Haha, just about recovered to review. I was mainly there for work as I had a lot of meetings with artists and to see them play around Berlin.
Loved Kater Blau, which I hadn't been to before, and would definitely go back. It would be perfect in summer. KEENE were amazing and would really like to see them play in Ibiza as they'd be perfect. Lovely guys too. This was definitely my highlight of an excellent set -
Went to Urban Spree to see the wonderful Jennifer Touch do a live set at Curses's album launch. Wanted to stay for Curses & Local Suicide but needed to sleep & freshen up before an epic Sunday. Jennifer was brilliant live - so much emotion and atmosphere in a packed, smoky venue. Especially enjoyed hearing Chemistry & Attic live -

So, after 5-6 hours, woke up at 7am feeling pretty good, showered, had some coffee and a light breakfast (crisps and the leftover falafel wrap from the previous night!), then headed to Watergate for just before 8am. The look the bouncer on the door gave us was priceless, as though "WTF are you doing coming here at this time?! Have you been knocked back from Berghain?!" Once he realised we were on the guestlist and to see artists I work with (& completely sober!) he was fine and it was a really lovely vibe. Although amusing we were probably the only sober people and everyone else had clearly been partying for several hours! Matthias Meyer & Budakid were doing a B2B which was outstanding - love both of them and really exciting to see Matthias's residency at Akasha this summer. Hopefully Budakid joins him as their B2B was brilliant. It was really synthy (my cup of tea!) but still perfect post sunrise, early morning vibes just by the Spree. Obviously not photos or videos but I managed to do some sneaky Shazams as their set was just brilliant from start to finish. These were my two highlights (of many)

Then on to the big house! Got to Berghain around 11.45am for Theo Kottis's 12pm-4pm set at Panorama Bar. The line-up was so good that week that I would happily have spent the whole time there (Sally C was on before, Leon Vyncehall afterwards). Theo was incredible and probably the best atmosphere I've enjoyed at Panorama Bar (Hector Oaks downstairs in Berghain was not my cup of tea at all and was pretty painful, or maybe I was just too sober / ket free?!). Everyone was smiling, happy, friendly...reminded me of early Ibiza parties. I don't think I've danced so much during a set and barely sat down. A good thing as the queues for the bars / toilets (!!!) were pretty annoying. Theo really enjoyed it too and had a big smile on his face for the last two hours. Really hope to see him in Ibiza this summer. Every track was excellent and the set flowed really well - no boring or dull moments. Lots of people we spoke to who were regulars said it was one of their favourite sets there. This was probably my highlight:
Speaking of Matisa, we then left Berghain (my husband wanted to stay!) for Matisa at ELSE. I like ELSE but it is more of a summer / warm weather (dry!) venue and it was pretty cold. It was actually snowing in the queue for Berghain at lunchtime! So everyone was outdoors in big jackets. As Dixon was on just after Matisa, it was pretty busy. I love Matisa and can't wait to see her at DC10 this summer but the vibe seemed a bit flat, given the weather and it felt a though everyone was there for Dixon. We were also feeling knackered by this time and a certain football game (Man City v Liverpool) had started, so we left to go back to the hotel, watch that, freshen up...then return to Berghain for 9pm.
Whilst we were guestlist, we were very lucky with the lack of queues as apparently even the guest list was 3 hours this weekend! It was still very busy as Ben Klock was playing Berghain although we headed to Panorama Bar for Virginia, then Cinthie. Not sure if it was tiredness but much preferred the music & vibe for Theo Kottis but it was still great. Stayed until 2am and as is usually the case, the crowd reduced by midnight.
A brilliant trip and excited to return again!
