the care homes are likely to be badly hit
Thanks for the insights! There will be over reporting in hospitals but there are clearly very large numbers dying directly because of coronavirus. I've worked with older people for 25 years and the path of this condition is pretty distinct. Another factor is out of these a good proportion were already very near the end of life. With these though it's a horrible way to die, especially separated from loved ones.
My guess is there will be under reporting so far in the community, the care homes are likely to be badly hit
As I said the comparative deaths will give the truest picture
My situation is stable, God willing. But I'm concerned that the fallout from this; the economy, is going to bring tragedy. I read something today that said the situation in the United States will be worse than it was in the financial meltdown of 2008 (don't know if anybody remembers/we had mass lay-offs and lots of people went broke/were homeless). To me, it sounds like people are going to lose their homes, which worries me greatly.
If this happens in Europe we will have a lot of mighty extremist partys
I think we can do better if some people are less greedy. We need less air and car travel, we need to less eat meat, we need to ditch fast fashion and silly over consumption fantasies... We need to find a different way of valuing people, where nurses are worth more than bankers and footballers. That's just for starters.
After seeing how countries deal with cruises ships that are in their territory during a pandemic...I will skip cruise ships for a while ;-)For some of us, less air travel requires making it easier for Americans to relocate and find work in the EU. My only other option for getting to Ibiza is a looong cruise, and that's not looking to be a very eco-friendly or health-friendly choice either.

I think the change now is - and please correct me if I'm wrong - you can get an ultra-fast direct train from Paris to Barcelona whereas 10 years ago you couldn't (??); with a fast ferry now, you could do Paris - Ibiza within the day. Much more civilised than flying in a tin can restricted to a toothbrush and a bit of lippy and two hours of security and immigration to enjoy! Anyhow, if after CV the cost - and tax - of flights goes astronomical then a fast ferry might be profitable. It used to be a fast ferry from Barcelona maybe 10 years ago, I used it twice, 4h to ibiza.
They stopped it quickly, it was not enough profitable for the company.
Make that permanently for me. I've a pal who keeps trying to persuade me to go on a cruise, and I just keep saying no. Rather just stay in a hotel and walk into the old town at night, thank you very much; never mind the health issues. After seeing how countries deal with cruises ships that are in their territory during a pandemic...I will skip cruise ships for a while ;-)
A lot of abuse will be hidden. Unless there's a definite plan to let us out, it's just going to get worse out of pure frustration. This is a worrying story.

Massive respect to you.Birmingham, UK. No problems at all with PPE, in fact the whole hospital system seems to be holding up remarkably well. Feared scenes akin to Northern Italy but hasnt been like that at all.
I think as regards PPE it's the care home sector who are suffering sadly (with staff already working with terrible pay and conditions). Social care is a real stain on the UK, we should be ashamed we let down our older generation as we do)
Very interesting all the countries will learn from germany on how it goesGermany easing restrictions -
Public mass events banned until End of August
Vast majority of retailers to open again Monday
Masks recommended in public space
Schools to start opening again in stages from May 4, presumably with the older classes resuming first
Be interesting to see how this goes.
