Burning Man

ooh..i'd still really like to go...I just think I'd have to fly down there.. hire a car.. and find my way... hmnnn..I don't know..but I really really want to!!

Ummmm, if you are in Canada, it isn't NEARLY as difficult as you'd think! There are so many Canadians that go who offer ride shares! Just hitch a ride with somebody! A few months before the event, they post a rideshare bulletin on the Burning Man Website! Additionally, I always have room in my car for people who can make it to Reno before the start of the event! Let me know!

Holy Mother of God, Burning Man is fast approaching 8)

Mikey but mainly to the English gentry of this board.....

whats the last date I can buy a ticket, so that it can be sent to the UK??

Stephen did you hire a winnebago? You said it worked out cheaper than an Ibizan holiday.... How much should I prepare myself for??? Where did you fly from and to?

If I stay in a tent will it be easy to hire a car near there? Or will they know I am taking it to Burning Man? How much water should I bring? Jesus I can't imagine how much I will need for 1 week, oh and what about keeping it cold:eek: (and will it be hard to wash my hair)

That is all

Hey Helen...and to everyone flying from Overseas! There is are NO tickets that are mailed over to you internationally! You must purchase the tickets....print out a confirmation number, and pick your tickets up at the gate! Burning Man stopped mailing tickets overseas, because they were having problems. And the sooner you buy, Helen, the cheaper they will be! Right now, the price is $250.00 US and after those sell out they will go to $280.00 US. I would skip hiring a winnebago unless you are opposed to camping in a tent! Save yourself the money....Burning Man is a quick trip, and quite bearable in a tent! If you have to sleep in an RV, you will most likely meet someone who will let you crash in theirs! When you purchase your ticket, you will get a survival guide telling you exactly what to bring and how much of it you should bring. READ THAT THOUROUGHLY! Also, there are plenty of camping places and stores in Reno (where I live)!! It is a pretty large city (350,000) and you will find everything you need. You will want to bring money to buy a cheap bicyce while you are here....a bike is necessary to get around and enjoy Burning Man! Your best bet is to fly to San Francisco (cheap ticket from London I imagine) and rent a car and drive 3 1/2 hours to Reno! Then you can hitch a ride with someone from there out to the desert! Let me know if you need anything else?!! Getting Excited Helen!?? Let me know when you get your ticket!

Excellent photo of you Mikey :)

I hate to plan as well. I tend to make decisions only a few days before!!!

ha ha...unfortunately, Burning Man is not something you can plan at the last minute! Especially coming from overseas......

I'd decide at least 4 months before the start of the event, to give yourself a fair chance. Otherwise, you run out of time to get the stuff together that you'll need! If you're still going, let me know if I can be of any assistance in getting you prepared!!

Mike

Ive got a mate that does this now and then

I dont think Im ready for Burning Man yet!

The cold at night - heat in the mornings at Glasto almost do me in! The desert would push me over the edge :(

I must be getting old

A NOTE FROM THE ART GRANT COMMITTEE....

Many budgets were unrealistically high this year. We have a limited
budget of around $400,000 for the playa art grants, and typically, we
give around 30 grants. Asking for $100,000 effectively prices a project
out of consideration. We do not assume that if we fund a small part of
such a huge amount, the artist will fund the rest, or even reduce the
scale of the project...if a project's budget is significant but you're
not expecting the whole amount to come from Burning Man, be specific
about how much you're hoping to cover and how much you're prepared to
fundraise yourself. In addition, if you wait until the day of the
deadline, we are busy looking at hundreds of proposals and we cannot
sit
down with you to discuss partial funding. The time to consult with us
about that is long before the deadline. Please see our freshly updated
Grants Guidelines for more information on this process.

Man i need to go to this but unfortunately having already done so much travelling this year it's beyond my reach financially but ill definitely have to go to this in 2008, Agent mate what would be the best airport to fly into (would it be San Francisco?) Aer Lingus fly direct there from Dublin i think.

Agent- Is there food and alcohol a plenty on the site, etc, etc, and im assuming there is no shortage of party supplies, if you get what i mean;)

Cheers for the info anyway, maybe when i do come over ill catch you there.:)

Jonny you can't buy anything there, it is completely non commercial 8) so bring your own food, alcohol. As for party supplies, not sure about that?? Unless it is in liquid form ;)
