They made a deal. It's pretty public knowledge. There was a meeting last year where Murdoch agreed to back the Tories and that's what they've done. Not just in the editorials and columns, but by slanting the news coverage.

I liked the Independent's adverts imploring people not to let Murdoch choose their MP for them. Even funnier was Murdoch Jr showing up at the Indy's office to rant about it!

what is also worrying is that the guardian/observer depend heavily on public sector advertising, which would no doubt be slashed. The Independent may be safe for now, but its toxic for advertisers...

all of which could mean pretty much the entire UK mainstream media singing from the same corporate hymnsheet

Yup. We've been here before - The Beeb and it reason for existence need protecting imho by all reasonable minded folk.

I'm a labour voter & have to say some of the Mirror's (read in a pub let me be clear) pro labour slant is equally laughable.

The times group combined makes a loss of around 85m per year (todays indy) - why? the influence it buys.

Not convinced it was a stitch up - apparantly blair had someone who's job it was to check for microphones! now that's thoroughness.

the best outcome we can hope for is Nick Clegg propping up someone like Alan Johnson, but even that looks unlikely now

seriously, the fact not one person on this forum or any other I've been on can give a single, clear, positive reason for voting Conservative, speaks volumes.

true but the difference in 97 was that there was no orchestrated campaign by Labour with The Sun or NOTW to 'get' Major. For the simple reason that the Cons had already imploded and Blair had the job pretty much sewn up from 94 onwards. So Murdoch jumping on the bandwagon didn't really influence the election. This time though, we are seeing a blatant closing of ranks by the rightwing to ensure their vested interests are protected. That support won't come for free, and you can only shudder at what Cameron has promised them in return..
 
Where i live is a marginal seat and the Sun is only 10p few miles up the road and its 25p. The Sun and The Murdoch corporation are C**TS of the highest order.

I just pray the british people dont let us down and that that slimey Cameron in. My heart says we will. The next generation is imortant for me as im now in my late 20's and the next 10 years or so i will be buying a house, having a family etc. A Tory Goverment is a Step Backwards. As i have said before Labour = Broken Britain Consrvatives = Smashed into millions of bits Britain.

Chewie i just wonder why would you vote conservative, you seem a normal guy and very sensible all apart from your political views that is ? What i want to know ( and im genuinly intrested) what makes them do it for you. This isnt a dig im just genuinly intrested why you follow them ( ie is it a historical,family tradition etc etc).
