Not saying we've seen this before, but I think it's not necessary we get the images from the IC's on tv, socials and now even here in the forum. Healthcare workers will always want to save that patient before them, that's what they've signed up for and it's admirable. I agree they should be respected for that and valued way better. But it should not be used to scare the public.
The problem is, if you don't scare the public, there is - unfortunately - a vast number of people who will simply get bored of the situation and not care anymore about social distancing. "This has been going on for weeks now, I haven't got anything, can't be that bad..."
And I'm not saying the media should blow this completely out of proportion, but a healthy dose of constant reality checking to keep the people on edge just a little bit might go a long way in saving a lot of lives.
Unfortunately, most of us nowadays are just wired that way. And I'm including myself in that category by the way (social media and the news cycle are to blame mostly).

By the way, I found an interesting article, don't know if this has been posted on here before, on how to apply Kessler's 5 stages of grief to the Corona-Virus situation:

1. Denial - "This virus won't affect us."
2. Anger - "You're making me stay home and taking away my activities."
3. Bargaining - "Okay, if I social distance for two weeks everything will be better, right?"
4. Sadness - "I don't know when this will end."
5. Acceptance - "This is happening; I have to figure out how to proceed."

Personally, I definitely went through stages 1-3. Can't decide if I'm between 3 and 4 or 4 and 5. Some sadness is definitely in there. I think due to the fact that the whole situation is still so uncertain, it's hard to come to acceptance as no one knows what the hell we actually have to accept.

I think it helps to keep this in mind, also when reading people's comments on here. As many of us are from different countries where this situation is in different stages and has been going on for different lengths of time, a lot of us are in different stages.

Edit:
Here is the link to the article/interview:

How's PPE situation for you and where are you based?

Birmingham, UK. No problems at all with PPE, in fact the whole hospital system seems to be holding up remarkably well. Feared scenes akin to Northern Italy but hasnt been like that at all.

I think as regards PPE it's the care home sector who are suffering sadly (with staff already working with terrible pay and conditions). Social care is a real stain on the UK, we should be ashamed we let down our older generation as we do)

U in Birmingham, what hospital? I am from Birmingham.

Keep up the good work you are doing!

The deaths that are been recorded some are not actually dying from cov-19 is that right? They are lumping all the deaths together.

Are they testing all the people that have died for the virus? Or are tests being done before?

Yeah, absolutely. My dad's in a care home & many of those staff work very hard for very little. There also isn't all the funding & services required to accommodate difficult cases (like my dad!).

There is no fast ferry from Barcelona unfortunately.
Only from Dénia and a few ones from Valencia.
From Barcelona it's always 9 hours of ferry.
Yes I know, that's part of the plan I'd like, that fast ferry. Otherwise the trip needs two overnights (for me from Manchester).

maybe we'll still get some clubbing this year? a very optimistic outlook I know, but...

Yes, its deaths with rather than of. The statistics are a bit of a mess really, down the line I think l excess deaths compared to previous years will give a clearer picture. That wont just be people who had coronavirus but those who died because of it on other ways, not accessing healthcare, suicide etc. I think those numbers will be pretty substantial sadly[/QUOTE]

That would be good if true....

I dont fancy clubbing in a face mask and I will probably have a high temperature due to the supplies I have taken before entering lol

I dont see how that can work though as social distancing defo will be hard to maintain when drunk

If the clubs are going to use heat sensors as screening the bar would have to be very high or it'll be red lighting everyone! :)

And yes social distancing in clubs wont work. Even with smaller crowds (either imposed or lack of demand) when a banger comes on its natural instinct to jump around or hug the people your with.

Remember some of those other supplies (as well as lack of sleep) can affect your immune system and leave you more open to catching stuff.

I'm glad someone is saying this too. And I remember @james has mentioned something along these lines too a few pages back.
We should be very wary of numbers right now, because worldwide they are registering people dying WITH the virus instead of FROM the virus now as corona-deaths. I've seen a graph of pneumonia deaths in the US basically stopping like it's the dow jones since February 2020. Thats not because people are no longer dying from pneumonia....

They will probably be enforced to facilitate social distancing like supermarkets do now. So there will probably be a few months with clubs opening for only 100 people max...then 500 and so on. So club personnel won't tell you to do social distancing but they will be obliged to give you the room to do so. Something like that. Temperature measuring only by entrance I guess, not in the venue or during the event itself...that would be ridiculous.

I know the current climate ain't a funny one, but just imagine if we got afterhours back as a 'consequence' of coronavirus... ?

There will be over reporting in hospitals but there are clearly very large numbers dying directly because of coronavirus. I've worked with older people for 25 years and the path of this condition is pretty distinct. Another factor is out of these a good proportion were already very near the end of life. With these though it's a horrible way to die, especially separated from loved ones.

My guess is there will be under reporting so far in the community, the care homes are likely to be badly hit

As I said the comparative deaths will give the truest picture

It used to be a fast ferry from Barcelona maybe 10 years ago, I used it twice, 4h to ibiza.
They stopped it quickly, it was not enough profitable for the company.
