oh and yeah I got stung by a jellyfish earlier this week. when I take people on hikes I'm always the first one in the water (equipped with a diving mask and a small net) and when you don't see any jellyfish from the coast and then jump in to do the proper jellyfish check there's always a bit of risk involved, so over the course of the summer I get my fair share of stings. but I've gotten used to them and it's not such a big deal honestly.
I actually love jellyfish - well, all but the tiny deadly ones and as long as they're not so prolific you can't kick them away. The advantage of colder waters you rarely enter without a wetsuit is your risk of stings is much lower ... guess there has to be one advantage !
I swam with this beauty last week, on the same day I played hide and seek with an old friend - a very discreet solitary seal I've been privileged to share the same stretch of coast with for few a few years now :
