What's going to happen to SPACE after 2016?

I dunno...just can't see it happening. The character and vibe of a club takes years and years to develop over time. I say just do something new rather than try and recreate the same thing somewhere else. The Hacienda, The Paradise Garage...clubs in the same league as Space probably is, they are gone now but still exist as "brands" in so much as you still get at least one cd compilation every year and spin off events etc....the brand can exist without the club.

I just think that Space Ibiza can't be rebuilt in a new spot. Its sad to see it go yes, of course I don't want it to close and I'll be there next year to say goodbye...but I just don't get the "buy privilege/Eden and start again" shouts.

Space can move to the old Glory's site in Can Bufi. Lots of history.
Okay, the old building needs some work, but there is lots of room to develop, zona industrial, not that many neighbours and close to Eivissa.

^^^ This.

Sometimes parties themselves struggle to recapture their glory days when they change venues - Manumission anyone?!

How can you honestly expect an entire venue to up-sticks and relocate and have the same vibe? Impossible.

I'm personally pretty unsure about the future of ENTER. on the island. now that the season's over I can tell that for a while last winter it was very uncertain whether they'd even do enter ibiza 2015 and as far as I know, it was a very tight decision in the end.

said it before, will say it again, too many techno parties on the island. I could see that some time in the future some of the promoters / DJs could go back together and do a joint thing instead of everyone trying to do their own thing. but we'll see...

Can't remember if it was the Hawtin or Enter page on fb but I've definitely read a 'see you in 2016' on one of them

yeah seen this myself, but that honestly doesn't guarantee anything. on the other hand, as it'll be space's last year, they might do the same as team cox.

Would be great if they brought some of the old Space nights back or did a "flower power" style space party...obviously the hippy thing wouldn't work but some kind of "space classics" vibe would go down a treat.

I just think there will be no Space built , relocated or whatever. I think that will be that and Rosello will call it a day. Obviously just my opinion but hes not getting any younger and to try and build/relocate a new club and then build up everything to go with it will take lots of time ,money and effort.

Pretty much what i think as well... Goes the same for Coxy who i'm sure can't be arsed starting another residency from scratch at this point in his career... :(

The current Space building is still the same place that had the legendary terrace, where some of us had the best mornings, afternoons and evenings of our lives. While it may not be quite the same, it's still that place and we've instilled that meaning into people who perhaps didn't experience it. If it were to move, the legend doesn't move with it. It'll be a new place, without that history.

I'd say it's over.

Elrow should go back to Vista, I much preferred it there than Space, the early morning sunrises at Elrow were amazing, and I had not seen anything that crazy in Ibiza for quite some time! One time, people dressed up started absailing on down the windows on the outside in the morning pretending to clean the windows!!

Anyway, Space should call it day once the lease is over, hate to think of Ushuaia taking it over, as I really dont like the place, so dred to think what they will do to the Space building.

What Space closing will do is get places like Privilege to buck up their ideas, maybe some of the big nights from Space will move there (it worked when Cocoon did a few events there), so finally Priv can have some decent nights again, and maybe even start filling the main room every night!

I have not written here in years, but I have to have my say on this. I can't help but feel very, very sad to hear these news. I've debuted Ibiza in 2003 and just came back from the closing sessions 2 weeks ago for my 9th time. Next year I will celebrate my decade in Ibiza visits. I've seen the island change so much over the past 12 years, and while it still has its magic and unforgettable memories and I have loads of fun there, I'm starting to feel it is seriously changing for the worse. With corporate monsters like Ushuaia bringing Hardwell, Aoki and Afrojack Ibiza is becoming a commercial paradise. PDB used to be where it's at, but now it's becoming where the money is at. Seems like there are very little places respecting quality music nowadays, and as a 12 year veteran, it's just sad. Although Space has been a little weak, I was so happy to see Richie reviving it with such an edgy line like ENTER, and was expecting the club to resurface and retake the island with a storm. I will be so sad to walk down the Playa and not see Space, even if I don't get to visit it, just knowing it's there warms you up with a good feeling.

I miss the days of standing in line for Matinee at 10AM on Saturday, the arrival to We Love at 2PM, the lounge breaks at Premier Etage just before sunset, the 7PM "detox" (When you had the exit bracelet) and the second session from 11PM to dawn. The endless peaks at the main room with the legends and the unforgettable mornings at the terrace. Is this really going to be the end?

I will be very disappointed to see it merge with Privilege to a new venue, and any other new location will not create the same feeling ever again. I've had such great experiences there, which, without kidding, have probably contributed to shaping the person I am today. Space is an icon of Ibiza, and without it, I fear Ibiza will just become another trashy teen island.

How do you guys feel about this? Am I being too grim? I love this island so much... :(

Why is Pepe giving up the lease anyway? I'm sure there can be some arrangement in which Space can stay as it is today. We all thought it's going down 3 years ago and then Richie arrived with ENTER and showed us it still has it's magic. I just find it so hard to believe that Ibiza can be Ibiza without Space...

