I wonder what level of tourists would make most locals happy? I assume this was not an overnight phenomena, but was linked between the low-cost carriers on one hand and social media "keeping up with the Jones". The AirBnbs of the world are opportunistic parasites, but they did not cause the problem.

What year or period represented a good compromise?

I understand. I live on a small island where that is becoming a problem as well. However, this specific problem pre-dates the emergence of room sharing sites. An example is the ongoing discussion about re-making San Antonio. Thats a related concern (perhaps the perfect microcosm), and has been covered by this forum for the better part of the last ten years.

If the tourist numbers decline, those apartments have nobody to rent to and revert to residential units, because that would be more profitable.

What level of visitors is best? When was that optimal level reached in the past?
 
Less sunbeds is good. I remember going to calla Bassa beach a couple of years ago and that beach club had its sunbeds cover a lot of the area

last time i went to cala bassa, it was a private party (people were not allowed to hang there except guests:rolleyes:), i took a few pics (4€ P logo :D) and left right away, not a good way to enjoy the beach :lol:

just realised that many beach bars make limitation with rope laid on sand, around their bar, but i think it's illegal to do this as beach is public not private...(Nassau Tannit, Sa trinxa,El chiringuito es cavallet & so on... )

I wonder this with Blue Marlin. They try to make Cala Jondal their own, at least their side of the beach anyway
 
it was 2013, my trip to cala Bassa as hearing a lot of good about it..
BMI is an exception with all these beds , i met cool solo lady there :cool: (looks like lot of solo ladies,Model, business woman, looking for people to party with :D) laying on bed at Paradise afterparty, hangin with other girl help to make connection (escort girl or Dj star f***er :?: whatever , long story :lol: as better hang with this kind of girl met Paradise closing, than solo :p,no people on whatsapp group showed up :rolleyes: , i guess, all recovering in bed :spank: )
