Who are you voting for ???

Dare I say neither of you are addressing what I said?

No one disputes that nukes are bad. And that we should have less of them. And if we can convince the North Koreans & Iranians to cease development then great, lets all stick them on the moon.

However if a mentalist government has some & we are active in piss ing them off then it is probably for the best if we have them to. History has left us where we are.

The chances of being hit in the Uk by Iran or Korea are slim mate. Iran can launch them about 2000k which as the map on the link below shows you is no where near us. Korea is even further away and isnt a threat to us.

Even Generals are behind the Lib Dems proposal to scrap them

I just dont see how the govenment can justify spending 100 Billion on something that will never be used when we are in so much debt as a country and the solders on the front line are under equipped.

On the updating issue - don't know alot but instinct is to agree completely. I'd think we just needed to be able get one to Teran & thats the mutually assured destruction bit sorted.

I think that the UK needs to accept a reduced role in the world and stop living in the past. Accept it isn't what it was. Like the way we're still so patronising towards foreigners, the little englanders everywhere, whether commenting on football, being tourist cocks or even just people at my office, automatically assuming that we've a divine right to be number 1 all the time. That attitude is holding us back. Why can't we just be comfortable as a middle-ranking nation like the scandinavians or the Dutch whose people do on the whole seem a lot more at ease with each other and chilled about lifestyles and their place in the world. But the political system just reinforces the class system and it is all just anachronistic bull$hit, which is why I think people are receptive to Clegg, because even though his politics are flaky and his team quite lightweight, voters are so desperate for something, anything new, not tied in with corrupt interests. And so it is quickly dawning on the others that a lot of people could well take the plunge and gamble on him, as a means of bringing in a fairer system, starting off with a form of PR, which might actually reflect the popular vote! Seems to me a weird election so far, as there is no obvious front runner, no obvious public enthusiam for anyone, only that people are pissed off with what we've got. There doesn't seem to be a running theme, and the media seem a bit lost too. Not sure I would want to bet on the final result... everything seems up in the air

Like a big fat salford gangster, once you have got to the top you can't just retire - to much bad blood!

That said, decision will be taken for us. US have no use for us, we are an irrelevance to China. Our ace was our reputation as a financial centre & business / rich person friendly tax regime.

Will do us good in the long term re our self image etc, however it will be a painfull adjustment.

It's all kicked off in Poplar, East London

am hearing 2 Tories in John Prescott masks this afternoon punched 2 Labour women activists and knocked them to the ground. Scotland Yard involved...

scuffle, pushed, people fell over and cried.

it's bad public relations for the Conservatives, a few hours before debate #2, which is supposed to make them look serious. Maybe I'm wrong but I'd say jokers running around in facemasks assaulting people don't really assist the cause...

the orchestrated press smear campaign against Clegg today was pretty breathtaking

and it will get a whole lot nastier still...

It was something to behold. They've definitely got the knives out.
The cautionary tale of a hung parliament in the Sun was icing on the cake!

you will get over zealous twats from all sides. easy to cry assault when in a bigish mob tho.

as for Clegg, it comes with the territory, rightly or wrongly.

what happened to clegg?

olly can you give me it in typical one liner fashion please.

he's a not-very-English, not-very-patriotic, euro gravy-train-riding hypocrite with a sideline in dodgy personal bank transactions (more disturbing revelations to follow)

watched debate #2 Clegg did well again although no killer punchlines. Duller debate than the first one. Brown was sharper but still looked jaded. Cameron as slimey as ever. The serious paper hacks gave it to Clegg (just), The Sun gave it to Cam, nobody gave it to Gord.

for pure cringe ENTERTAINMENT, this interview with the UKIP leader offered a lot more

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/benedictbrogan/100035827/ukips-manifesto-moment/

Also from the Telegraph:
"The Liberal Democrats continued to enjoy their extraordinary post-debate “bounce”, with 36 per cent of voters who watched the debate saying that they would back them on polling day, one per cent more than last week, pushing the Conservatives into second place with 35 per cent, down one point."

Interesting...

Brown came across a lot better than he did in the first one anyway. As you say, Cameron as slimey as ever. Clegg came across well but not as clear cut as he did in the first one.

Got to be said I'm rather disappointed there's been two debates, not one person in the crowd having a go at one of them over something and having to be ejected.

It makes me laugh when they have these polls after the debates on "who won"

The Tory Rupert Murdoch owned Sky News / You Gov/ The Sun says Cameron won....blah blah etc...

The only poll that matters is on May 6th.

exactly!!!

lets be honest here.... do we expect the liberal democrats to be running this county come May 7th???

I saw an interesting poll in the Independent, if not mistaken, in which something like 49% of respondents said they'd vote Lib Dem IF they thought they could win.

The ingrained mentality is that the 3rd party can't win. If Clegg & co. can overcome that, they've got a good chance of winning outright. Problem is, I doubt they can.
