economy going, but I totally understand that for a while, lots of people will be apprehensive about it. and as said many times, maybe not so much for themselves, but because they might catch it, stay asymptomatic and transmit it to their parents or similar.

I understand that point of view too. It's a dilemma.
And while it sounds really harsh and dystopian...it seems like there's growning support in the Netherlands for a transition strategy where the younger generation will get separated from the older generation for a longer period of time...perhaps even until there's a vaccine. Both of our national news discussion programs had experts from the crisisteam talking about this possibility yesterday. If there's a general consensus you don't visit your parents / grandparents or you only rarely visit them with enough social distancing / face masks / gloves etc until there's a vaccine...that younger generation can help save the economy without flooding the healthcare capacity.

good luck on that. Bolsonaro has accelerated decimation of the amazon to put more burgers on our trays which people eat cos they're dirt cheap.

I would love to see everything get more green, more ethically conscious, but the problem is it's a middle-class indulgence. there's billions of people who rely on cheap shit to survive. when I was in Hackney there were loads of dodgy chicken diners where you can still get a full meal for £2

weaning people off meat is a big debating point. I personally would rather die than not eat meat, one of the few guaranteed pleasures in life (although the almost carbon-copy synthetic stuff currently getting trialled might be an eventual solution)

No idea, I know the government have been behind on the figures all along

We are told that getting a large amount of virus can lead to worse outcomes, would explain a lot of GPs getting hit hard

The best way to see how many people have really died is comparitive deaths (because of the died with coronavirus/ died coronavirus issue). Last week 8000 more people died than you would expect for this week in April, very strongly suggesting coronavirus is actually killing more people than we thought it was (most likely care home deaths primarily)

The disproportionate BAME death rates we are seeing in the UK - is there a similar pattern in other countries?
I would guess it being related to socio-economic factors and/or larger households

Oh I will when I am allowed!

I will be partying hard

Whenever I am allowed will probably be when I get over my fear as will be a good few months away before we can party again

People don't really need meat to survive; in fact, we'd be healthier not eating it. IMO we need to get to the point with meat where it's seen as a treat. Those cheap chicken dinners contribute to a load of health issues; I can't help but think they are the lazy solution to feeding poorer people. Also, livestock farming accelerates climate change. I enjoy eating meat, but generally only have it now 3x a week (which is still probably too often). I have been eating loads more cheese and eggs recently for lunch; need to get on with making those bean soups... And back to buying oat milk.

Not sure we're seeing this here in the Netherlands on a large scale too but I've read some stuff about his.
Indeed socio-economic, culture, language barrier (i.e. they don't understand the measures). There was a report here about entire neighbourhoods with Turkish-Dutch people that only watch certain Turkish television channels and they were given misleading information about the virus and what to do about it. So perhaps that happens in different cultures too.
On the other hand though...muslims have always practicioned a lot of hygiene rules we now embrace because of Covid, wash hands regularly, take off your shoes etc.

in the UK (+ New York too) hassidic jews and muslims getting hit hard because usually big families living together. living in stamford hill, it wasn't uncommon to see hassidic families with 8 or 9 kids. realising that there simply wasn't enough room to house everyone, some of that community have even starting relocating en masse to randomly designated depopulated areas like Canvey Island! Population growth is a massive problem, because it isn't regulated (I mean how?! lol) and people want to cluster in their own insular communities in cities. hence timebomb...