^^ Amnesia is an occasional guilty pleasure and I have a love-hate relationship with the place. Circoloco an occasional early party (because when it gets crowded by mid-evening it's time to go home - can't hack the crowds in there later on). I'd only go to Pacha with friends or as part of a date, never on my own. Sankeys for me is barely worth losing half of the next sunny balearic day for. However, Space has always been by far my favourite enduring club in Ibiza. Don't feel warmth to any of the other clubs on the island like I do to Space - have always felt completely welcome and at home there, alone, with friends, with new friends, sober, smashed or out of my tree. And it's presence in PDB is indeed the last palm tree standing after the "hurricane".

I think there are a load of us who will just stop including clubbing on our trip agendas for the island entirely when it goes. To be fair I'm nearly there already. I'm sure the new crew will find their own favourites among the remaining venues and lots of them like Ushuaia etc. - there just comes a time when what you loved isn't there any more and you have to come to terms with it. The changes over the years have been chipping away at it all anyway and if the new product doesn't float your boat then you basically need a new location or activity !

In a way it makes it easier because there's nothing really drawing you out late every night. So you can start to wind things up earlier, get more sleep and enjoy the rest of the island on your travels instead. Go home after a meal and an early boogie if you want somewhere small, instead of catching the sunrise from inside a closed-in Terrace. We've all had our share of those experiences and none of the changes underway can take those memories away.

I still like the rest of the island a great deal, and still have masses of new places to find and enjoy. Although the numbers swelling each year have been putting this under pressure too. So have soaring in-season accommodation/car hire/flight prices which mean there are more places vying with the island as viable alternatives.

Menorca is amazing and the beaches are far nicer than Ibiza's. Mallorca has a load of beach clubs and enough coastline to give variety over many trips. Illes d'Or are absolutely stunning and so laid back. Sardinia has new beach clubs popping up and waters to die for. Corsica has some of the most beautiful coastline imaginable. Even Zante is a brilliant choice for a non-clubbing based holiday if you get some wheels. Haven't started on Croatia, Sicily or any of the many other places on offer.

Choice and familiarity are the biggest draws of Ibiza for me - being able to jump in a car at the airport and get to pretty much any beach or venue without looking at a map, and knowing a few people when I arrive is nice too. I've started "moving on" in many ways, but still enjoy coming back. I'm going to miss Space that's for sure. But then I miss The End and I'll miss Berghain too if / when that eventually goes or changes. Nothing lasts forever, but unless you wind up with Alzheimers (god forbid), memories last as long as you do and in the end that's all we can really expect :).

My memories will always remain, period.

Regarding what you have written: I absolutely love Amnesia, but only for Music On or the club closing. And even then it's just the morning sessions, it's a different club come 6AM. I can't survive a Cocoon night there.

DC10: I've had the worse DC10 ever last year, and this year (28.9) it surprised the hell out of me, we arrived at 7PM and I left at 4AM, I NEVER leave DC10 so late, it was probably one of the best DC10's I've ever experienced. I can honestly say it took me back 9 years ago to the days when the terrace was booming at 4PM, even though it was dark.

I've never liked Pacha, but I go for Solomun only, it wasn't that good this year but was insane last year.

Sankeys and the rest, I can go either way. But if there's one place that will always build up the excitement for me, it's Space. No matter how many times I will stand in the queue to enter, my heart will always start beating a little faster and the rush will come. You know how your night will start when you go to Space but you never know how it's going to end. I have met endless cool people, girls and created experiences which will last me a lifetime in Space, and for that I am so grateful. One of my friends (Forum member as well: Eranski) even proposed to his wife at the sunset terrace in 2006. That place just gives you what you expect. Writing this now I am actually a little bummed that I chose Pacha over going to Luciano's Vegabundos closing this year.

All the places you mentioned above are gorgeous and may be worthy alternatives, but all it reminds me is Ross's choice from friends between July and Rachel. Even with all the pros, "She's not Rachel..."

If 2016 is indeed the end of Space, I will surely be there to witness the closing party and pay this monumental venue the immense respect it deserves. I will be the last to leave the dancefloor, and I may have a few tears in my eyes as it ends.

Without Space, I might enjoy what Ibiza has to offer in the future, but it will be a different Ibiza and it will mark the end of a golden era, which will probably never return.

I find comfort in the fact that in the past few years, it's actually the closing after parties which brought me to new heights, and that maybe even without Space, these will keep the good memories coming.

Obviously it's not going to happen but it would be nice if someone from Ushuaia PLC gave even the slightest bit of insight (without having to give away their evil plans for world domination) as to what plans they have for Space...

I mean, they're obviously reading all these comments that have been plastered all over the internet ever since the news became more well known...

thank you so much, nothing more to say:!:

yup, space closing next year is going to a beast and one not to miss 1000000%. we had been joking about how long it'll go for...3 days or so maybe? ;)

Can we assume first weekend in Oct? Been looking at flights and hotels and theres good deals at the minute so want to book!

tentatively I'd say yes, 2nd October, but absolutely no guarantee until the club itself confirms...

Not a chance they retire the name. As was already stated, Space is a brand. There are other Space clubs around the world.

I think if they started from scratch, they could build a club greater than the original. Build something amazing on the beach....with enough money, you could do something amazing. The current Space really didn't do much for me after the terrace died.
