The US unemployment figures are in this morning. Labor market in the US is now officially worse than in 2008/09. The three-week tally in job losses implies an unemployment rate of around 13% or 14%, surpassing the 10% peak reached in the wake of the last recession. Unfortunately, we only just got started... At this pace we will his 1930's Great Depression max levels 25% by July, if things remain closed.

(In the UK) I've just been down to the cemetery to have a word with mum and dad, and the darned thing's locked off. How can you pass CV on standing by a grave?? I'm in a low place as it is and that's just sent me further down. And as I have alluded to before, I've a garden and some decent space. There will be millions out there who have nothing but their flat, and they must be tearing their hair out.

Whilst these lockdowns are necessary (no argument there) the government should be giving us signs that things are starting to move. They're not, and that's why people are gathering in BBQ's and street parties against advice and using up police time.
That is extremely harsh, sorry to hear that mate. There has to be a bit of compassion as well, closing cemeteries feels wrong to me. If you can have supermarkets open and some public transport, then you can have a quiet solitary word at the cemetery...try and keep your chin up, this will end at some point, and maybe we will all be a bit kinder afterwards as well

Thanks all, what did you use to translate it (on mobile)?, my normal go-to google page translate seems stuffed!
I used to use Google translate, stick the URL in and it would translate.

Now the browser does it automatically, which is a real time saver. It seems to translate whatever is viewable on the page, scroll down and it changes from Spainish to English

Sorry to hear your feeling low mate. I too think the cemetarys should be open.

I also think it's a joke that the recycling centres are closed, yet off licences are open.

Fly tipping already becoming a small issue here.

It’s a shame that a realistic outlook and advice is perceived as negativity when the objective is to try and help people avoid being fleeced. But so be it. Won’t occur again.

Nobody has asked you not to contribute, nor would I want that. And as I mentioned, your posts have always had an air of negativity about them for as long as I remember, not limited to discussion about the pandemic. But if I've truly read that wrong, then my bad

My only exception to your posts was that you had numerous members on here making completely innocent wishes that you shoot down. Whether you intended too or not. People need hope.

You may be a totally analytical and conclusive guy. It may be comforting for you to foresee exactly what is going to happen, and i understand to a degree. But there's many others who are daydreamers, and lords knows the world needs some of that right now

If somebody tells you that moving the bank holidays would make them feel better, just believe them. There's literally no reason to have to argue otherwise

Anyway, you seem work-focused and keen to protect the economy as much as possible. It's easy to dismiss desires of going on holiday anytime soon as some expendable luxury, but it's that hope (amongst others) that is gonna help people get through this. Not to mention that in many places, including localised parts of the UK, tourism is the economy. Behind the travel agent and tour operators are people with incomes, mortgages, debts. They will regard their industry as importantly as you regard yours

I'd like to think after we've come out the other side, that our customers and community will look back at how the company has conducted itself with renewed trust. Compared to how other parts of the industry are handling things, I think we've been honest and transparent in difficult navigated waters. Not that I wish to take any credit for that, but it still makes me proud to represent a company with it's morality and empathy amongst its virtues

On a personal note, I've had friends who I've not spoken to in years contact me on social media asking for my advice on their holiday plans. They're only asking me because I'm affiliated with Spotlight and because Spotlight is a trusted source.

I am unqualified to give them advice in any aspect, nor should I have the burden. My replies have been to instil hope, but prepare for disappointment and without answering their questions in any way which could be considered misleading. Not an easy thing to do!

Delivering harsh truths is the unfortunate job of our governments and their airlines and accommodation providers

Spanish Pm told the measures will be extended into may ...

yes, but no details yet as to what measures will be active then. careful with the details.

as of now, the only thing certain is: lockdown until 26th april and after that, measures might get relaxed little by little.

It REALLY sucks that. But trouble is cemetaries are hotspots for all sorts of nefarious shenanigans and I am guessing they just can't be policed properly. But there is a very fine line between what is essential emotionally and what is essential physically for people. The former is very much being quashed whilst the latter is accommodated.

Faz ( german newspaper ) says ... Its a little cryptic : He think ? he will ask for extension the measures. Not decided as stivi says but the chance is big

You're quick to dismiss hope because it serves you no purpose personally. I'm just telling you, your mindset is not the same as everybody elses

ah I'm almost certain the lockdown will continue into may - just maybe with some tiny exceptions as in go for a walk or similar, as mentioned yesterday

No purpose? It’s called living in the real world. Managing hopes and expectations. I want to go to Ibiza as much as anyone. But sitting here getting my hopes up about it ain’t doing anyone any good. I’d rather we all have a job to keep or return to take it from there. At least I’m not the hypocrite seeking to cherry pick what you want from capitalist and socialist ideologies. Take it to pm if you want to continue this because this must be boring the hell out of everyone else.

As long as it is civilized, keep it public.
