I suggested moving the public holidays to a later date because millions of people won't get to appreciate them this weekend. when the worst of the health storm clears it would have given something for people to look fwd to and people really do need that lift right now. I feel depressed as fk right now partly because there is currently zilch to look forward to.
exactly thats what normal life is about, having something to look forward too...if you havent got that it is depressing and sad...

I am that guy with business interests and a big eye on the economy.

Right, so you understand that your employees might well feel differently to you as a vested business owner

Time off loses its shine unless you can enjoy it with everybody else

I have plenty of time at the moment. I would rather be working, trust me. Friday and Monday and the weekend between would normally be the best weekend of the year for me - and many others. This year, they're just going to be days like the last 2 weeks

I don’t have any employees.

it’s a red herring. Employees will get what they are entitled to, now or at a later date.

There is absolutely no chance of anymore public holidays or date changes. Many organisations are forcing staff to take annual leave during this time in order to be functional later. In my organisation we all have to take 8 days of our annual leave entitlement by the end of April. that is not an unusual practice.

For what it's worth, I also think it's incredibly unlikely they will be moved. But that doesn't negate from the fact that I'd like them to be

I’d like it to happen too but I am a pragmatist. It is a red herring, in the UK everyone will get what they are owed eventually

That's irrelevant though. Me and many others couldn't care less. Look, if somebody told you you had to work every Xmas and boxing day, but "don't worry, you get 2 observed days in February" would you go for it??

Equally, if your boss told you you had to work the nightshift but "don't worry, you can go to Amnesia when you finish at 6am" would you think it's the same thing?

It's the togetherness that's important, not the time off itself

That’s irrelevant though. Neither are the same as the availability of public holidays. You know the terms and conditions you sign up for when you sign the contract.

the last thing the economy needs is more time off.

folks will get the opportunity to socially engage in the future.

UAE Police have imposed a 5000AED fine for those leaving home without a valid permit and will post the picture of the person online. Bold move ?
Has there been much flouting of the lockdown there, Tiffany? Or is it mainly reflective of a more autocratic regime generally?

Most people have been really good here to be honest. Some caught on a bit late, but as soon as the actual law and fines were put into place people did what they were told. I think large fines and police involvement is exactly what’s needed for people to take notice.

also, the police have been very clear when residents have asked questions, such as dog walking and key workers... taken less than a few hours for an official response etc.
