You make interesting points. I agree that as it stands it feels like a large % of crowd there are not Afterlife fans such. But still those that are there, even if only 30% or 40%, why aren't they creating the atmosphere like they would in Vista or elsewhere?
Is it simply the venue (ie lay out, visuals, sound) that doesn't favour it?
I remember last year for In The Dark, I was in middle of dance floor. Luciano played a cracking track. I started some whooping, hand clapping, waving hands.. my usual crap excited dancing and noticed everyone around me literally standing there like in a queue waiting for bus. I gave up soon after.
I went to see Orbital the other week, all us oldies (well 40+) were going mental clapping and cheering. When i looked a little closer round the room, there were young expressionless faces. So glad i don't give a toss when i`m dancingHad similar experience for Afterlife. Big track came on and it did not get the response I thought it would. It has to do with too many people in the club do not know or care about the music. Same thing happens in America. I still had a great time because I was with a group and really wasn’t paying to anyone outside us, but I noticed it.....never had that wow this place is going off feeling.
This is a good point. I think it’s a mix of Space, and it being Ushuaia’s club etc.
I think if you look back pre season, many people were open to giving Afterlife @ Hï a chance (even some of the biggest critics). I think many of us falsely believed that in the same way Pacha and Amnesia can one night have a Techno night and then a Guetta type party the next night, and there probably be 0.01% crowd cross-over.... then the same would be the case for Hï. But I suppose in hindsight, that was mad. It took Pacha, Amnesia Etc years to establish this. Plus having an EDM night at Ushuaia on a Thursday would always mean that a % of people would just go to Hï after midnight.
So it’s probably a combination of Space, Ushuaia, and many other factors.
And I’m guessing all this talk of Solomun, Marco etc going to Hï will be put to bed. You don’t spend years building up credibility to then throw it away.
If those line ups were at amnesia or dc10 for example I’d be all over it.
I’ve only been once to this night this season, but from that experience (which was musically good but crowd poor), and from countless tales from workers and other visitors, I sadly believe this night is beyond saving from a credibility perspective. They need to say Byë to Hï ASAP.
sad thing. the best techno line up party in ibiza this season turn out to be like this.
The funny thing is, outside this forum all I ever hear is how amazing this party is. And it continues to fill up the place so I dunno if it’s going anywhere anytime soon.
I really do think people are over exaggerating how bad it is! Like yeah it could be better from a venue/crowd point of view but the majority of people don't go to enough events to really know what an amazing vibe is. The music is always on point and if you've got good company with you I don't see why you wouldn't enjoy this night. I personally had a smashing time at the opening.

This is an interesting comment. We absolutely do ‘group-think’ here sometimes.
I’m sorry mate but in terms of numbers and income it will be considered a success. Whether or not that can be sustained next year is another matter. Will that crowd want to return? And whether TOU would want them to is another issue again. As @Chris L alludes to, they may have shafted themselves and created a longer term credibility problem by going to where the money was and attracting the wrong crowd for themselves. In many ways the club would be better off concentrating on having one type of music so it has an identity. I was gutted when I heard afterlife was going to Hii. I’m surprised it hasn’t proved a success with the line ups in all honesty. If those line ups were at amnesia or dc10 for example I’d be all over it.
Something I also noted this Sunday was how quiet Bora Bora and bossa was. Not many people out around the place and no vibe. Guess Not having Space Sundays has killed the vibe in bossa on a Sunday.
Afternoon all,
Has Afterlife ever sold out this summer? I’m over the 13th Sept, going to his Ushuaia for Beyer and co and may go to Afterlife later. Don’t necessarily want to get tickets now though, any advice?
