If clubs don’t fully open; what clubs do you think will struggle financially for the future?

Assume Pacha, Destino, Ushuaia and Hi are all safe due to their financial backing. Privilege was already struggling, Amensia has had recent struggles with tax etc and Eden and Es Paradis also haven’t had fantastic years recently.Be interesting how this plays out.

Also what hotels will struggle If things don’t open again?

We can see it differently too ....... This can allow a renewal, a new beginning with innovative projects !
At 5 months before season begins, I can't imagine season 2021 will be a normal season. Barring a miracle, there will inevitably be restrictions this year for clubbing.

El divino ?
Dirk, like me, you're definitely sticked in the 90's ?

ok guys, long post warning...but here are a few thoughts of mine on the subject. I might be repeating myself in some points, but I feel I need to explain.

if the clubs can't open this summer, it would really mean ruin for ibiza - and this is why I am certain we will have a bit of nightlife this season.

not being able to open would result in lots of people NOT coming to the island. last year, lots of ibiza lovers came, but a lot of those people were also honest and said they would probably choose another destination if nightlife was banned for a second summer in a row. the consequences would really be ugly - for hotels, restaurants, shops, villa rentals, pretty much everything. and of course for the clubs too, but I'm not gonna go into guessing which clubs would be hit harder than the others, it's simply something I don't wanna discuss. right now we're really all in the same boat, more than ever, and this is also why I am sure there will be a joint effort to being able to open the clubs at some point this summer.

as mentioned previously, the 'how' and 'when', that's currently the uncertain bit. I personally don't think we will have full on clubbing without any restrictions this summer - as in I can't see 5000 people in amnesia, no masks, no social distancing, no nothing. I think we need to be realistic and put this idea on the back burner until 2022, unless vaccination really works better and quicker than I expect. I know things are looking really bad right now (as I had said elsewhere, for a long time I thought jan/feb 21 would be the worst period of the entire pandemic), but we mustn't forget we now have tools which will make things better. by springtime, in lots of european countries (as well as in the US etc) the vulnerable will be vaccinated and as life goes back outdoors, contagion will reduce again as it did last year.

also, keep in mind in various european countries we did see parties last summer, without having a vaccine and without having the now improved rapid tests. so I am certain we will see more this summer. I think may and probably june will be too early, but as mentioned before, the second bit of the summer, that's when I really think things will start to open up.

without naming any venues (because it actually doesn't matter), I know pretty much everyone is ready to do whatever to open this summer. yeah, maybe places have to start with a socially distanced formula in the beginning of the season and as the summer goes on and more people are vaccinated, rules will then get less strict. which could also mean that some venues only ever open when there is some dancefloor action. so from a socially distanced formula, over to a limited capacity dancefloor thing (and with masks - I truly don't believe we'll get rid of them before 2022 so better get comfy with that idea), the option of rapid testing people, there's literally far more options than last year.

in 2020 all the big venues accepted that it wasn't feasible to run big events. the approach for 2021 is different, not only from the clubs' point of view, but also politicians and business owners clearly see that while normalcy will probably only resume in 2022, for this summer, solutions will have to be found. a lot of the important voices (fauci in the US as well as lots of european medical heads) forsee normalcy to arrive by autumn and since this is too late for the ibiza season, compromise and solutions will have to be found. at this point I really cannot see the government banning the clubs another summer and them meeting with the clubs is a first step into the right direction. the fact the test event in barcelona worked so well is another good step.

resuming - it won't be a 'normal' season. but as I had said a few days ago, I think all the venues will open in some form at some point this summer.

Do you any thoughts on why would they would chose another destination (under the presumption that nightlife is banned in all other destinations)? Is it the price level? Or doesn't Ibiza have enough other/alternative activities on offer for typical partygoers? Or is it simply the wish to go to somewhere new?

this is a little off-topic so I try to keep it short. as everyone knows ibiza's price level is really high compared to lots of other destinations. but since we offer the unique nightlife (usually), people are willing to pay the price. without the nightlife, for a lot of people, something is simply missing on the island and thus people might try other destinations instead - actually a few forum regulars have done exactly that last summer.

Getting a bit older, and a smaller Ibiza actually appeals. I became less keen on coming to Ibiza around the time Ushuaia opened; it’s a symbol for me of most things wrong with the island. Appreciate people will lose their jobs and that’s never nice, but a less bloated island that doesn’t try to constantly fleece holidaymakers could be good. Up until covid it had become an island that tried to constantly make a year’s takings in 4 months or so, which is ridiculous. Perhaps this is a chance for a more sustainable island that’s less focused on endless growth. We can only dream!

In answer to the question, I reckon the covid cases will drop again in the summer and clubs will probably have confidence to reopen around July. But there’ll be an inevitable outbreak linked to a club that pushed capacity and it’ll be global news saying X club was negligent. That’ll be the end of the season. Things will be much better though by New Years with DC10 finally opening.

Yeah , dont need bad news . If they open the clubbing , it has to bei absolutely save.
No bad headlines from Ibiza

with the exception of a few bigger islands such as mallorca, cyprus and maybe crete, all islands in the mediterranean have a very short season only. and in the case of ibiza the season has actually gotten longer in the past decade.

But there’ll be an inevitable outbreak linked to a club that pushed capacity and it’ll be global news saying X club was negligent. That’ll be the end of the season. Things will be much better though by New Years with DC10 finally opening.

which is why I believe there will be lots of rapid testing involved this summer. yes, it's very likely there will be outbreaks here and there, it's inevitable, but since the vulnerable should be protected by then, it also shouldn't result in major damage anymore at some point. I truly think that once the elderly and vulnerable are vaccinated, society will have to start living with it up to a certain degree. covid won't completely go away. and having the global culture industry (arts, theatre, clubbing, concerts etc) totally on hold for another entire year is just unthinkable to me.

I’ll come to the island this summer or autumn if I’m allowed, but no way am I wearing a mask whilst clubbing.

I get it that you don't like the thought. I don't either. but I have a feeling the bloody masks might stay for a while - at least for situations where social distancing isn't possible such as on a dancefloor.

...I hope I'm wrong though and come mid summer they change the tone, but I fear they won't that quick.

there have been certain events that have happend within the last year where masks were only compulsory when visiting the bar/getting drinks or visiting the toilet....maybe this would be a compromise....or maybe thats wishful thinking
