Burning Man

Hey there Jonny! As Sirens has said, there is absolutely nothing for sale (except for coffee and ice)! You must be self-reliant, pack it in, pack it out! There is however an ABUNDANCE of recreational substances.....I would say in similar volumes to what you may find in Ibiza!! =) As far as airfare goes, your flight would probably be cheapest to San Francisco! You would then have about a 5 hour drive to the site! Booking airfare into Reno, Nevada (my hometown) is the closest International Airport! It is a city of close to 400,000 people and is only a 2 hour (at most) drive to the desert!!! Come a few days before the event so you can check out Lake Tahoe. It is a 45 minute drive from Reno, and is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world!! And of course....San Francisco is Amazing too if you've never been! If you have anymore questions, feel free to ask!! :)

Helen, are you getting excited? Getting things in order?? Coming up SOON....the man burns in less than 120 days! YEEEAAAAAAHHHH!!

Ha Ha.....I think I'm the only one left in the forums that is going this year. Happens every time! Oh well.....hope to see you guys out there next year! I'll have a review/pictures when I return from the desert! One month and counting.......

NO way!!

Burning Man isn't at all like Ibiza!!! It is like a big gay art fest in the desert! Mostly gay men from San francisco go there. The man woman ratio is also like 12 to 1 and that is being kind! There is no food or power or accomodation of any kind. You can run behind the water truck for a few seconds to shower and that's it! Prepare to cook during the day and freeze at night!!!! The "clubs are tents with **** sound systems and very small crowds! They also peter out early. Save your money if you are in Europe and go to Ibiza! I would spend 50 times the money to go to Ibiza. I will never go to Burning Man again. John

When was the last time you have been to Burning Man? It has changed quite a bit since you have been last, if that is how you describe the event! The majority of the population is Heterosexual, and the men to women ratio is not 12 to 1 like you might be familiar with. Things are shifting to a much younger, more evenly gendered scene. Everyone is entitled to their opionion however, and I'm sorry if you didn't have a good time in the desert!!

Comparing Burning Man to Ibiza is like comparing apples to oranges. If you want to go on a holiday on the beach with huge nightclubs, good music, sun, beautiful people, expensive drinks and lots of drugs, then Ibiza is definitely the spot for you. If you want to go to a place with AMAZING art, good electronic music, beautiful people, and lots of dirt in the middle of nowhere, Burning Man might rub you the right way! Both are phenomenal places.....both something to experience and form your own opinions about at least once in life! Have a great weekend!!

I hope everyone is well and enjoying your summers. Just wanted to make a final post before I head out to Burning Man (only 10 days!!!!!). This is a really good video that a guy made of last year's event. He did a great job on the production. I thought the people on this forum who plan to attend the event one day might enjoy this!

This year was the greatest year yet.....absolutely AMAZING! Hope everyone had a great week....will have pictures up soon. Pretty cool getting to watch the man burn TWICE!!!!
 
Here is a GREAT clip of one of the most amazing pieces of art I've ever seen out there! The explosion was regulated by NASA, as it was the largest controlled flame ever created. To get an idea of how big it is, look at the figures in front of it right after it explodes. They are about 40-50' high each!! Make sure to expand the video to "full screen mode" to get the best effect!
