WHAT IS IT LIKE IN WINTER?

At present, the only direct flights over winter from anywhere in the UK is from London City Airport and at 9am (besides around 1pm on a Sunday) so not very helpful unless you live in London!

I fly back to Ibiza later this week and have had to go via Palma Mallorca from Gatwick with BA as the EasyJet flights via Barcelona & Madrid were expensive with carry on hand luggage.

Would be my intention to travel down the day before and stay in a 5-star hotel (OK, Travelodge then) near the airport and simply walk in the day of the flight. Do the same on return, an extra night @ a cheap hotel + advance rail ticket would be cheaper than flying back, getting to Euston finding the flight delay means I miss my advance train and have to buy a walk-on single which will probably wipe my savings!

If I was at Euston and wanted to catch a train right now to Manchester and it wasn't pre-booked, it would be £193. To be fair that's peak hours, drops to £73 after 1930, which would just about get me home. Still more than Travelodge + advanced ticket. Dontcha just lurve the UK???

my daughter regularly gets booked on peak trains from Warrington or Manchester to Euston and they are in excess of £200 return. Fortunately she’s not paying as it’s company nonsense but someone further down the line( no pun intended)/end user is footing that bill.
