What's going to happen to SPACE after 2016?

I agree the Space of old has gone forever but if you took Space of 2015 kept every single night and then changed the name of the club why would it have a different vibe?

If it does go all tits up with the edm crack I hope the other Ibiza clubs pull their finger out and put some good events on

but if you took Space of 2015 kept every single night and then changed the name of the club why would it have a different vibe?....

Couldn't agree more with the above statement, all this Ushuaia talk that they will ruin it blah blah, no one knows what they will do as yet, people are condemning them before they have even taken over.

... Have you heard of somebody called Carl Cox...?

But otherwise, fair comment. I think it is because it is Mastutes, and because of the Ushuaia connection and the VIP culture, and because of what he has turned Bossa into in general. Those are the main reasons people are pessimistic. Couple this with the fact that they hold Space so dearly to their heart and you can understand the worry.

Let's not forget that Ushuaia (at least in its previous incarnation) operated as an underground beach venue. Before the (s)wanky hotel was just an idea.

“It’s not that I’m walking away from the club,
because Pepe [Rosello],the owner of Space,
his contract is up at the club.
He’s going to be 80 years old and will officially be out.

It gets handed over to Ushuaïa Group across the road
and its manager Jan will be given the keys to run Space.

And once that happens, everything changes.

So I have no desire to stay in that club for any reason.

“They want me to stay from a business point of view –
it makes sense for them,
but it’s not what I want in my heart,” the 53-year-old said.

“And if I was going to stay, I’ll tell you now,
it’d only be because they were giving me one million euros to DJ.

I’d be like “Wooo!” every night, I’d get up for 90 minutes to mix and pocket €1 million playing all the records from Beatport, and there would be as many VIP tables as possible.
I’d be smiling all the way to the bank ..
.

But my heart tells me I will not ever do that –
because if Pepe’s not there, I am not there.

We grew up together,
we’ve been all the way through this together,

and we’re going to finish together.

And I’m quite happy about that,
because it means we leave the legacy of a club that made a difference.

We can walk away with that –
the legendary status of what used to happen at Space when we were there –
because no one else can emulate that,
it’s not possible.”

Carl Cox condemning the change is the reason I also have no hope it will
Be the same. Just looking at the trends why would we think they will do anything different than cater to rich VIPs?

Some of you on here have VIP culture on the brain, at Ushuaia it's mainly at the back and In Space it's rubbish, I don't see how that can bother any of you.

With King Carl you are talking about 12-16 nights a season, I've not seen any of other sessions there like The amazing Elrow or Glitterbox quoting Ushuiai will ruin it, it will never be the same....

Space has changed many times over the years, and as we are quoting people I like this one,

The talk is of Space ibiza closing, it's been on the cards for years, it's not the Space WE all loved, those afternoons on the Terrace with Brandon Block and Alex Petrides before the New boys came in and an era came to an end.

Monging out to Techno at 9am indoors to Reche and the boys.

It was THE PLACE that we all came together on a sunday afternoon, the one place all promoters, prs, DJs, actresses, dealers, fly boys and pretty wanted to be.

We grew up there, climbed over its walls, bought cheap beers and snuck em in, hid our cameras so those moments could be captured, tripped out, tripped in, fell in love and cheered the planes into land, watched in awe the Balearic masters and there mucky Camaraderie.

Those were the days my FRIENDS.

The Terrace family.

89 to 96

The only club I got butterflies scared o might not get in.

Breakfast was chemicals and beer and on the scooter to Space

You will never hear me moaning about nostalgia, or losing its magic, Cherish the past, but like everything...things move on .

You wouldn't. Wouldn't be a smart business move to knock your potential new business partners - whether you expect to be working with them in the immediate future, or much further down the line. Coxy is bowing out. He has nothing to lose in that respect.

Is he using it as a convenient excuse? Perhaps. He will soon be 54. He has nothing left to prove. And he is loyal to Pepe. Perfect time for him to go I think. Quit whilst your ahead.

I think you summed that up very nicely. Good post

"...
... According to sources within the Matutes Group, it is believed they feel a branch of the popular restaurant franchise is the one thing Ibiza is currently missing and have moved quickly to secure exclusivity rights on what will be Spain’s first Nandos.
...
“After much consideration it has been decided that the one thing Ibiza really needs is another casual dining restaurant and we feel that Space’s location in Playa d’en Bossa is the ideal spot to house it,” continued Ms. Berger. “We can’t wait to get onto the island and start serving up some cheeky meals to a whole new clientele.”...
